When I was at the AK back in 2002 I seem to remember the CM's handing out rain ponchos to anyone that wanted to wear one on the ride. Do they still do that? Of course I didn't use one and proceeded to get thoroughly soaked.

I've never seen this and we've been going since 2010. My daughter always wears one because she hates getting wet.

I don't remember CMs just handing them out. There is a kiosk (or was - I haven't been there since 2007) near the line entrance where they sell them, but I doubt they're giving them away.

Not that I know of. I've never heard of them handing out free ponchos (I know you can buy them if you want to).

But I heard that AK installed a special section of lockers just outside Kali that are free for one or two hours; you can store your stuff while you ride so it won't get wet. It's not an all-day locker like you can rent at the front of the park, but it's nice to be able to stash a backpack if you're riding, without being charged.

Ridden this plenty times over the past 6 years and never been offered a complimentary poncho. Some folk wear them but they either have their own or they have none so my bet is they aren't giving them away. You can buy them in the parks for about $8. Frankly, we did KRR once with a poncho and the water still managed to pour through the gaps leaving us soaked through. Getting drenched is just part of the ride. It's no biggie if the weather is warm but if it's cold, it may be better to save KRR to the end of the day, poncho or no poncho.

First I've heard of this. Are they new?

Nope not as of Dec they weren't or the Dec before that or back as far as I can remember.

You can but them but they don't hand them out. FWIW though DH wore a poncho and was just as soaked as the rest of us.

after getting off I have handed our dollar tree ponchos to a CM to give to anyone that wanted one.

Never seen that happen, I actually call those Chicken Covers...LOL We carry all our $$,phones ect in zip lock baggies to stay dry. That's our only cheat...:)

Our friends got so wet on KRR as the first ride of the day that they left to change clothes and returned later. So, ride just before you leave the park.

been going since the park opened in 1998 and have never seen they give them out.
There are lockers to keep your things in

We never wear ponchos......more fun to get wet

Since 1998 for us too and never seen ponchos handed out.

It's possible that they had them for sale. I was thinking that they were offered to use only on the ride and had to give them back when you exited. But then it's been so long since I've been my memory could be quite faulty.

Hey Meriweather!

Also don't wear white clothing to the park if you plan on going on this ride. DW found out what happens if you do, you become the emperor with new cloths :rotfl2:

Someone posted that you need a credit card to get your stuff out? Is this true? How do the 'free' lockers work at Kali?

I saw that thread and it was someone who wasn't able to get their stuff out before the 2 hour free time limit ended (I don't recall what the reason was, though.) Assuming they work the same as the ones at Grizzly River Run at DCA, you get a receipt with a PIN (it's all done electronically) and you use the PIN to open the locker.
