Just want to say, we're here now and...

I'm glad folks are having a good time, but as far as the experience...they also haven't brought on about half of their customers yet. Might look a lot different once they do.

It will definitely be different because you will have everyone using FP+ and nobody using FP- (and nobody using both).

It remains to be seen how that all balances itself out. Could go either way.

What caused this to not be one of your better trips? was it the rudeness of the other guests?

Also, your point about the cluelessness of som CMs and getting different answers about questions drives us absolutely bonkers, too.

That definitely had something to do with it. I always thought people complaining about the Brazilians was pretty rude and racist, honestly. However, after making the trip this time and running into a lot of them, I totally see where they are coming from. Just because you can't speak English doesn't mean you should be excused from running into people, not respecting personal space, skipping line, etc. I saw a lot of "almost fights" break out from people cutting in line, people pushing and shoving through crowds, and just overall obnoxious behavior. Rides had to be stopped numerous times because of people not obeying the rules, there were 3 year olds sitting on outside seats of the train when they were told repeatedly to put children on the inside. CMs were having to repeat themselves like broken records for people to put their hands and feet inside the vehicles, and no one would listen. They would practically have to get in the guests face to make them do it.

Top it off that Pop Warner happened and we've never experienced that. We actually like the Stitch ride, and when the lights went out, kids were screaming as loud as they could constantly (clearly because they thought that was the cute thing to do...15, 16 year olds, I'm talking), so loud that we couldn't hear anything going on in the ride at all.

Aside from the crowd, there were a LOT of B modes going on. That wasn't as big of a deal, but just the little things. The mist wasn't working in POTC, the rocks aren't moving in the cave in Thunder Mountain, the service lights were on in Space Mountain, just general stuff like that, but honestly, that didn't bother me all that much, just something to add to it.

The bus system was 30+ minute waits constantly, but that was mostly Coronado's issue, we really didn't care for Coronado Springs (our first stay there). And on one of our bus rides, I got called a "disgusting person" for not standing up for some guys' kids. This was the first trip I didn't give up my seat at all on buses. I have chronic ACL injuries, and standing is really painful. I got told by a lot of people on these forums I should sit down, and if people want to sit down, they can wait for the next bus, so that's what I did. I told the guy that if he's so worried about his kids' safety, he should be prioritizing waiting for the next bus so his kids can be safe rather than getting to the park a few minutes early and disregarding his kids' safety to do it. I waited for a bus I could sit on, and there's no reason he can't do the same thing. Besides, everyones' feet hurt from standing all day, injury or not, and the people at the stops specifically ask "Do you mind standing? If so, wait for the next bus and we'll get you a seat."

And the worst issue is I had bank issues 10 hours away from home when I have a local bank. Most of my payment options didn't work.

We still had a really fun trip, it was just more aggravating than usual.

True, when the double dipping is taken out, as well as everyone brought on, then we will see how things work out.

Good to know! We stayed at Pop, and never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus to pull up. Of course, just because the bus is at the stop, doesn't mean you're getting on right away. ;) But it was never a big hassle. In fact, we often saw a second bus waiting right behind the first, so we never felt stressed about missing the first bus.

I'll be sure to cross Coronado Springs off our list of potential resorts, if we ever want to upgrade to a moderate. We've been spoiled by Pop's busses!

Sorry you had bank troubles, too.

Other guests were simultaneously one of the nicest parts of our vacation and the most aggravating. We had some wonderful conversations with people from all over while waiting in line or riding the bus. But there was more than one time when we'd get stuck behind someone dithering around at the beginning of the FP+ line or at tapstiles at the entrance of the park. There'd be an empty post sitting right there! But whenever I deked around them to use it, they'd give me the evil eye. :confused3

People also don't like it when you walk up to the empty side of a bag check table or cash register. I really wanted to say, "Look, just because YOU don't realize they serve both sides, that doesn't mean I have to wait in line!"

My husband and I also got yelled at by one miserable woman for exiting the bus before her and her babies. We were all of us sitting on the back bench of the bus, her and her family on one side and us on the other. Her infant had been screeching the entire trip. So, when the bus started emptying, we stood up, stepped over one of her strollers, and quickly got off the bus.

