I collaborate with a sophomore English teacher during my Holocaust unit ( I teach World Civ) and we use Maus , Schindler's List , and clips from the documentary Shoah. among other resources.

So don't worry. Some kids at least are learning about the Holocaust.

12 may be a little young for Night. You know your own child but you may want to read it first and then decide.

I'm a Junior in college. Trust me, we're not all bad. I do have to wonder how that girl got accepted into college though.

When I was in college over there some of the students could barely read and write!

To the poster who asked, I have read Night. It was indescribable. It's now on the bookshelf waiting to be read by my children.

That was me. I just bought 2 copies yesterday; one for each of my girls (twins). I will be reading it when they are through with it (or before if they don't start for a bit).
