Just the two of us- WDW May 09 countdown on! **UPDATE Trying to change plans AGAIN!**

I don't have any experience with nursing or paralegal studies, but you have to decide what will make you happy. What are you interested in? Both are pretty solid lines of work with sable employment histories. As a mom, I think you would have a more regular schedule as a paralegal. As a nurse, you never know what shift you'll be working. What if you were on midnights, how would that effect your time with Rylan or your social life for that matter (you can't forget yourself!!) It's so hard to choose a career while in school. I wish you could try out careers before choosing. I think there would be less disgruntled employees out there!

You really have to think about what's going to be best for you, Rylan and your life style. Don't choose a profession because the money is good, even if you have $$, if the job sucks, you wont be happy.

Oh poop, I think our cable just went out. The wind is blowing like 50mph right now. It feels like the whole hose is about to blow away!

Anyway, I know I babbled alot and didn't really give you any advice, so paralegal studies sounds great, go for it!

What I had planned on doing with nursing was to work weekend shifts overnight. I figured that would be great while he is in school so I can be involved, but then again finding someone to keep him the entire weekend would be hard.

With working as a paralegal my hours would be more 9-5 with very possible OT but more normal and we would have weekends together.

With both, money is an issue but loving my job is much more of an issue. I think both positions are pretty lucrative when it comes to money. I looked up the median pay for paralegals/legal assistants and its around $50,000 a year with the lowest around $34,000 a year. Either way, whatever I decide to do, it will be more than I make now and that's all that matters. But I have to love my job.

With nursing, what I hate is that its SO competitive. You really have to focus on getting As the whole time to get into the program and then they only accept 60 students a semester. I could do the whole paralegal studies program online if I so chose (although I wouldn't). I think it would be really fascinating to take law classes and learn about that. You basically do all the behind the scenes work and stuff while the attorney handles the rest. I love law shows and always have but I don't know.

Auugh I hate this decision! I should probably ask M since he is wanting to go to law school, but then again I don't want to weird him out and make him think I'm trying to be like him LOL.

I think the only problem I would come across with working as a paralegal would be starting on somewhere, however you are required to do an internship and I would assume that's a stepping stone for working for a law firm or the state.

I will have to talk to my friends and think it over. I have just been having so many doubts about nursing lately and trying to decide if its really for me or not. Part of me is scared knowing I could be holding someone's life in my hands, literally.

Hey there!! You'll figure it out and what's best for you and Rylan. Let your heart do the leading and have faith...Trust me it will come to you like flash of light :)

Crazy about the border, who knew that you should travel with your bank statement. :confused3

Cute bathing suit and Tink shirt!

I have no advise on the school front. I know it can be very frustrating. I went to university straight out of high school and got my degree in English. While I really enjoyed all my classes it has been pretty much useless when it comes to finding a job so I am going back to school for Nursing. Best of luck in figuring out what you want to do!

The law has always intrigued me. I find it interesting that there are so many loopholes and specifics when it comes to that. I don't think I would actually go into law school, I don't have the time nor the money, but I am almost positive that this program doesn't require admission into it. I believe you can just take your courses and graduate. I have to call the school tomorrow. I would probably just do the paralegal studies and work as a paralegal or legal secretary. I would love to work for the state or federal government.

Well, before I became an attorney, I worked as a paralegal for a number of years. Ask me anything, or feel free to PM me anytime with questions.

Oh any information would be awesome!! Like whats the job market like straight out of school, is a 2 year degree feasible, what are the hours like, the work like, did you like it? Anything! lol.

Hey Kara..not sure if you've seen my PTR--but I applied to the community college this afternoon--taking culinary arts :) I'm a little nervous about it all.

You'll figure it out...it will come to you like a lightbulb going on!! :)

Good luck deciding! Just make sure it's what makes you happy.

Okay...so I am thinking about changing my major...to paralegal studies...not sure. After this semester with anatomy I just don't know if I want to get much further into nursing.... I already have almost all the pre reqs done for the paralegal program so it wouldn't hurt me. Anyone know anyone who is in this line of work? Or even criminal justice? Anyone have any thoughts on it?

If that sounds interesting to you go for it. A lot of people change their minds about their major after a couple of classes. It's good to recognize that you do not want to do that now, than half way to graduation. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Guess who has a date with M tonight????????????

