Justine & Adam 4-21-12 SBP/LSS/SCP--Updated 9/30

Justine,

All of the updates look awesome. Love the sand photo. That is such a great idea.

Any word from Dara yet? **Fingers crossed** for you.

I wish we were coming down a few days earlier than we are, so I could come take a peek. :)

I LOVE you're idea for a guest book!! I think it'll look great! :goodvibes

We had Steve as our DJ too and you wont be disappointed! I wanted him to DJ at our at home reception too but seeing as that was in the UK I thought it would probably be a little expensive to fly him over for the night! :rotfl:

Thanks! We (I) went back and forth a lot on the guestbook, lol. And it's so nice to hear good things about the DJ!

I've been to Discovery Cove it is amazing it was quite a few years ago now but I remember it very fondly your guests will love that it's such a beautiful and peaceful place.

I am hoping it will make for a great memory. Our best friends live in Philly and Tampa so we just don't get to see them nearly as often as I would like. Plus my parents haven't been on a real vacation in years. It was important to us to show them a good time and shoudl our appreciation for all they do for us.

I love that photo with your names in the sand! We are doing some mad libs and some other books but I kind of want one of these just for us!

I love the stamp and looking forward to seeing your invites! That is awesome you are practicing to do your own calligraphy!

I think after I put a general "who should we request" here on the boards, I ended up requesting DJ Steve. I haven't heard back yet if we've gotten him and my wedding is two weeks after yours, so I can't wait to see what you think of him if we get him too!!

Discovery Cove sounds great! We did a dolphin swim in Mexico on a cruise a few years back and it was definitely "once in a lifetime" and we still talk about it! Your BP will love it! :lovestruc

Good luck with your phone call Wednesday! I have one then too but with Floral! Sending PD your way! :wizard:

I saw that your new floral BEO is much better! I LOVE the new direction you're going with the beachy vibe. I think its going to be gorgeous. Also, that sand photo was only around $30, so very economical. Also, she prints them on metallic paper which lends it a really cool appearance.

I had never heard of thrilled for you before! That seems so awesome!

I think I first saw it on Wedding Bee ages ago and bookmarked it. I still haven't decided if I am going to do it or not.

What a unique idea for ur guest book :thumbsup2 Im glad ur happy with ur DJ, I HOPE HE ROCKS & gets everybody up and DANCING :dancer:

YES! I love to dance and I really want a party...I truly believe the DJ can make or break a party.

I love your guest book idea. Mostly because since I have the top hat and ears I just want to take this picture. I want to go to a beach and set this whole picture up how awesome would that be. Or make a sand castle and put my bride and groom vinylmations on the castle and take a picture.

thanks for the inspiration

Teresa

Oh, I think a sandcastle with the vinylmations would be adorable. I think its something you could totally DIY if you lived near a beach. Arkansas is short on beaches, lol.

Just read through your PJ and love alot of your ideas! I'm definitely going to check out the website where you got your flowers, they are so gorgeous! We are also having problems picking a guest book, and the one I fell in love with on Etsy was $150, which I thought was kind of ridiculous. I think I am going to do cardstock with our monogram on it, and let folks put completed ones in a big glass vase, and then scrapbook them later with some wedding pics. Thanks for all your great ideas, look forward to seeing more!:thumbsup2

Thanks! I do love my flowers. I also love that they will stay pretty for a looooong time. I like your "guestbook" idea too.

I haven't even contacted Dara yet. I need to do that. I've been a lazy bride lately, lol. I do plan on writing a post this weekend though! I wish you were coming down earlier too!

It is has been a while since I updated. I had a phone conference with my planner a week or so ago. It went really well. We were eligible for the 10% discount for using both Disney photography and video—yay!

We switched our the prereception menu from cheese to sliced fruit to save about $300. We officially cut the landau carriage—no biggie. The more I thought about it, I realized it would probably be really hard for my Dad to get in and out of it and if he can’t ride in it, I don’t want to. Pamela said we could just buy our own swizzle sticks and cocktail piks and she would make sure they got to the bartender. I know this doesn’t seem important, but there’s nothing we like better than a boat drink and they just aren’t the same without a little flair.
cocktails.jpg

We officially switched the scallop dish over to one with a risotto. One snag, and I think it must have just been a miscommunication, is that I thought Pamela had said we could tentatively hold a spot around the World Showcase and as long as no one else booked an event there, Adam and I could use it so we could get fireworks pics after the wedding. Well, I guess this wasn’t possible and so she said if fireworks pics were a must have for me, which they are, that we needed to book a dessert party. On top of that, the only venue left for our party size was the Morocco Oasis. She said she would help us keep the menu price down so we would come in right at or around the food and beverage minimum. So we went ahead and booked it. I’m actually kind of excited about it. Our reception ends at 8:30, so the timing is perfect and I think it will be a nice cap to evening. Before this I really had no interest in an Illuminations DP, which is why we chose Sago Cay for our welcome party—but since this way we will be assured fireworks pics I’m on board.

