We had a ball!!! We have stayed at the CR twice before; once in the North Wing and then in the Tower. This time we were in the South Wing. Were we spoiled by the Tower? Yes! However, the rooms are alike in size and setup. We requested a room close to the main building. When we checked in, we were put in the closest room (past midway in the South Wing). Very long walk as I have a very bad back. They told me to check back the following a.m. (Sunday) as they were almost booked solid Saturday night. A couple of hours later, they called and said they had a closer room. It was two doors from the South Wing entrance by the main building. We were overlooking the pool and lake. Wonderful!

The entrance to the South Wing was approx. 140 steps from the exit of the main building. Not that far at all. We actually preferred it to the North Wing as it was by the pools.

I looked for things like hallway carpet and wallpaper needing to be replaced. I did not find it to be that bad. Probably would not have noticed it if I had not been looking for it! Our room was in excellent shape and Mousekeeping was superb!

We had burgers at the food court once and they were great. Glad we did not purchase a mug as we would have used it once in the week. Coffee pots in the room were nice and the coffee was good. Used the fridge for soft drinks and water brought from home.

The staff could not have been nicer. From the valets and bellmen who greeted us with huge smiles and welcomes to the front desk personnel. They made a huge deal over my DD's birthday after they read the reservation. Sent balloons and autographed, personalized picture to the room. She was thrilled. Bell services were prompt (less than 5 minutes) when we checked out.

DD opened the pool one a.m. They really made her feel like a big shot!

We watched the Electrical Water Pageant each night from our room. Very nice!

We loved the CR! Would the Tower have been nicer? Maybe, for convenience and with a MK view. But not for $100 extra a night. We were all very happy with our location and our stay!

Glad you had a nice time. We once stayed in the South Garden wing and had a room overlooking the canal between Bay Lake and the SSL. It was unbelievably quiet and serene, felt like we were alone in the building when in fact it was a pretty busy time in April. :sunny:

Welcome back! I am glad you had such a good time. There has been some bashing of the CR on the boards so it is nice to hear a good report. This is on of the maybe resorts for us. I guess I will have to keep it on our list.

 :wave2: princess: princess:

glad you had such a nice time! were looking forward to our stay in the contemporary towers this may! :cool1:

Thanks for the review - CR is next on our list of Deluxes to stay at....

Glad you had a nice stay. We are going May14th and were concerned with the decor. So many people dislike the COntemporary we were getting worried. A few people at work have stayed there and they all loved it. I'm sure we will too....

I'm glad you had such a nice stay! We would like to try that resort too, but now we are booked at WL in June. I was thinking of changing it for convenience of the monorail, but I heard rumors of a major rehab so I thought we would stay at WL and try CR for our next trip. :teeth:

Glad you enjoyed it. Will be going soon for our first time at Contemporary. Have been reading too many mixed reviews.....Oh well!! Hoping for the best:):) Thanks for the upbeat comments.

Have a magical Disney Day!!

WE have only stayed in the Tower. Always wondered about the wings. Is it covered hallways from the wings area to the main lobby?

Thanks for the nice post about your recent CR stay! The past few posts concerning the WINGS of this resort, have been less than favorable. I'm pleased to read your thoughts on the "condition" of the resort, adding you even "looked" for things *(such as hall carpet, wallpaper, etc) which had been mentioned as troublesome in previous threads. I was relieved to read you failed to find anything "negative" worth mentioning.

We have never stayed in the Wings, but for the price difference you mentioned, we would strongly consider it! :goodvibes We too...love the location, amenities and everything else about this resort.

I hope your back did not bother you too much, or detract from the enjoyment of your visit. Sorry to read about this, but pleased the resort staff took appropriate measures to accommodate your condition. ;) Your post makes me want to call CRO and reserve a stay at the CR! Thanks again...for taking the time to post a detailed review. :cloud9:

MinnieM3: Yes, there are covered walkways from the wings to the main building.

dreamflight99: Thanks for your concerns regarding my back. Yes, people wonder what the heck I was thinking going to Disney with a bad back. Due to have rods placed this summer and wanted to go prior to that. We just took things slowly and sat down a lot. Did fine! The CMs could not have been nicer about accomodating us!

I forgot to mention one tip in my original post: Bring bathroom deodorizer! The "water closet" is not equipped with a fan. Can get a bit odoriferous!

Glad you had a nice trip. CR will always be "home" to us. We like to try other resorts, but this one always holds a special place in our hearts!

So glad to read your post :flower: My dh wants to stay in the tower for the last three nights of our Dec anniversary trip. My question is: Is it really worth it? You've stayed tower and wings, what do you think? My dh does not want a wing room, only tower magic kingdom view.

Niether of my girls swim. How is the pool for non-swimming kids?

Thanks,
Shellie

Thanks 4mykids! I always wanted to know that! Which side is closer to the walkway to MK?

fam4jc: Don't get me wrong; it doesn't get much better than the Tower. But at the time we booked the difference between wing and tower was $100/night. The rooms are the same size and theme, so you are paying for location/view. We could not swing an extra $700 just for the location/view. If your husband says do it, then by all means! We loved our wing room with view of pool and lake. $100/night was not worth it for us. The trip we stayed in the tower, we had an overflow rate of $149 from the SOG. That's the ONLY way we could have done it.

As for the pool, it is 3 feet all over the pool. There are life jackets available. My DD is not the best swimmer, but she was fine going down the slide. There is also a large geyser-type fountain the the pool as well as smaller fountains coming out of the side of the pool (you can swim under them or through them). Sorry, I know that doesn't make sense. The pool is a freeform shape, very large. In view of the pool, is a pool that is right on the lake. Never made it over there. Assumed it was more of an adult pool.
Also, there is a jet playground for small ones in the pool area. Lots to do.

MinnieM3: The North Wing is closest to the MK walkway.
