Justins Wish trip :) Pre trip report...

Yeah for the Big Give those washclothes are adorable.

Love the NBC cake it is fabulous.

Yes the Big Give is crazy amazing! The cloths are even more cute in person! Justin keeps imitating Mickey's surprised look from them!:lovestruc
Do I have to let the kids actually use them?

Thanks:hug: The NBC cake came together so well. Though I still maintain fondant tastes gross and I made everyone peel it off and just eat the cake with the buttercream. I'd like to make marshmallow fondant to try sometime, it's supposed to be yummy.

LOVE LOVE LOVE all the pictures!!! The smiles are priceless! You can see how much Justin adores his siblings and cousins!

I have tried the marshmallow fondant and I think it is better than the regular fondant. My dh and dd, however, love regular fondant because they think it tastes like Necco wafers. :confused3 I still prefer butter cream.

Don't be fooled they all have moments of sibling rivalry(even with the cousins!) But yest they all love each other very much

Necco wafers like the candy? Huh... not sure that convinces me to try it again...;)

Have you tried Swiss Meringue Buttercream yet? It's not too sweet but it is rich & has an amazing satiny texture and I used it on J's last birthday Cake (cupcake-cones) it looked so cool!

I've Been "lurking" in the bacground! What a beautiful family you have. The " big Gives" are wonderful.

:wave2:
Stopping by to say hello. I've been reading along and enjoying the pics but haven't had much time to post. I've had some projects I had to work on this weekend and then I have school stuff the next couple of days -- my kids go to a small private school and 1st thru 6th grade are doing Wizard of Oz so I'm helping with a dress rehearsal on Monday and then have to come in on Tuesday to get dd ready. Here's my two polar opposite children for you: DS (4th grade) is doing sound b/c he hates performing. DD (2nd grade) is Dorothy! (A couple of the major characters are sharing roles b/c there are 25 kids, so she plays Dorothy in the second half and a 6th grader plays Dorothy for the first half). DD wanted to be Toto :rotfl2: -- they are using a stuffed animal for Toto. Once Tuesday is over and done I have another project to do for a former BG child and then the week after that I work 3 half days and one full day -- ugh! Too much on my plate. So I am reading along still -- just can't post every day.

Love the NBC cake and your sister's wedding photo :) Love the cupcake cones too! I think you need to post photos of ALL your kid's birthday parties!

I have only ever used fondant on a cake for ds and just for the putting green. I really need to try to make my own one time b/c it tastes nasty form the package. I don't have a pic of that cake on photobucket. I think this is the only cake I have on photobucket but it was one of my favorites:

I made it as a favor for a friend of mine. She was dying of breast cancer (which had then spread to her lungs). She adopted her dd from China at the age of two and it was for the girl's 5th birthday. My friend wasn't even sure she'd be at the party, but most fortunately she was there that day. The party was at the Botanical Gardens, hence the Caterpillar and Flower.

(Hope you don't mind me posting the pic here -- I don't mean to invade your ptr -- just with the talent you have I figured you'd enjoy looking at cake photos).

Yes, they claim that the packaged fondant tastes like the candy Necco wafers. I think that they are crazy.:rotfl2:

The Swiss meringue buttercream looks delicious! I am going to have to find a recipe.:)

Andrea, I'm glad you found the time to post today!

Wizard of OZ that is great! The costumes must be so cute, let us know how the show goes. Lol yes kids sure can be polar opposites! That is great your Daughter is a Dorothy she must be pleased and your son doing sound at grade 4 that is so cool I think you need to be in jr high before they will let you touch the equipment. (The boys school is K-8)

No worries about posting here, No one has yelled at me yet for going totally off topic while we wait for the TR to start! You were right I do love looking at cakes. Thanks for sharing!!!! Sorry to hear about your friend, though I'm glad to hear she saw her Daughters 5th birthday.

As I go through the time warp of pictures I will try to include as many birthdays as I find along the way but here are 3 of my Faves today cause you asked:

Hayden had a Phineas & Ferb party before the show gained popularity so we had a hard time finding party supplies so we went with a Dookleberry cake.
DSCF1676.jpg

Dookleberry cake is one of Heinz Doofenshmirtz's favorite kinds of birthday cake. He would always have one in his birthday parties.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz explains to Perry the Platypus that ever since he was young, he loved Dookleberry Cake. But Dookleberry bats will swarm anyone with this cake if uncovered. (thus the bats in mid Aug.)

My nephew's pirate party cake:

And last for today Justin's fruit pizza from his pizza party:

The hardest thing is as of Justins 5th birthday our household has gone dye free so to add colour you have to be more creative! (the pirate cake above pre-dates the dye free...
Ok just 2 more

Callie's 3rd birthday(first one with us, and my first chance to do a girl party) The cupcakes are lemon with a raspberry buttercream & chocolate fudge cakes with a strawberry cream cheese buttercream

And my MIL's 60th cakes cause I couldn't just pick one there is a firecracker apple cake with Caramel-chilie glaze a Coconut cake with Coconut Cream Cheese Buttercream, an modern take on a Black Forrest cake with a whipped Ganache Frosting and a Lemon Icebox cake:

OMG Melissa my mouth is drooling over those cakes, so awesome and sound SO yummy!!

I second what Lisa says -- the cakes look awesome! I also love how you do your party tables. You must be a very good preplanner! Your ballerina banner is OUTSTANDING!!!

Lol Thank you Lisa & Andrea for the cake compliments , now if you just lived closer so I could feed you some! I love feeding people.

Andrea, I love the banner too, it's now hanging in her room The ballerina were her 3 year old pictures and I built the party around the pic.'s the pink and black theme. I want to make a fabric banner in the future I love the way they look! Can you imagine the photo shoots!!

This year she had already asked for a puppy party and her 4 year old photo shoot was build around the theme so we could use the pic's for invites, but yes I do start planning well in advance.

Onwards in the photo journey, is everyone sure that this isn't boring? I could stop...?

Hi Melissa. Are you planning on doing a countdown calendar? Did you see the countdown chain from Jayden's PTR?

Great new set of photos. I LOVE all the pictures -- please keep them coming! I could just picture Callie being Alice with Mad Hatter and Rabbit -- you may need to do a repeat of that set in the future!

Maybe I'll have to make Callie's next birthday a tea party! Hayden would likely fit the Mad Hatter costume now!

and since you asked so nicely,

So I bought some material...I am inspired to sew by all of the amazing talented people here on the Dis, and also because I'd like to contribute back to the BG's and need to find my "thing" cause cakes just don't travel that well. That being said I am a hobbyist and will likely change my mind a zillion times or at least every give I do...

But I bought these materials in mind for Miss C and possibly a few friends kids or maybe baby J (C's lil' sis) If we ever get another visit, but that's another story.

So I'm hoping by the end of July to have at least a couple things made, but no promises!

PS: The x-ray results: Justin does have sinutitus and is on a round of amoxil.

PPS: I am mailing thank you cards to Mommy2MRB & DizniDi today
Please let me know when they arrive if you don't mind, I have no idea how long they will take
