Just when we thought Epcot Security was well run ....

Well frankly, I'm not surprised. The last two weeks I saw numerous wheeled coolers, 3 kids in a bike trailer (with a giant wheel in front and two small wheels on the back that didn't swivel, and the thing was WIDE), and adult pushing another adult in a Disney rental stroller, several people with chair canes, kids riding on a scooter drivers lap, and yes, a wagon. I felt like I was constantly turning around to my husband and saying What the heck???

I want to see this two person scooter contraption on a Disney bus. LOL.

I don't think I've ever sighed so loud or rolled my eyes as hard as I did seeing this. I can't believe they let them in the park with this! We don't know this party's needs, but they should abide by the rules Disney put out for mobility devices. This is a huge safety risk, both for them and the people around them.

I didn't take it, but assure you if I were there I would have taken plenty ... and then asked a CM WHY IS THAT IN HERE? loudly. It was taken by a regular at Disney and guess he was protecting their identity. But it got him thinking and me too ............

Drink around the World will be a new pay Disney Event ....

:earseek:

Reminds me though of something I did see with my own eyes and so wished I had photographed it but my mouth was hanging too wide open ....

Imagine I am just at corner at Peter Pan when stroller parking was still at Tangled bathrooms. A man came flying from Carousel direction in his ECV and his wife was in a manual W/C bungee corded to him. He took the turn hard and she flew out sideways like when you water ski. She maintained and I did admonish my thoughts but I was so hoping she would cut lose and fly over the bushes into the plants, bottom up. Okay that was mean ...... snicker.

I can't stop looking at this! Look at all that handy storage up top! Sign me up!

O. M. G. NOW I've see it all. I guess Wall-E isn't far from becoming a reality.

I just laughed out loud at this so hard that DD needed to know what was so funny. That's hilarious.
I'm not sure if it's an office chair, or an old hair dressers chair. My hair dressers chairs are almost identical to that...... lol

Ooohhhh..... a recliner! I like your thinking!

Recline when you're tired, pump yourself up higher for a better view of parades and fireworks. Hold an iPad over your head for good measure.

I don't know why Disney insists on using this particular language, but it only says "vehicles SHOULD be single rider and not exceed xyz..." It doesn't say MUST. And even if it breaks "the rules", it's Disney's rules and they retain the right to bend/change/ignore whatever rules they please, much to my chagrin. Unfortunately it's not against the law.

I think the rig shouldn't be allowed in, but I'm wondering if they found/argued some semantics based loophole. People never cease to amaze, eh?

Should and shall in legal documents has the same weight as must. I always thought it was permissive, but it isn't. I did transactional (contract) work for almost ten years before my current gig.

Someone recently pointed out to me that rolling coolers were ok, as long as they didn't exceed a given size. Don't remember what it was now but I do admit I didn't realize that.

And I didn't know chair canes were off limits or bike trailer strollers.

Not sure you realize that these usually have a tap system and serve beer.
Those things are great. We have 2 or 3 of them here, both on land and even 1 on water. It would be great fun to have one at WS. Though I'm certain that would never happen due to the hazard of maneuvering it in the crowds.

And again, Disney isn't "the law". It's their private property and if they wish to exempt someone from their rules at their own discretion then that's on them and allowed. Heck, we've all seen something in the parks at some point that left us wondering WTH??? Like this contraption. They clearly didn't sneak it in and can't hide it. Obviously The powers that be chose to allow it and make an exception to their private property rules.

There may be a good reason for it. The wife may be mobility impaired and possibly visually impaired that would stop her from having her own.

It was pretty fast! They raced past our family on the way out of Epcot yesterday!

Got to admit, after walking around the parks all day with tired, aching feet, I dreamed of hitching a ride on an ECV. Never thought my dreams could be a reality! :yay:

Think I can give you a good guess why because I have a similar situation. I am at the parks often with DS who is disabled and I do dread the day he will need to be pushed instead of walking. But right now I am the problem with RA and very bad knee. Last week, only three park days with a brace on and here I am day five still icing/heating to recover. I should be riding in the parks to keep from destroying my knee BUT my DS would never be able to walk along with me, the struggle would be very real for both of us. If something like this were legal, it would be answer to our problems.

I will guess this man needs/wants to ride for whatever reason and he is a speeder. (Note rules are you must not go faster than folks around you are walking so basically no passing the main crowd - we know that isn't enforced.) His wife has spent too many trips jogging to keep up with him and rather than him slow down to appropriate pace, he built her a jump seat. It def looks home built (although well done). My guess is he made sure it was within the length requirement for Disney, which may explain why his scooter looks too small for him - he had to go smaller.

Stuff like this are going to get worse and I wish Disney would get their rules in order and enforce them to insure the safety of the majority. Although they are very clear on the single rider vehicle thing and should have stopped them immediately. The parks are simply too crowded for unsafe conditions and now is not the time for Disney to become slack on what folks are bringing in and dragging around ... tripping people, hitting people, running over feet etc.

Disney may not be "the law" but if someone got hurt due to this being allowed in, and it went to court, The Law would be on the injured party's side, because Disney's "law" says it's not allowed. It's Disney's rules, but it's also legal fine print.

If someone got hurt from something that was "allowed in" the law would be on the injured party's side too. And that is between Disney and their lawyers.

My point is this...I DON'T THINK THIS CRAZY THING SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED IN...but clearly someone in charge in some capacity at Disney thought it should (whether the owner of the thing argued their way past the rule, or TPTB chose to simply let it slide). So there isn't a darn thing I can do about it even if it's in line for a churro behind me. Like when they let the monkey in the park. It's insanity. But it's their circus, not mine.

Having seen some CM turn a blind eye to Selfie Sticks (which are in no way allowed in ever) we all know that odds are great that whoever was at the gate when these folks entered chose to ignore it and let them in. Could they have put up a fuss and be let in? Sure, anything is possible. More than likely, whoever was at the turnstile when they came in just wasn't up to a confrontation that day. I know at Epcot I've seen many a CM working the turnstiles that were not the best English speakers. Most of the time, the language issue isn't a problem at the turnstiles (unlike when at a cash register, for instance) but there are times they do need to have the "gumption" to speak up. And everyone doesn't, no matter where they were born or what language they are comfortable with. And sometimes, they are just having a bad day and don't want to deal with it

I can even see how someone inside the park opts not to say anything since they figure, whoever was at the gate let them in so it must be ok
