Just Saved over $400 using Disney gift cards purchased at Target!

Does anyone know if the Black Friday 20% off coupon is something the register prints (timing set by the computer) or the cashier just hands you? I tried to ask the cashier yesterday if they might start handing them out Thursday night and she had no idea what I was talking about.

I know the fine print says it starts at midnight CST in the stores or a little later on-line, but I was really hoping to avoid the Friday crowds or getting up at 4 am ;-) I'm saving THAT for when we leave the next day!

Just a heads up... I noticed when I was shopping at my Target this weekend that they have added new displays of gift cards, including $50 Disney cards. These are small displays attached to the sides of endcaps. There were two of them in the toy section and two more in the holiday decoration area. This is in addition to the big temporary display near checkout with gift cards (in my store, there are only $25 Disney cards available on that display).

So if you are anticipating that there will be a big run on Disney cards in your store if the BF coupon works, be aware that there might be stashes of cards in unusual places!

There are reports that the coupons that you would get at the store are currently locked up in managers' offices. This leads me to believe that they are coupons that will be handed out at the registers and NOT a catalina coupon that prints when you check out.

Page 34 of the Black Friday circular (you can view it on Target.com) shows the details of the promotion.
Your $75 purchase must be made in a single transaction between 12:01 AM CST and store close, or online between 11/29/13 at 2:00 AM CST and 11/30/13 at 1:59:59 AM CST.

Thank you, Marionnette, for the scoop!

What do y'all think Target will be like at 5 am? Since they don't have a big morning opening (opening at 8 pm the night before), won't people be getting there at random times? I thought maybe I could get up early Friday to help me get up early Saturday. I'll be sticking in a nap and an early bedtime, though!

I would have to think that it won't be too insane at 5AM since the initial rush would have been let in. Last year I went to a couple different Targets looking for a DVD and even though the store was fairly easy to navigate through... the line was INSANE with many fights almost breaking out because people were trying to cut -_- It was pretty ridiculous.

Has anyone verified that gift card purchases receive the 20% off? I just spoke to someone at my local Target store and was told that it was not good for gift card purchases.

The leaked copy of the 20%-off coupon shows that it specifically excludes gift cards. Some would like to believe that since Target codes Disney GCs as "entertainment cards" for checkout purposes, that they are considered to be "merchandise" and not "gift cards".

No one will know for sure until someone tries it on 12/01. And even then, it may end up being a case of YMMV.

Here's an update. I spoke to a manager at my local Target and was told that the 20% off coupon will print out on your receipt. She also said that there were no restrictions and that it could be used to purchase anything in the store! She said yes even gift cards.

I'm sorry, hun, but that is incorrect. The 20% will not print out on your receipt. The coupon will be a paper coupon handed out by cashiers starting at midnight Friday (4 hours after store opening)

There are *numerous* restrictions printed on the coupon.

This, so far, is public information at the store I work at. I have seen the coupons for myself.

It is currently unclear whether or not "entertainment" cards will work with this coupon. Frankly no one will know until it is tried.

As in many jobs, there are people who will tell you what you want to hear. Whether to get back to their task, sound like they know what they are talking about, or simply just make you feel good. Today, as you can imagine, is a very stress-filled hectic day at Target! Lots of behind the scenes tasks to get taken care of.

Many Target managers are not long time employees. The are hired straight out of college. These babes try desperately hard... to be respected, to look important, to make people happy.

Often folks are afraid to just say "I don't know" (an honest answer!) at the risk looking stupid to the other person. I have encountered this at other shopping establishments and in other parts of real life. Just a few months ago I had a A/C repair man try to bluff his way through a diagnostic, which I the homeowner, knew was vastly incorrect. People do it all the time. I have worked in the office world and have seen co-workers bluff their way out of saying "I don't know" too.

The coupon is a "front end" issue. If this was a manager not from the "front end" they may not have known. Or for reasons stated above, just wanted you to hear yes, yes, yes.

So it seems on the east coast we have to wait until 3am to make our $75 purchases online. Hopefully some of the better items are left!
