Just Wondering

I was reading a thread over on the Community Board, and they were talking about how Disney is suffering right now from people changing their plans about their trips. In light of this, I was wondering if this may encourage them to offer some better deals to those of us in Canada in order to get us to go there. I realize that the reason behind this slump is the tragic events of last week, and I don't want to sound like I'm trying to gain something from this, (in fact, we don't even have a trip in the works right now) but I was just curious. Disney is a business after all, and they have to figure out how to improve things somehow. Maybe this would be one way.

That would be really nice if they did do something like that.

I was just thinking the same thing. A couple of threads were talking about WDW at 30 and 40 % capacity, in park attendance and in hotel rooms booked. You would have to think Disney will be trying many different incentives, not just to Canadians, to get people back in the parks and their resorts. Things were kind of slumping there before the WTC attack and now with so many people cancelling or postponing trips, I hope Disney does SOMETHING to get the parks full again. I hate the thought of cutbacks at WDW.

DH just said the same thing last night. There are so many people afraid to travel anywhere that tourism is going to have to give some incentives to intice people into the vacation mode. I just read a post that said that many cancellations have been made at Disney since the attack.

We are already starting to see discounts on air travel, some hotel chains and rental cars. All of the travel industry is trying to get people to vacation again.

I just received a survey on e-mail from Orlando. They had some questions about our plans to travel to Florida and whether we had cancelled or postponed our plans. The also asked if incentives were offered (ie $ at par), whether that would affect our plans. So obviously, Orlando and area are very concerned over tourism, especially in the next 6 months. Most of the questions related to the going there in the next 6 months and air travel.

I was just reading this news item on Cogeco's news link.

WDW is starting to feel the pinch. I only hope that they choose to increase availability by reducing fees and offering discounts. To lay off and reduce the hours for the CMs and operating hours for the parks only makes the entire EXPENSIVE expedition more difficult to justify. We have been to WDW three times in the last eleven years and would love to go more often but the cost is becoming prohibitive.

Since the article indicates that this was happening back in the spring I hope that they don't use the current situation as a way of burying their heads in the sand and simply reduce hours. I find it interesting that Sea World which regularly offers discounts and Canadian dollars at par deals does not appear to be hurting in the same way.

Maybe its time Disney takes a good look around.