Evidently, though, she expected us to keep sitting there while she packed up all her gear and exited like a queen. So she yelled at us about cutting in front of "people with small children". And then yelled some more, because we ignored her. We were long gone, before she got off the bus.

My husband was pretty ticked, but I pointed out to him that we should just be grateful that our kids are teenagers now, and we're thankfully past all that. She's clearly stressed and a bit irrational.

And, interestingly, we saw her... or rather, heard her, as we were returning to the resort that evening. Her baby was still squalling at the top of his (very impressive) lungs! Fortunately, she was on the bus behind us. I felt sorry for her, and for anyone in the resort rooms immediately around her!

When I was at Epcot last week, I encountered not one...not two...but THREE extremely large and extremely LOUD Brazilian tour groups. They were walking through the breezeway coming from the direction of TT as I was going the opposite direction and they were chanting and shouting at the top of their lungs, making it echo as loud as possible. I usually don't have much of an issue with these groups, but I found that to be totally and completely rude and unnecessary. Thankfully we never crossed paths again during the day.

Yeah, that was just about the same experiences we had. Add to that the rides like Haunted Mansion that end in a crowd rather than a line, where the CMs beg everyone to please take up all space available, yet everyone insists staying single file, so you pass like 10 people in line and hear them angry behind you.

We saw someone breaking in a fastpass line and heard a guy behind us say "Hey, you know what you should do? You should go get in the fastpass line like everyone else!"

We saw some parents on one of the buses letting their 6 year old stand, and the kid was throwing a fit about something and fell into a lady that was holding a toddler. The lady looked pissed, and the kids parents just said calmly "Hold on to the railings, now. You'll hurt the baby" in a baby voice, and the kid told her "No, because you spanked me earlier" the kids parents then apologized to him. My wife was fuming watching it. lol. Parenting is on the downturn.

I just noticed it being worse this time than usual.

I should add, the Pop Warner crowd started arriving at the Pop Century two days before we checked out. We had no problem with the kids (they were all very young - I think the teens were staying at the All Stars).

What we *did* have a problem with was one of the adult chaperones/dads who felt the need to yell at the top of his lungs at one of the kids at 5:30 in the morning. Never heard a peep out of the kids, but we sure could hear him carrying on at length in his angry voice. He woke us up from several rooms away. If we'd been close enough to know which room he was in, we'd have called down to the desk to have them send someone up to have a chat with him.

Hopefully, someone else did! :thumbsup2

Really? When was your trip? We stayed one night, 12/7/13, at Pop for our trip. We saw a lot more Pop Warner people at Coronado than Pop Century.

I'll add that I saw you were one of those Pop fans before we went on our trip and this was our first stay at Pop. We were really dreading it. Hated the idea of it and were just staying there to tack another day on the trip at the cheapest hotel we could find. We thought it was so tacky and just a crappy place to stay after watching the videos and reading reviews. However we LOVED it. That place is great. I like AoA better, but we're definitely considering a full stay at Pop next time. That place should not be underestimated! We've narrowed our resorts down from now on to AoA or Pop vs monorail resorts. Call me a convert! I've seen the light!

Also, from your other post, we were impressed with the Pop buses as well. AoA and Pop seem to have it going on in the bus department. Best buses for sure.

Parenting is on the downturn.

One of the things my husband and I discussed on this trip was our tendency to be judgmental about very different things.

He gets all judge-y about other people's weight, probably because he's struggled with his own.

Me, parenting is my trigger. I really get frustrated with what I see as bad parenting.

But this trip, I actually made an effort to look for the good parents, and to compliment them and their children. I found it didn't just put a smile on their faces, it made me happy, too!

There were a lot of them, too.

A young family with an infant on the plane, who somehow managed to keep him entertained and happy (if not exactly quiet) the entire trip.

