Just got out of the Golden Mickeys, and it truly rivals Disney Dreams (and believe me, I don't say that lightly). We'll post a full report with photos (taken flash-free) when we return, but here are some quick highlights:
The theme is an awards show, with various segments such as Romance and Villians. The theme is used as a plot device to introduce a dazzling array of songs and characters from Disney movies such as Tarzan, Pochohantas, Snow White, Mulan, and Sleeping Beauty.
I really liked how the show began, with an intro. by Roy Disney and a neat segment on the history of Walt and his studio.
Some of the numbers that were real highlights were Snow White (which made great use of screens to make it look like she was really in the forest), Mulan with stick fight sequence, Tarzan with vine climbing, and a cool Toy Story number. Best of all, two of my favorite characters, Stitch and Cruella DeVille, make appearances.
I have to run, as my time is running out (I'm doing the "buy 5 minutes, get 5 free special!), but I wanted to tantilize everyone and let you all know that you're in for a real treat with this show. I halfway wish I could skip dinner to see it again...oh well, at least we'll be back in Nov. The Golden Mickeys is Disney at its best!

Thanks, Barb. Can't wait to see the pictures.

Thanks Barb ! Sounds great, we will be seeing it in just 16 days!

Okay, please forgive me if this has been answered on the boards, but is this show a replacement of Disney Dreams?

It's not replacing Dreams. It is replacing the Variety Show on the 4-night.

Oh please tell me this will be on the Magic in Nov My girls love all of those characters and they hated the variety shows. It sounds wonderful.

I assume it will also be on the Wonder 3-day...I hope!!! Can't wait to see it.

MJ

Thanks for the info, Barb! Can't wait to see it in December!

BTW, are they selling a Golden Mickeys pin in Mickey's Mates?

I hope it is on the Magic by Thanksgiving! I would love to see it! I know a lot of people here are going to have a fit, but I was not crazy about Disney Dreams, and as far as the other shows go, I feel that Been there Done that.... I know I am the minority. But a new show would be great to see!

This show won't be on the Magic for quite some time, although a definite date hasn't been announced....probably not until 2004. Right now it's on the Wonder 3 and 4 night sailings. It sounds like a truly magical show and is supposed to be quite technologically advanced. I too am glad it hasn't replaced Disney Dreams but rather sounds like a perfect way to kick off the cruise. ---Kathy

Thanks for the report! It sounds great! I can't wait to see it next month.

Did they show it on the first night? Are they still showing Hercules? I like Hercules (even though I know many others have said they didn't like it---I think it is really funny).

Thanks again for the report!
DJ

P.S. MMOUSE37, Barb is on a 3 night cruise right now, so it is showing on the 3 night. I would assume the 4 night too. We were suppose to take a 7 night this year, but because of some unexpected changes in our lives, we are on a 3 day instead. This makes up for my disappointment for missing out on the 7 day! I can't wait to see it!

I also thought it was as good (if not better) than Dreams. I will try to answer any questions I can and then maybe Barb can answer the rest.

It was shown on the first night, Herc was still on the second night, Dreams on the third night.

I did not see a pin, but I was not looking for one, so it may have been there.

I can not express to you how great I thought this show was. I cried, during almost every scene (I will blame the pregnancy horomone for that;) ). It was truly wonderful!

Christy - it was a several hankie show for me and I definitely CAN'T blame it on hormones, lol.

I really loved the show and it definitely is as wonderful, if not even more wonderful than Disney Dreams. Especially, I think, for little boys. There isn't quite so much focus on girly stuff like princesses which made it the best show in the eyes of my 10 year old nephew.

Some highlights for me...
Seeing Quasimodo and hearing some of the beautiful score from that film. Loved the scene change from the Mulan bit. Wanted to send a thank you note to the designer of Tarzan's costume ;) . Thought the use of scrims and lighting for some of the scenes was extremely effective. Was happy to see a bit of villainy featured via Cruella de Vil and Ursula. Seeing all the "guest stars" who appeared via video. Seeing real life guest stars in the roles of Snow White's 7 Dwarves.

The disappointments...
The use of flash photography during the show. I don't understand why people are willing to risk the performers' safety by using their flashes while dancers are performing on a moving ship. Not only is it discourteous to the performers, it is also rude to your fellow guests. :(

Just got home and I'll have a full report soon, but right now it's time for bed! But just to let you all know, I looked for a pin and didn't see any. Also, remember that DCL sometimes moves around the shows, so "Golden Mickeys" might not always be on the first night. It is such a spectacular show. I am going to run through hubby's pictures to remind myself of all the numbers so I am sure not to forget anything when I do my trip report. I was annoyed by the flashes, too. We are always courteous and take photos without the flash, in "night" mode, and they come out really good unless the scene is very dark. This show is so amazingly fast moving and entertaining. It's like they took the best of the shows in the parks and combined that into one whiz-bang experience. I also liked the fact that they included some information on Walt Disney himself. I love the characters, but I also love seeing history and tributes to the man who created them. Hopefully I'll have my trip report done tomorrow or Weds. at the latest. I am so excited about the show that I really want to share it with everyone!

I thought the plan was to start it on the magic after dry dock?! I was really looking forward to a new show. Where did you hear it won't be on until 2004?

it's really surprising if Golden Mickeys won't be on Magic til 04...Considering the 7 day has more of a need for a third great show (IMHO Morty and WWTBAM really are ponderous)...
