Spent June 4 - June 11 at WDW. Fri, Sat & Sun at SSR and Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs at VWL.

Here are my reviews:

My stay at SSR was not as I expected. I thought there would be so much more to do. Especially for the kids. There were no activities like at the other DVC resorts. The constant construction around us was bothersome. I did not realize that they are not even close to being completed. On the other hand the buses were empty and no one was at the pool which was good. But it just seemed deserted to me. The hotel itself is very nice and the pool is too. Artist Palate had good food but limited. The people at the front desk and all the CMs were very polite and helpful and always said "Welcome Home".

My stay at VWL was good. Being VWL owners this was the first time at this resort. The boat ride was great to MK and CR. The restaraunts were fantastic. Especially WCC. The kids loved it. The CMs were very polite and always said "Welcome Home".

We have now been at all 5 Disney Resorts. I would rate them as follows.

1. BCV
2. BWV
3. VWL
4. OKW
5. SSR

We had a great vacation and can't wait to go back in December.

I'm glad you had a nice time and enjoyed both resorts, and I hope SSR gets activities for the kids.

SSR has construction for another two or three years -- Phase III is scheduled to be complete in 2007. But once Phase I is done this year and Phase II next year I suspect the resort will be much more livable.

Glad the overall trip was enjoyable.

I dont understand what you expected for a new resort which is still being worked on ??

Well, granted, it might SEEM like folks should know it's under construction, but perhaps not. After all, if a place says it's Open for Business (and even goes through the trouble of having a Grand Opening ceremony, even) you might believe it is OPEN (as in, all facilities, programs, etc are in place) and that construction is kept well outside your sight.

In this case, however, looks like construction until end of July. Our ressie is for mid August -- I'll be curious to see how the place looks then, with the 4 bldgs facing DTD done. Is SSR planning to do activities like OKW? Does it have a community hall, or plans for one?

Construction will be ongoing for much longer than July '04. The four waterside buildings are basically complete from an exterior construction standpoint. In many ways you can't even tell they are still under development.

But the rest of the property features construction walls and gates, construction equipment (cranes, backhoes, etc) and large steel framework that will eventually represent completed buildings. In all likelihood, the first thing you will see upon entry to the property is one of the incomplete buildings right in front of your vehicle.

Those who are uncomfortable with such an appearance should definitely select a different resort for at least the next year. The final building of Phase 2 will not open until the Fall of 2005.

Very glad your trip went well overall. I am contemplating a trip to SSR next fall. Can you, or anyone else (at the risk of hijacking your thread), tell me how you feel about the location, and whether you believe the place will have that 'magic' feeling once the construction is totally finished and the resort complete?
