Just thought of an improvement for future studios

hey I want the bigger balcony/patio that the Marriott have for their studios - I don't like the screen those - I like my balcony to be open....

I may get shelled for this one, but I wish they would just do away with the studios!!! For what you get, you can stay in a hotel, yeah the coffee and fridge are nice, you can get that at any higher end hotels. Before we bought, we stayed at the Contemporary and WL, always had a fridge and coffee maker. I would only have 1,2,and 3 bedrooms "timeshares". If you want a "studio", you can stay at any of the onsight or off site hotels.
The whole idea (at least my opinion), of the "timeshare" or home away from home, is at a minimum a 1 bedroom. I have only stayed in a studio once, and never again !!! That was at Vero and it felt like we were in a closet, we have since just stayed in 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and Inn rooms in Vero, which are regular hotel rooms, but with the added amenities. Maybe I would feel different if they did have real plates, cups, mugs, etc., or didn't have such an awful room at Vero!!!

I see where you are coming from on this one. We've only stayed in a 1BR as a family...and it would be tough to live without the washer/dryer and full kitchen now.

However, there are lots of people who don't need/want those amenities. Sure, they can stay in a high end hotel and get some of the studio amenities...but I don't know of many on-site WDW where you can do it for $100-$120 a night (or as low as $80 in the off season!)

I should then say get rid of grandvillas because the costs for them per night I could rent an entire home for the week. Each family has so many options at DVC. I would not want it any other way.

I would like to see a king bed option for studios, as that is all DW and I use. But the problem comes in with "flexibility" so to speak. While the current studio isn't optimal for my desires, it's perfectly useable by myself & all others. A king bed studio would only be acceptable for someone like myself so DVC would need to generate an entirely new catagory room to prevent people that can't use the king option won't get stuck with one. Then you run the risk of having to turn away guests that need the queens and leave king bed rooms empty.

If there was a king bed and a queen sleeper sofa...would there really be a problem? I was not under the impression that, in this dream, the sleeper sofa was *not* being removed. ;)

Most studios have queen + sleeper now (rather than two queens). If your choice is a King+sleeper or queen+sleeper...I can't see why it why the King/sleeper combo would be a problem.

Sigh....it will probably never happen anyway.

It would be a problem if the King+sleeper was a different category with higher point cost....

A king and a sleeper would probably be a floor space problem for all resorts other then OKW. Besides, if it's just DW and I with a king bed, way bother with the expense of a sofa bed when a nice loveseat would be perfectly acceptable.

I guess my point is better made by comparing a standard studio to a HC one. Nobody body wants to get a HC room but if all other studios are taken what option do you have ? Take it or not stay at all.

Just to clarify on MY "daydream" (and everyone is welcome to dream up their own version!) :p :

1) No changes to current DVC studios (unrealistic - even for a dream!!)

2) New improved studios idea is for a future DVC resort to be built.

3) Improved studio will retain Studio status - mot a separate category.

4) Dedicated 2 bedroom will have 2 queen beds in the 2nd bedroom - just 'cause I like it! Better for guests and kids, imo.

5) Since all lock off studios (besides OKW) already all have a bed and sleeper, I will assume all future studios in new DVC developments will retain this type of layout.

6) The only "real" change between the current studios and the future improved ones will be the substitution of a king bed instead of the current queen and a slightly larger unit to accomodate the larger bed.

7) The same size sleeper sofa will be furnished in the new studios as the old ones.

8) ALL newly built LOCK OFF studios will have the king/sleeper configuration. No separate option for king/sleeper OR queen/sleeper (current configuration.) As others pointed out, it would be wat too complicated to juggle the different types of units. So, ONE type of studio for the NEW DVC resort.

9)O'kay - throw in the real dishware in the studio idea too!! Although, I would anticipate more labors cost for mousekeepers. Since there aren't any dishwashers in the studio, housekeeping will need to either wash dishware by hand (between guests) or have to send dirty dishes down to the kitchen and bring clean ones up. And people complain about seeing trays of dirty dishes in the hallways now!!

10) Yes, the point cost per night will probably be higher. But I anticipate that DVC will raise the points costs per night for new DVC resort developments anyways! So, it would be nice to get some improvements at the same time.

11) I would use more points per night for a studio if the new DVC resort was located on the monorail - i.e. the Contemporary.

12) I would not if it was at Eagles Pine (I would get a 1 bedroom at OKW instead.)

13) Even in my own "daydream," I concede that it will probably never happen because, bottom line,... where's the money in it for Disney!!

Would anyone spend more points per night for a monorail DVC studio if the unit layout was the same as BWV/BCV/VWL/SSR?

Would you spend more points per night for a monorail DVC studio IF the unit was SLIGHTLY bigger and had a king/sleeper as opposed to a queen/sleeper?

Please remember that Contemporary hotel rooms are huge and sleep 5 comfortably. Also, I think that Disney is adding complimentary fridges to their hotel rooms?

I can pretty much guarantee that the next DVC resort will have higher point costs no matter what bed type is in there.(look what they are getting away with at SSR on the GV!).

I'd pay an extra point or two per night for a king.

DVC has shown the trend to try to keep things consistent. I was shocked when VWL had the same points structure as BWV but once those two and BCV were in the mix all the same, the mould was set. I'd expect any upscale destination type resort like CR, to be the same as BWV/BCV/VWL (excluding standard view). And if EP happens, I'd expect it to be exactly the same as SSR.

I guess I was thinking (dreaming?) monorail resort when I posted that. I do think that a monorail DVC resort will go for more points. I just hope we find out someday! :D

You are right...the current studio points are relatively consistent. As you go up to a GV the difference in points becomes more evident. I suppose it's all relative.
