When we were at Animal Kingdom last month, Kali had a new policy of making everyone wear shoes for the entire ride (instead of taking them off and storing them). The CMS said that it was a new Policy that they were trying out for a few days...does anyone know if this is a permanent change? I hate walking around in wet shoes!

Out of all the times we have been to WDW we never rode Kali River Rapids until our trip a week ago because we didn't want to walk around wet all day.

This trip we decided we would ride it, but we made it the last ride before we were to head back to the resort. Well, my cousin had told me that they made you wear shoes now. We took plastic bags with us & wrapped them around anyone that was wearing sneakers so they wouldn't get too wet. They worked pretty good.

Anyway, I'm not sure if that's a permanent rule or not, but you can try the plastic bags - we tied them tight & they kept the shoes pretty dry. Of course, you have to look like a goofball walking through the line with plastic bags on your feel but oh well. ;)

We knew about the new rule, and work sandals that day. Our feet were dry in no time! I also packed a large green trash bag in my pouch, and right before we got on, everyone put their cameras, hats and pouches in the bag. We tied it in a knot and just left it at our feet. Everything (except us) stayed dry and we tossed the bag when we were finished!

I found by having my feet up on the ring and not in the bottom of the raft that they stayed pretty dry without resorting to bags or other devices

DW did the same thing and had dry feet also

Thanks

Second for the feet-on-bar strategy. The problem is remembering to keep them up there.

We were just there for Easter and noticed this new rule. My DH and I didn't mind, since we were both wearing sandals, but two people in our raft decided to take their tennis shoes off anyway.

A few of us spoke up about the rule, but the adult male said, "Too late!"

As we got back, they were trying to put their shoes on quickly, but a CM "caught" them and was very stern. She said, "When you are in Mickey's house, you must follow Mickey's rules!" She then proceeded to tell them they weren't allowed back on the ride that day.

I was very proud of the CM. These people didn't talk back to her and they seemed somewhat embarrassed.

For the rest of the trip, when my DH and I saw people acting unDisneylike, we would say, "When you are in Mickey's house, you must follow Mickey's rules!" :D

That's the beauty of sports sandals; rules like this don't give you any grief at all. If you have never worn them, I would advise giving them a try, especially for children, who will take every chance they get to splash in puddles and streams.

Nike's sport sandals are well-made and affordably priced, and I've seen them on sale all over the place just lately; 3 of the circulars in today's paper here had them featured for < $40.

NotUrsula,
Would these be the Nike Straprunners by any chance? These are my favorite! Great for walking AND keeping your feet dry! What circulars were they in?

I like Sport Sandals but I find on the concrete etc. surfaces at WDW (and other places) they do not offer enough protection and support and my feet get sore. Have tried Teva, Ecco and Nike to no luck so far. So I wear my New Balance and fast dry socks

Thanks
Jason

WE have a Nike Outlet. My dh bought a pair of Nike water shoes for $10.00, my son is sooo jealous of them:)

Since we carry a good sized backpack into the parks, I put in the cheap-o 99 cent tongs for everyone. We throw the sneakers in the backpack and use the garbage bag idea someone else mentioned to hold the backpack. Then put the sneakers back on.

Sneakers with comfy socks are my only "no discussion!" rule I have for my family. Sore feet and blisters can truly ruin a trip!

Good idea with the tongs and garbage bag, but I have gotten more blisters with sneakers and socks than with a good pair of sandals!
