Hi, my name is Debbie, and I have a new grandson that is a 1 year old. His Mom and Aunt and Uncle are going to WDW at the end of July beginning of August. They have a time share there. :flower:

My question is how do I know how many points that I need to insure that my girls, husbands and futures grandchildren can go to WDW and spend 10 days there, from September 5 - Spetember 15.

I am new to all of this. :confused3 I have always wanted to go to WDW but that never happened. Now my hubby and I have decided to refinance our house so we can do the things we always wanted to.

Who should I talk to and what should I do. We will have about $10,000 to invest.

One more question, when my daughter and grandson go at the end of July beginning of August, how do they get the right tickests, Patty my daugter is a single mom and wants to experiance all of the sites and night life also early in and e-nights. What ticket should she buy?

THANKS, :goodvibes

Debbie

Welcome to the dis!!!

I am somewhat confused by your listing. Since you used the word "invest", I am assuming you want to buy a timeshare and not just rent points for a "one time" trip. Since you also said "future" grandchildren...this reaffirms my "yearly" theory. If I am wrong, please let me know.

So, in the party there will be your two daugters, your grandson and your daughters' husband, right? That would be a total of 4 people now, with the "possibility" of 6.

You have a few options. You could get 2 studios (I am thinking privacy here). Or, you could get a two bedroom. So, let's look at the cost figures for each example above. Since money seems to be an issue, I am going to choose Old Key West as our example. It has the lowest point structure of any WDW resort, and resales are plentiful and reasonable. The following examples are also based on you wanting to go "yearly".

Here's the breakdown:

1 studio at OKW for Sept 5-15, 2005 is 104 pts. Multiply by two and you get 208 pts.

A two bedrm at OKW for the same dates is 284 pts.

So, depending on the accomodations you want to make for them, you would need 208-284 points. That is based on this calendar year's points. Since Fri and Sat nites are more expensive, those point values will change some from year to year.

Unfortunately, a 230 pt contract will probably run you about $16,000+. That is a bit more than what you wanted to spend.

So...here's some options:
1) Buy a "less expensive" timeshare offsite (check these out very carefully, though)
2) Buy enough points for an "every other year" trip. You could easily get a 130 pt contract for around $10,000. DVC allows you to "bank" your points into the next year, so every other year your family could have 260 points...plenty of points for two studios (you really could probably get away with a 120 pt. contract). It is not the "every year" option...but, remember...once the kids start in school, taking 10 days off in Sept (the CHEAPEST month) might not be possible. So, your family might have to pick another week to go...which would most likely cost even MORE money.

There is a really great site called www.tagrel.com where a very nice person has posted the DVC points charts. You could go to this site, get a really good idea of how many points you would need, and then go to "The Timeshare Store" webpage (they are the ones who sponsor this board), and see how much it would cost you.

By the way....I should've said it earlier....but, what a thoughtful thing you are doing!!!! You sound like wonderful parents. I hope your sweet daughters appreciate you fully!!!!
