Just scored bacon for 1 cent/ package

I was at Safeway and checked out the clearance (close date) sales. They had 4 packages of OM center cutbacon. Normally $8.49 for a 12 oz package. They had it marked 50% off because the date was April 30.

I walked over and checked the regular section and that bacon was on regular sale BOGO. So, I went through the checkstand and then after they had rung up everything, then scanned my club card and the bacon rang up 1/2 off $8.49, then buy one get free, so I got them for 1 cent each. Score!

congrats on your buy. Is bacon always so expensive in Co? 8 bucks! wow. I never pay more the $4.59 for OM center cut. At least once a month I find it for 2.99. Then the brands cycle. This week smithfield bacon is on sale for 3 bucks.

I think this is probably what happened: The bacon was $8.49. Then 50% off is $4.25. So she bought two of those, for a grand total of $8.50. And then since they were supposed to be BOGO, the cash register probably took off the full $8.49, not recoginizing that those particular package was already cheaper because it was going to expire, thus costing the OP $0.01.

I was just at the site as I have a club card. You can get the bacon on your card for the BOGO for 4.89. She might have been talking about the area where the meat is discounted

My local Superfresh market used to do something similar though not as good as one cent. They would put 50% off stickers on close dated items, especially in the bakery. Then if the item was on sale, they would usually take 50% off the original price. So if a cake was $6.99 on sale for $3.00 off to make it $3.99, with the 50% off sticker they would take the $3.50 off the $6.99 and then $3.00 off for it be $0.50 for the cake. I really miss them (they closed last year after a new Walmart Supercenter opened up and everyone stopped going to Superfresh )

I love their clearance section. I have had similar discounts taken on their already clearanced items, I also combine it with a coupon if I have one to make it even cheaper