Yes that's right. I do!!! :goodvibes :cool1:

Yippie!! Have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do!!!;) Let us know how it goes, I want all the juicy details!!!

Ahhh greatness!

We went to this place called Yats. For anyone who doesn't know its a down home Cajun restaurant that's super small. I had never been and he really wanted to go and man it was good!! After we ate he asked what time I had to pick up Rylan and I told him not for a while. So he said I could come back to his place if I wanted :) We watched The Dark Knight which we had both already seen before and somewhere in the middle of it he gave me THE most passionate kiss EVER. Yum. I get tingles thinking about it :)

Anyway I ended up asking him about where we stood...since the last I had heard about it, he wanted to be friends for now. He did go to the doctor Monday but he still has a feeling something's wrong. He said he knows his body and something is not right and for some odd reason he is losing weight when he isn't trying. He is going to see HIS doctor to have them do an ultrasound of the tumor. He's super afraid about it and still is afraid to be in a serious relationship with me until he finds out what's going on. He did say he likes me a lot (woohoo!) and definitely wants to continue seeing me and going out but he still wants to take things really slow right now. So basically we are seeing each other with no "title"? Not a big deal. He is also super afraid of the fact that I have a son and that he may have cancer. He said he would never want to let Rylan see him throwing up and being super sick from chemo. (I told him I would buy him a wig and bring him presents to the hospital lol) I told him that he isn't giving me a choice in it, that he's making the decision for both of us and that's not fair, and he totally understood that and apologized. I think everything's okay right now :) :)

We walked out to my car (HAHA he had his long black dress coat on with loafers and shorts. He looked like he was naked under his coat LOL) and said our goodbyes. He just stood there and puckered his lips and made a kissy face lol so he kissed me like 12 times and told me we would do something again soon and he wouldn't be a stranger :) And to call him when we got home so he knew we made it okay.

I did call him a little bit ago and he was still up. He decided to go lay down to try to sleep but said he would probably call me in a bit if he couldn't sleep :)

I think everything sounds okay right?

Hey Kara---glad the date went well. I can see where he's coming from but sometimes you have to put everything aside and just go for it. But that's just me and how I do things. To me it sounds like he wants something serious but would feel bad of putting you and Rylan through is illness (if he has cancer that is). Just take it slow, see where things go :)

I think that's exactly how he feels. He knows that if he has it, its a HUGE deal and he thinks it wouldn't be fair to willingly subject someone else to it. He was being awful pessimistic tonight though. He was talking about how I think he is a great person but he has a bad side too, etc. I don't know what the point was there but I am not going to pursue it.

Sounds like a great date except for the end part!! I understand not wanting to let you in if he is sick, but like you said, he's not giving you a choice. Hopefully, his doctor will confirm that nothing is wrong and he can cheer up! Right now, he's just scared of the what if!

I'd be checking to see who else is out there on Match.com:surfweb: (don't put all of your eggs in one basket!!), but I'm a glass half full kinda person.:rotfl:

No, seriously, it's probably best to take it slow anyway. What do I know about taking things slow, DH and I went out and he moved in with me 4 weeks later. We've been together 10+ years now!:lovestruc

I am not too sure about this DME. The more I think about it, the more I think its going to be a hassle...

I know they handle my bags all the way to Orlando, but since I am not flying on a participating airline I have to check my bags on the return flight. I also don't like the idea of not having my luggage for several hours after we arrive at the hotel.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions? If so, please place them in the box to your left!

We're not flying a participating airline this time either, but we'll still use DME. It's still very convenient. We usually pack shorts in our carry-on bag so when we get to our resort we check-in, change, hand our bag off to guest services and we're off. Actually, we've never waited more than an hour for our bags, but I know that's not guaranteed to happen for you. If you don't want to wait, you can always claim your bags and take them on DME with you. As far as the return flight, you can check-in and get your boarding passes at the airline check in desk even if you are not on a participating airline. You can also have them hold your luggage for you on the last day after check-out, before you are being picked up by DME. I think the biggest inconvenience with using DME is having to check your bags when you get to the airport to come home, but you will have to do that even if you don't use DME. Plus, DME is free and roundtrip in a taxi or town car costs about $120.

Just my 2 cents!!
