~ Kate Plus Eight ~

When I read that article for the first time, almost two weeks ago, I could only laugh that someone who is an editor for a paper that writes about Kate just happened to show up for R & R at the very same place that Kate and her group were. Darn, what a coincidence!

That she is the editor for the paper that writes about her, but she came just to relax, and not write about her is laughable. If she was hoping to unplug for the first time in years, why go someplace where someone her paper writes about, is filming? Could it have been because she intended to 'gasp' write about her LOL? The paper she is an editor for has never made a secret of how they feel about Kate..surely she knew Kate would be filming there. And all she had to say about Kate, and still Kate posed with her, after she pretended she liked her. tsk tsk.

That article was just ridiculous. The author went there to spy on Kate - she tells us explicitly that she knew they were there before she arrived because her parents were e-mailing her their every move. Just be upfront about it - it would have made the entire article more credible. Yes, her parents probably "conveniently" live next door to the house they rented - but from her story it is obvious the writer did NOTHING but watch them the entire time - from trips to the beach to shucking corn on the front porch. You can't tell me that the beach is so small she couldn't have moved further down and got away from the circus if she wanted to.

I thought it was interesting about the pictures - mostly because she said she took some - but then didn't post them. How incriminating can they be? Surely if they showed what she claimed (Steve and Kate all over each other) she would have printed them with the story.

None of it sounded very unbiased, basically.

Anybody see Kate at the Emmys? :rotfl2:

I didn't watch the Emmys, but saw a picture of her as "worst dressed." Which I didn't understand. I thought she was dressed nicely and the dress fit her body well. It was appropriate. Yes, it wasn't a crazy Oscar de la Renta gown or a bright blue Versace like some of the others, but if she had shown up in that she would have been slammed for trying to dress like a star. I thought it was funny that a lot of people commented, "Why is she at the Emmys?" Um, she was on two HIGHLY rated shows this past year? Doesn't that earn her a ticket?

It was interesting to see them on a "regular" trip - not with VIP access to everything - just walking around Chinatown. I thought it was typical Kate when they decided to sit at 2 tables in the restaurant and she declared "Okay, 3 kids come sit with Mommy - or 2" Out of 8? Wouldn't it be easier to just divvy them up in 4?
I assume they had VIP for the bus.

I think they did end up dividing them..but I too thought that was funny. Maybe she thought some of the crew or Steve and the other guy that was there, were going to sit with her. I thought it was great that the kids had the experience (and were willing) of trying all sorts of types of food. I was also surprised that Kate tried different foods. In the past, I don't think she would have, I think she would have walked out. Did anyone catch the name of the place? I think we'll try to find it, I like the way they come around with different foods.

I watched last night...thought Kate's outfits were awful. I find it a little startling that she is comfortable with her whole top open like that. I couldn't imagine being comfortable especially while taking care of my children. The shoes were unbelievable. And then for her to complain that her legs hurt, imagine how her 6 year olds felt.
I also thought she took the backseat a lot and let the other woman (Jamie?) just be left with them ie. the boat, the restaurant, the stores. She just seemed like the kids were there, not like she was responsible for them.

The only time I saw her leave them, was to drive the boat, and I'm sure Jamie wasn't the only person there with the kids. At times I saw Steve and the other guy that often replaces Steve on the trip. I didn't see her leave them in the stores, restaurants, etc.

As for her legs hurting, the shoes didn't help, I'm sure. My kids always had more energy than me in the heat, and I didn't hear the kids complaining, other than saying they were hot. My kids would have said it too, especially when we used to go to Disney in the summer. They seemed very happy (except for Mady, at times, as usual). I thought she was spending lots of time with the kids, talking with them, laughing with them.

Read in the news today that TLC has signed on a new family of sextuplets - Latino, I believe - that will focus on how they manage their family within a "budget"..

I think they have been signed on for at least 8 episodes - if not more (maybe to see if they develop a following?)..

Could be that TLC is finding that people aren't that interested in Kate Plus Eight anymore - or they never know when to watch it because they're doing such a poor job of advertising this time around..:confused3

Kate definitely seems to be fading from the limelight.. As long as she's saving all that money she's making now though (along with what she should have been saving all along), I think she'll be fine - financially.. "Ego" wise is an entirely different matter..

