Kardashians are here at Disneyland eating lunch at Big Thunder Ranch

Serious question - who or what is a Kardashian?

I'm old and apparently 'out of it' when it comes to pop culture - I used to be 'in it', and then mysteriously one day, that all changed (probably about the same time that I came to the realization that the time I go to bed, used to be the time that I was starting to get ready to go out).

I like my news, sports and Food Network on tv, and radio is pretty much limited to NPR and podcasts - and the name Kardashian isn't ringing any bells for me. Are they some sort of pop group like the Spice Girls?

I love that you don't know who they are! The 3 girls (all in their 20's/30's) are the daughters of one of OJ Simson's lawyers (who has since passed away). They were unknown socialites until the oldest, Kim, reached some level of fame when a sex tape between her & some rapper (I think) was released. Their mom, Kris, capitalized on the instant name recognition in the media and they got their own reality show on the E! Network. Their step-dad is Bruce Jenner (not sure if he is officially back to Bruce or not). So they are pretty much famous for nothing. Oh, now the oldest, Jim is married to rapper Kanye. The youngest, Khloe, is married to former LA Lakers basketball player Lamar Odom. Aren't you glad you asked? Now i'll throw up since I seem to know entirely too much about this family.

I LOVE the fact that you have no idea who they are. Honestly, they're pretty much famous for being rich and famous. They have a lot of money. That about sums it up. I've been at DL a couple of times when they've been there. Their entourage is not as bad as some stars who have been (like some rapper/gangster thing that was there a few months ago--ugh!), but they aren't super down-to-earth either and they definitely pay for the VIP seating (no blankets on Main St. for them!).

Anyway, I get being excited and stuff if you don't have a lot of experience running into "stars", but they're human, too. As someone who has grown up on the outskirts of L.A. most of my life, I try to keep in mind that they are all trying to live their lives. Sure, they chose to be famous, but did they choose to have paparazzi and fans following them around? If they were my kids, I wouldn't be thrilled about people taking pictures of them without permission. Even though they aren't normal, they're trying to do something normal with their family. It's not horrible that pictures were taken because it does happen, but just think of how you would have felt. I was at DL once and tourists were taking pictures of my twins without asking simply because they are twins and the tourists weren't used to seeing two babies the same age. We aren't famous, but the small groups/crowds we attracted that day were overwhelming. With my minor experiences with this, I can only imagine it's a thousand times worse for people who are actually semi-famous, whether they "asked for it" or not.

Ok that is awesome because I can totally relate. There are tons of pictures my mom has of my sister and I when we were kids (4&6) with random Japanese tourists in them. At Disneyland amd the airport. Apparently they weren't used to seeing children like us and would just ask my mom to take pictures with us to show their friends and she was like ok I guess.
So now we go through old trip photos and there's just a bunch of random Japanese people, Tigger, eeyore, mickey, and us.

I disagree at the base of it all, at least. Their fame started because of Robert Kardashian, who was an attorney for OJ Simpson as the other poster said. In '91 the mom divorced him and a month later married the former Bruce Jenner (former Olympian if you're not familiar with him, either). In '94 the OJ trial happened, and then RK died in the early 2000s. RJ and KK had the first 4 Kardashian kids, and then the two Jenner daughters are sort of lumped in with them b/c of the mom (though they aren't Kardashians).

I actually find it all to be interesting, thinking of the groups of young people growing up in the LA area. There was a recent picture released of Gaby Hoffman, Kim Kardashian, and Nicole Richie at Michael Jackson's "Neverland", when they were an average of about 11 years old. Bizarre. I don't know, I find the background to stuff like that very interesting. :) I find people that I actually know interesting, too, and love to know their stories! :)

I can relate too...in 2014 my then-3-year-old-daughter was Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween (homemade costume that was KILLER). We brought it with us to Disneyland in November of the same year and got pictures of her with Sally (see my profile pic). We had tons of people taking her picture both while walking around DL as well as when we did our meet & greet with Jack & Sally. It didn't bother me.