Oh, and the pastry chef told us it would be $1,000, yes that is a one followed by three zeroes, to mold our pets out of white chocolate. They were actually great about giving us some other options and once they did this quick mock up to sort of show what they could do with the pictures, we decided to go that way:
Chewiescuba.jpg

They made sure to emphasize that this was just a quick mock up by the chef to show kind of what they had in mind. They will make it so that it looks like the pets are in and around the coral, etc. We also requested two specific sea creatures for the cake, a turtle and an octopus and they said those would be no problem. I’m sure it will turn out fine, I don’t think I have ever seen them do a cake I thought was a hot mess.

So, that was most of what we went over in the phone call. It went really well and now we are just waiting for our updated BEO.

I have done some other stuff too. I booked a rental for a minivan. I thought it would be good to have the extra room and since 5 of us (my parents and grandmother, plus Adam and I) are flying down together, it made sense to get something will lots of room. We got a good rate too through Budget with a code my mom found. I was trying to Priceline one, but with no luck.

Today I bought Adam and I two APs to Sea World so we could use the AP discount to book our Discovery Cove day. The saving paid for the Aps a couple of times over—def worth it. I don’t know if we will actually make it over to Sea World, but it doesn’t really matter. We booked the dolphins swim for 5 people and just the day resort package for the remaining people. When the time gets closer I think I will also book a cabana so we have a central hang out. I can’t wait.

Also, my MOH asked about throwing me a shower, but with everyone so spread out, I didn’t think it would really work. Instead she is going to organize a joint “Last Fling before the Ring” outing for Adam and I on the Thursday night before the wedding. I think this will be lots of fun and it will give us a chance to hang out with friends that we just don’t get to see as often as we would like. I told her to make it surprise, but nothing too crazy since the next day is the rehearsal, etc. I don’t want to wake up with tiger in the room and no memory a la The Hangover.

Hmm…What else? We have paid our minimum expenditure and they were great about letting us make multiple charges to our Disney Visa so we could get the rewards points. Just an FYI—if you plan to do this, allow for some extra time, because it seems to take a week for the charge to go from pending to be able to be paid, and then another day or so for the payment post. We had to make 3 separate payments since our limit is 7k. Not a big deal and they haven’t said anything about it, but it did put us over the deadline for the minimum payment. On the upside that’s $200 for us to use towards our stay at the Boardwalk!

Oh and Bethie—I did ask about character outfits and our assistant sent us a pic of what Donald and Daisy would be wearing and Donald was in a lovely tux and Daisy was wearing this beauty:

princessdaisy.jpg

Uh, I don’t think so. I politely asked if she had other options and she told me to send a pic of what I had in mind, so I sent them a pic from PrincessShea’s wedding where she was wear a lovely yellow frock which should match Donald and Mickey nicely. This was on Friday afternoon so I haven’t heard back yet. Honestly, if she can’t wear something halfway normal I may ditch her and invite Minnie instead, lol.

Alright, I think that is it. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Back to the grind tomorrow…:surfweb: ETA: Wow, sorry Chewie is like Godzilla sized. I did resize it in photobucket...oh well.

That pic of your dog made me giggle, and I think that picture of Daisy looks...not *quite* as elegant as one might have expected.

Hey,

You know me by a different site (same wedding date). I almost bought your photomat/guestbook, but we were thinking of using it for our save the dates! Just love it obviously.

Also, I am so jealous by how much your planner is actually helping! I wish mine was as good as yours.

LOL--yeah, I was kind of surprised when I saw Donald looking all nice and normal and then Daisy looked like she was ready for Halloween.

Oh, that would've made cute save the dates. I hope your planner kicks it into gear! Thanks for stopping by :thumbsup2

Our invitations arrived on Thursday in this big box:

I waited (not so) patiently until Adam got home so we could open them. All of the components came wrapped in lovely ribbon:

We sat down and got to business after dinner. I had originally wanted them in the mail on Feb. 1st, but we didn't get them until the 2nd, so I settled for getting them out on Saturday. We have an RSVP date of March 1st. Adam addressed all of the envelopes and I did the rest (stamping our return address on the back, numbering the RSVP cards, putting stamps on the RSVP envelopes (we used the Pixar stamps) and then assembling them, and licking the envelopes--which surprisingly weren't that bad. We finished all of this up on Friday night (75 or so in total) and we got to the post office bright and early (8:30 am) Saturday morning to mail them.