I think all of these shows with families of multiples start off with them living on a budget...then the get the show & their budget grows. In the beginning J&K+8 were living in a small house, shopping at Sam's club, she was working and so was he to make ends meet....Then the show came along and things change. I think it would be pretty hard to keep up the budget living theme after a while.

As for Kate's clothes and shoes...come to Long Island, she is dressed frumpy considering what I see in the mall on most moms :confused3 Our last PTA meeting had more heels and cleavage then dancing with the stars

:rotfl2: Maybe there will be a Housewives of PA or Housewives of Long Island next.

I've really lost interest in the show, but still love the kids. My only two comments are:

*that I kind of chuckled about with all the history Kate has about the kids being messy, that she would literally shove melting ice cream cones in the kids' faces.

*Kate's gum chewing is really annoying me!

But I do love that she takes them places to see new things and keeps on rolling with them~

Well, TLC takes them places. They don't go unless it is being filmed. This NY trip is almost a year late. :confused3

Anyone heard anything about Twisted Kate? should be airing soon...

She flew them out to Disneyland and that wasn't taped. I have no idea how many trips they take that I don't know about. Right now it appears there is only one person still following them about so who knows what we miss. I hope it stays that way. I would go on those great vacations too, if someone offered to pay for it!

That would be The Housewives of Lawn-Guy-Land :rotfl:
Not too exciting though, all it would show is a bunch of moms dressed like they are going to a club-driving around in Huge SUV's to the bagel store, then to get their nails done and their hair straightened. An occassional visit to the mall and the 10,000 after school activities their children are enrolled in could be a special episode!

Well really what person in their right mind wouldn't take their kids all of those places with TLC paying for it. Really nothing special about her for doing that. Yes it is difficult I am sure, but she has help. And before anyone says anything, I know she admits she has help. I am just saying that anyone I know would take those trips. I would love an all expense paid trip to NYC or The Carolina's, those house she rents can go up to about $10,000 per week.

I highly doubt that she takes them on too many vacations without TLC paying for it. that would be way too expensive. And I believe that the only reason she took them to DL was because she was in LA and she probably felt guilty for being away from them so much. NOt saying that she shouldn't have done DWTS, but just that like any mom, she probably felt guilty so she took them to DL.

maybe you misunderstood me. I am not saying she actually left them. Just that she wasn't the main one in charge IMHO. To me it seemed like Jamie was in charge of the kids.
Maybe a better way to explain it is: If I go out with my children and my mom comes I am still the one who is more hands on with my kids. I don't just assume that my mom will care for my kids and I have theday off.
Kate seemed to just assume that Jamie was okay with the eight kids when she wandered off.

What I meant by I like that Kate takes the kids places (yes, we all know TLC takes them, pays, they have help, etc.) is that I enjoy watching the show more when they are going places doing things rather than watching her feed them lunch and collecting chicken eggs from home. :)

It has been widely reported that Jimmy Fallon asked her to be a part of the opening, it was not that she earned a ticket, like nominees or main-stream actors etc.

And I already said I would take those trips :thumbsup2. She goes on so many with TLC, she doesn't have to worry about taking other trips. The Carolina's, Alaska, NYC..those are great trips.
She would have been away from the kids for a long time when doing DWTS that week, so I'm sure she did feel bad to not be seeing them, and so brought them to DL. I don't know if it was guilt. I hope it was because she missed them. Or maybe a bit of both.

Kate seemed to just assume that Jamie was okay with the eight kids when she wandered off.
I thought I had read that she pays Jamie, so maybe that's why she thought it was OK to assume Jamie wouldn't mind watching them. But I don't know that for sure. I only saw her leave them the one time, and of course for the ice cream. Other than that, she seemed pretty hands on. I'd bet at no time was Jamie by herself with the kids. At different times both Steve and the other guy was there, as well as the camera crew.

I agree with this exactly. She interacted with her kids, but she didn't seem (from the portions that I watched last night) to be "mothering" them. She was more concerned with pretending to drive the boat for the camera than seeing her kids' faces when they saw the Statue of Liberty. And she shouted down, "Oh, you made sure to get a picture of them, right?"

Not that that is particularly a new side of Kate. Jon used to bathe and dress the kids completely with her performing more of an administrator's responsibilities.

I used to go on vacations as an aide to help a family with a disabled daughter. Although I was the one hired to help her, at no time did I feel like the mom or dad weren't doing their usual job as parents. It was an extra pair of hands, not a substitute pair of hands.