A woman with a wiggly, bored 5yo sitting in the Candlelight Processional - she managed to keep that boy quiet and on her lap the entire time! I know from experience how tough that can be. :thumbsup2

A delightful brother and sister sitting in front of us at the Lion King show. The cast member invited them up to shake rattles at the end, but the little boy was too shy. Then he was sad that he hadn't gone up after all, when he saw his sister in the parade. His mother hugged him, and whispered comfortingly in his ear, and when his sister came back all proud of herself, I saw mum give the boy another hug and simultaneously give the little girl a huge grin and a thumb's up behind his back where he couldn't see and be hurt by it.

I don't think parenting is any worse than it ever was. If anything, parents these days have some advantages previous generations never had. The internet provides forums full companionship and advice to new parents. People are less isolated. Also, more than ever, children are a planned-for choice, not an accident or obligation. People value their kids more and see them as desirable additions to their lives, rather than as a sentence or punishment. And, as such, they try harder to be good parents, reading more books and searching for more information.

"Mindful" parenting is definitely on the rise, as our cultural attitudes towards children shift. I'm quite optimistic about the future in general, even as I sometimes despair for particular parents and kids.

Probably my favourite Disney "bad parenting" moment was the woman who was standing over her cranky toddler in line for the bus, saying "Quit it," over and over in a monotone. Finally she bent down and swatted the child, adding, "Quit it!" Whereupon the wee darling immediately whipped around and swatted her right back! Instead of reacting to the fact that she'd just been smacked by her own child, Mom simply stood up and said, "Quit it," again. :lmao:

(I'm assuming she was beyond exhausted!)

We were there from November 30th to December 8th. Just got home yesterday!

And yes, my husband and I have discussed resort options at length, having toured most of them, stayed off-site, and also once at the Beach Club, and we're huge fans of Pop. For us, it's the best combination of onsite perks and value for our money. (Having good busses is a big selling point for us!)

The only other resorts we'd consider upgrading to are the Epcot area resorts - the Yacht and Beach Clubs and the Boardwalk. We've talked about doing that for one of our anniversaries... maybe the 25th! :lovestruc

haha exact same trip as us! We drove home yesterday from 85 degrees on the thermostat to 30 degrees and an ice storm at home!

Yeah, that's what the pull is for us to Pop Century and AoA. If you're going to save, save. If you're going to spend, SPEND. We value monorails though since DW has a major sea sickness issue. I don't think she'd do well with the ferries at the Epcot resorts lol. I think we like AoA better, but Pop puts us way closer to buses. I'm not looking forward to our decision on resorts we have to make for May.

Yes, if you're looking at Standard rooms it's quite the hike from the Mermaid rooms to the bus stop at AofA. Otherwise, though, the busses are basically the same. In fact, coming back from the parks, we often hopped onto whichever bus came first. If we ended up at AofA, it was an easy stroll across the lake back to our room. Quite nice at night!

My husband and I are quite comfortable with walking, which is why the Epcot resorts are so appealing to us. We can walk to Epcot in minutes, and Hollywood Studios is only about a 15 minute walk away, depending where you start from. Often, we find the walk faster and more convenient than the FriendShips. We only take the boats, if they're sitting right there, ready to leave.

I got wicked seasick on the ferry to MK on our last trip. And on Jungle Cruise. No more boats for me!

We were also there Nov. 30 to Dec. 8. There were 11 of us in 3 rooms at ASM. It was a mixed bag of good and not so good with MDE, MBs, and FP+.

Our MDE accounts automatically made my daughter the manager of all our accounts when we linked through My Family and Friends. No one could undo it, apparently. We spent hours on the phone with technical support before the trip. They were finally able to set things so each room could manage their own plans, though.

It took literally hours for us to make FP+ choices that were acceptable. Our MDE accounts ran very slowly. We finally gave up and left the last few days blank in hopes that the speed would improve later. I sent an email to customer support about the difficulty we were having about a month before our arrival. I received a reply the afternoon of our arrival.

Copying FP+ selections from one room to another sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. And on at least one occasion it showed that it had worked but didn't 'stick'. More about that later.

We learned at check-in that our MBs hadn't been activated, although they should have been before we received them (according to the CM). This added over an hour to our check-in process. Fortunately we arrived very early in the morning. One of our check-in CMs was very pushy about the 'fact' that the Magic Bands had to be used for everything. The card was only a back-up in case of a problem, etc. I'm sure she was just reciting what she had been told but the lecturing tone was very un-magical. The other two CMs were lovely, pleasant, and helpful, though. Mine told me to be sure to use each band assigned to the room to open the door when we first got to it so they were all 'completely activated'.

