any one been here.:confused3 we have just gotten an II trade for next summer and I am wondering if this was a good pick.

Congrats on your Hawaii trade. I want to know as well. We are planning on trading out in the future and I am in research mode. popcorn::

We did not stay there but the area is beautiful. Be sure to snorkel at the Black Rock at the Sheraton. I am sooooo jealous!

We stayed there in 2002, had two 1 BR units that we got through an independent exchange company. I assume you got a 1 BR as they have few 2 BR units. They have a mini kitchen, certainly more than a DVC studio but less than a full DVC kitchen. Last I was there the doors from the LR to BR were the louvered type so not as much privacy as some would prefer. Given we had two teen, we felt the 2 units was much better and the extra cost to us was very minimal, about $400 a unit. The resort is nice but not on the same par as the Marriott or Westin. Be aware that unit assignments are very negative to exchangers. You can request ocean view but expect parking lot view, I think they call it mountain view. We had a great view of the Star market and strip Mall across the street. But it wasn't a big deal as we were prepared for this and our costs were low enough as to not to be reasonable to sweat it. When we checked in we were offered an upgrade at $70 per unit per night (2002 $$$) which we declined.

The location is not on the main part of Kaanapali Beach, you have to go out to the main road, past the Westin timeshare and back down a small road. Not a problem really but does create some parking and driving issues and you can't walk down to Whalers Village from there but you can't from the Westin either.

They did have a fairly cheap buffet package that was per room but since we were one family in 2 rooms, they gave it to us for the price of one room. It was pretty good but got old after a day or two. I don't know if things have changed. For those that are TUG members or redweeks members, they may have more and more recent info. trip advisors likewise has info but it is always suspect in my book.

Thanks for the info. I just found out that the pool will be refurbished from April 20th to June 20th, we are going June 5th so I guess that may be why the trade worked for us. We have had a request in since last March. The pool thing is kind of upsetting but we can’t do anything about it now I guess.

Bummer since the pool is one of the big plusses of the resort for many. If it's make or break, II will likely let you out but you need to talk to DVC to make sure you'll get your money back. You could also call and see if they can get you the Marriott or Westin same time.

you are on Kanapali beach.... who cares about the pool! Have a great time!
