DH and I have been toying with the idea of purchasing DVC for over a decade, back when we first started dating. We kept putting it off. It was never “the right time”. Grad school, unstable early career jobs, the financial strain of infertility and IVF. In the meantime we’ve done Disney every 18-24 months on rented points

I hadn’t kept up on the resale market much the last few years, but watching my kids playing by our Christmas tree last night it hit me that there will never be a perfect time, and they’re only kids once.

if 2020 taught me anything, it’s that YOLO is stil extremely relevant. So after roughly 5 minutes looking at the recent ROFR threads reports and 20 minutes comparing contracts across several of the larger brokers, we put an offer in on a small starter AKV contract. We aren’t concerned about the loss of perks from not having a blue card, and after a resort-only stay with a 3 year old at the pretty-much-closed Jambo house back in October on rented points, we realized that even if we never set foot in the parks again, we would find the value in guaranteeing vacations to such an amazing and unique resort.

So now we wait to see if the sellers accept our offer, and then cross our fingers that it slides through ROFR quickly

I own at AKV and love it! I'd be perfectly content on resort only stays there. It's a destination in itself. Good luck.

honestly it was the resort only trip that sealed it in my brain. We had a blow out 10 day 3rd birthday trip planned for our son with all the parks and amazing ADRs that we cancelled for obvious reasons.

but we felt bad for the poor dude- a new baby sister, a pandemic, not seeing his friends since last February. And when I heard Jambo was only open to DVC stays, the wheels in my head started turning and I proposed driving 24 hours each way for a disney trip with no disney 😂

and it ended up being the best vacation ever, as far as I’m concerned.

My VGC resale a year ago was kind of spontaneous. I had been looking for a 100 point, April use year. April seemed to be rare. I had the DVC Resale Market app, and an April popped up for 150 points. I was at work and was thinking about it and figured what the heck, my 401K had a good year, I’ll go for it. Made the offer, accepted, docusigned the contract the next day. Closed within 30 days.

Good move taking that vacation. I had the same reaction when we went early Dec. One of the best vacations we ever had. I never felt uncomfortable. We actually did parks though as well as resort only days. Low crowd levels and wait times. The only downside to this year was not all restaurants were open, canceled shows and no fireworks.

Had offers on Saratoga and my son and daughter asked why there I replied its the cheapest. Yes it was but do you want to stay there even if we could not attend the parks so asked the family it was unanimous Animal kingdom. Just lucky that Disney took both contacts and AK went through. Good Luck hope it goes through

I jumped on a 50 point resale at AKV 7 years ago... It was the best $5k I ever spent. Sending good juju your way! :cheer2:

This is very cool

Good luck. Beware of Adonitis. Its real, we caught it.
Be sure you are buying at least as many points or more than you think you will need.
And never ever stay in a 1 BR. You will never go back to a studio.
We found that was true at BWV and AKL. Adonitis and upgrading room guilty.

No truer words have ever been said. Addonitis will be written on my tombstone. ;-)