The MBs worked well for the most part. At a couple of ADRs one of the bands wouldn't scan but there were always other bands from that room so it wasn't much of an issue for us. If someone were traveling alone, though, it could be a problem. Much more of an issue for us was the lack of understanding of the system by the servers. Many seemed very stressed by it. (I know--we asked how most how things were going. I was amazed by some of the answers. And not once were we told that it was going well. Same story with the security personnel....)

About half way through the trip a couple of the MBs started being 'touchy'. Mine in particular wouldn't scan unless the Mickey on the band was turned the same direction as the Mickey on the scanner. Weird.

The day before we arrived my MDE account on the computer and my app stopped pulling reservations. So did my account manager daughter's. This caused so issues. We called tech support on arrival day, since the issue was still present. They told us that since we were on property it would have to be our concierge or Guest Relations that handled the problem. Neither of them could do anything about it, however. We finally got some functionality back on day 5 but we could never use the app to make changes.

Our second day was at DHS. This was the first place we had FP+ issues. My hubby and I arrived at TSM for our FP times (that had been copied from our daughter's room) and were told we were there at the wrong time. The copied time hadn't stuck, apparently. The CMs were less than pleasant about it, too. This prompted our first visit to Guest Relations. It took three visits and two hours to resolve this one issue. By the end of the week we had spent over 6 hours with Guest Relations at three different parks concerning FP+ issues. They were all courteous and helpful folks who resolved our problems satisfactorily, but I certainly didn't want to spend that much of my vacation with them.

Other than that the bands and FP+ worked beautifully. We were able to make good FP+ selections for our last few days even the night before. And it was lovely to practically walk onto rides that had stand-by times of 90 minutes and up. We did see quite a few other folks that were having issues with FP+. It was interesting to see the wide variety of responses by the CMs at the rides. They seemed not to have much knowledge of the system and so each had chosen to deal with issues their own way.

We only pulled paper fast passes once and still managed to do everything we wanted, usually more than once, without long waits.

It remains to be seen if things work so well with everybody on the new system. We won't try it again at least until all the bugs are worked out. And honestly, maybe not even then. I was left with the distinct impression all week that I was being 'herded'.

Concerning the crowds--we've never been this week before so we don't personally have anything to compare. But we talked to other guests all week and every one of them said it was more crowded than usual. I wonder if that's partly due to Thanksgiving being later this year? It didn't seem folks were any more or less thoughtful, though. Just the same as usual.

We only ran into one South American group--an Argentinian sports organization, I think. They were gathering on both sides of the street in front of the Train Station for the MSEP. At first their cheering wasn't too bad but as their numbers approached four hundred it got really loud and obtrusive. Then the suggestive antics of the male coaches during a beauty/popularity contest staged in the middle of the street really got the other guests angry. It was surprising how many complaints it took for the cast to try to reign them in. And just as surprising how difficult that was. Nine CMs, two security guards, and a line of blockading street vendors later it was finally calm again.

One other note--there were lots of rides broken down this week, some for extended periods of time. Lots of guests were talking about it. There was also lots of conversation about how unkempt things looked. Layers of dust lots of places I'd never seen it before, rust showing through, ride vehicles that looked like they hadn't been cleaned for quite some time, etc. It left me with the impression that things had been 'let go'. Just my opinion, my you.

We too went from 11/30 - 12/7 and we LOVED the magic bands and LOVED the FP+. We had KTTW cards and admit we double dipped one time and that was for TT cause the kids loved it so much. The app worked fine for us all week as well as the wifi. I changed things around a few times etc. We also loved not having to be at rope drop. Our TSM was for 11:00 so it was nice to not rush.

The other time I went was 3rd week of April 2012. The crowd for December were quite a bit higher then when we went in April. However I noticed tons of crowds in the walkways but the ride waits were pretty short.

We battled a sick family but otherwise had a good trip. I am returning in October 2014.