We waited to put the stamps on until they weighed the invitations one more time--I wanted to make sure I had bought the right stamps. We did, so we put all the stamps on and sent them on their way!!

We used a company called Momental Designs and they were really great to work with. The invitations were really important to us. We wanted something that was a truly a reflection of "us." I had a phone conference initially with the main designer and we kind of talked through what I was envisioning...sort of a storybook cover that showed us and our pets, and then the inside was more geared towards our bright, tropical theme. I think they really nailed it. Since there was so much color in the artwork we decided to keep the rest of the paper rather neutral so it still felt like a wedding invitation as opposed to a normal party. We did a couple of rounds of back and forth and came up with the final design in a timely fashion.

I know people always say that they just end up in the trash (and that's mainly true), but I love them, Adam loves them, and I think it was worth the price. Here's some more pics:

Outside folder that holds the components:

Main invitation--you can kind of see here that they handpaint on shimmery accents:

Adam's addressing...he did a really good job, but it did take him a bit to find his stride. I still liked that handwriting better than labels.

Now I can't wait to start getting cards back....

Lol, I thought it was her Halloween costume. I mean, the girl has more style than that. You should've seen the poor couple the sent me a pic of. Donald was in his formal attire and then there was Daisy in her full Halloween glory. I now have everyone showing up in the yellow formal wear--much better!

Well, I don't have many pictures to spice up this post, but I do have my first dress fitting scheduled for next Saturday! I'm glad I called when I did because apparently they just announced the dates for the local proms, so appointments are filling up fast. I'm still on the fence about wearing my second dress. I think I may just keep my ceremony gown on, I really love it. I'm sure I can sell the other one for about what I paid for it since I got such a bargain. Anyone interested in a size 10 Maggie Sottero Cassia?? :rotfl:

We are also officially having two dessert parties. Pam and Jessica have been great about helping us stick closely to the minimum for the one after the reception. I wish we could switch out of Morocco, but whatev--everywhere else is full. We are having these adorable cupcakes and fruit punch:
upcakes.jpg

We've received 32.8% of our RSVPs back (yes, I just calculated that). We gave people til March 1st, so hopefully they start rolling in. I am thinking that if there are no surprises we will end up with right around 30 guests, which will be nice. I might even get to add in that 4th character....

Oh, and our cake price came back right around $1,200. Yeah, that's expensive, but the cake is really important to Adam and he's not getting a groom's cake so I plan to eat a lot of cake in the days after the wedding :rotfl:

This is the week when I will finally contact DFAP. I keep putting it off, but I need to do it soon since we are almost at 2 months!!!!!!! Oh, and we're starting to tan tomorrow too.

I finally broke down and ordered one of the personalized hangers and some fun swizzle sticks, etc and had them sent to my MOH in Tampa. I figured that would save us having to mail or schlep them down later.

Adam went and got measured for his tux. We choose the Calvin Klein one although we thought about the new Vera Wang:
larger_image.jpg

Along with a dark purple vest and tie. I think it will look lovely. :lovestruc

I think that's pretty much everything. I contacted on Etsy seller about making cards with illustrations of our pets notifying people that we've made a donation in their honor in lieu of favors. We chose Paws 4 Vets. We read an article in Men's Health about them and since we love pets and we both have military people in our families, we thought it was a good choice:
http://www.helpkyria.com/

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and a fun President's Day--love those government holidays!

Um, those cupcakes are ADORABLE! I wish I had seen them before my wedding: I would have had those.

Whew. $1200 is an expensive cake, but it will be worth it.

Everything is coming together so beautifully. :lovestruc

Those cupcakes are brilliant!! So so cute, everyone is going to love them!

That suit is going to be a real stunner too, good choice.

I love the idea of doing a donation! Hope to see pics of the cards you had made on Etsy!

I'm still debating about a fun hanger myself. Its such a cute idea!

Plans are coming along very nicely, I'm staying tuned!

Two DPs? I'm pretty sure that's every DFTW bride's dream.

Lol, well we didn't really plan for two--it just happened.

Aw, thanks!

The cupcakes are super cute and a nice way to stick to the minimum. The lady on Etsy is doing a custom listing for us and hopefully the turnaround time won't be too long. I will def post them when I get them! I dithered about the hanger for months before finally breaking down and getting one. I decided I would put some coat hooks in my office and use my hanger to hang up my coat.
