Kansas DVC-ers?

HI....

Thought I'd say Welcome Home to y'all!:)

Do we count if we both graduated from KU (him undergrad, me mba) and were living in Overland Park when we bought our DVC?

That was in 1993. We moved to Atlanta in 1994 and had to add on, being that much closer we get there more than we initially thought we would...then we had another child and had to add on again!;)

Welcome home! Good to see fellow Kansan's on here. Not sure about the tax question but I know we DIDN'T write anything off... at least I don't remember if we did.

We did use the flight to Sanford. The direct flight is awesome but the return flight leaves REALLY early and Sanford is a LONG way from WDW that early in the morning. My suggestion is to stay the final night near the airport. Its a pretty good deal usually and with kids you can't beat a direct flight. Both Airtran and Allegiant have been a blessing to KS DVC members.

Glad you brought this thread back up. I'd love to see others from the area post. We are from Wichita and have been members for a little over 3 years and we love it. Getting ready for a DCL cruise in a little over two months.

I always wonder when I'm in a parking lot and see a Disney antenna topper, or something like that, if they are fellow DVC-ers.

Hi KS'ns! Olathe here! Seeing as how in my church alone, I've met two other families that own DVC (OKW and BWV) AND the new nurse in my school is an SSR and OKW owner AND the brother of my hairstylist is a VWL owner, then I'd say there's a lot of us out there! Woo-hoo!

As for flights, we're hooked on Midwest Airlines non-stop out of MCI. It leaves a little late in the AM for my taste (9:10) but it's assigned, two across, extra wide seating. We used to swear by Southwest but got fed up w/the cattle call and their prices are now no better than anybody else's. Although they do have a "wheels-up" flight at 6:55 AM which is more to my liking.... :-) That's about it for non-stop to MCO. There's no way I'm on a flight with small children with a lay-over......:sad2:

Of course! Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk!

Definitely still Jayhawks! We even interrupted our WDW stay over the Holidays to drive down for the Orange Bowl!;) We wouldn't leave the world for too many reasons....

Two of our three sons were born in OP...well, maybe Lenexa, and we still have family/friends there so we visit often. They are Jayhawk fans now, but that will probably change as they are in high school and starting to look at colleges a bit closer to Atlanta! (In state would be nice!);)

We live in Lenexa.

For our last trip (Jan 25 - Feb 3) we ended up flying Midwest Air for $125/person direct. We usually fly MWA or SWA because of the direct flights. It is usually worth it.

We are in the process of buying right now! Just waiting on the final paperwork...
I can hardly wait!

We're in Riley (18 miles NW of Manhattan).

Well, I booked a Southwest flight out of MCI.

Any tips about this airport that I should know?

I checked out the parking info. I am wondering how convenient those shuttles to the teminals are??? I am hoping to park in the circle area. We have a 7:50am flight, do you think that our chances of getting one of these are good?

Also, do you think it is better to use the valet at BWV, or self-park?

Other than the fact that the Airport seems closer to Omaha than Kansas City. Good luck with your flights and your trip.

Not from KS, we live on the other side;) But, I wanted to chime in about MCI parking. We found the parking plaza at kci to be very convenient, and you can't hardly beat the price....7.80/day. The parking plaza has valet parking, and they shuttle you back & forth to the terminal...not need to drag your bags across the parking lots. When you arrive at their facility, they help unload your bags and load them into the shuttle and you hand them your keys and tell them when you plan to to return.....off you go. They drop you off at the terminal you fly out of. Then when you return, you call them after claiming your luggage and they show up in a matter of minutes. Way better than 12/day circle parking imo.

I have friends that also swear by the parking spot....it runs 8.50/day. But, I've not used them.

Good luck! And have a great trip! And WELCOME HOME!!!

Add another one to Kansas City, KS. Bought in March 2008. Will be going May 28th as a DVC'er for the first time.

Just bumping this up.

We almost always use the parking spot, but I have a free membership that gives me a discount plus points for future parking.

That's what we ended up doing, it was great!

:thumbsup2

Something I just found out about MCI to MCO last week. Airtran has discontinued some if not all of the direct flights. We were booked on one for our trip near thanksgiving but got an email changing our flights. I called and they let me know there was no direct flight available. So they changed our flight for us to leave from home, Wichita. Originally the KC flight was over 1100.00 cheaper for the 6 of us than flying Airtran from Wichita. Since they cancelled the direct flight they let us fly from home for the lower price. YEAH. Sometimes things work out for the best I guess. Still no direct flight but no drive to KC either.

We had the same thing happen in 2006 with Delta.

So anyone thinking about adding on points at any of the upcoming properties when they are released?

Wow, I would love to own at the new Contemporary villas if that really becomes a DVC and the points aren't "to the moon and back."
