I just got back from my first DL trip (2/8-2/11), which was also a Solo Trip. My DH took 3 days off work so I could travel on my own. I've been to WDW many times so I'll just report the details I think would be helpful for other first timers. I'm about 5 months pregnant so I was a bit picky with what I rode. My OB said that theme park warnings were baloney and the amount of impact in the average ride was negligible but I skipped all of the coasters and Indiana Jones. The weather was quite cool!

I flew in to John Wayne airport; very nice and it was only a 15 minute trip to the hotel. I stayed at the Camelot Inn and Suites. The hotel is not fancy on the outside but it was right across the street (5 minute walk to front gate). The staff was very friendly and the room was immaculate. I hit CA at midday Thursday, as soon as I arrived. I walked on to everything, even Soarin', without a wait. Thursday night and Friday I went to DL. I waited 0-10 minutes for all attractions until about 4 pm when an influx of people arrived. Saturday was very busy. I got the impression that many people were locals. Loved the chicken dinner at the Plaza Inn; the child size dinner is a good bargain!

Overall, my impression of the whole park is that it is so much more....manageable than WDW. Although I saw some cranky kids, I didn't see the typical WDW family meltdown with the parents pushing to do more, more, more because of the distance and expense of the trip and the kids being completely overwhelmed. If I make another trip when DD is a little older, I would consider DL before WDW.

Overall....two thumbs up!:yay: :yay:

Glad you liked it! DL is like a second home to me and I am happy when people have great experiences there and realize it for what it is. I definitely think it's more do-able with little ones, although I have no real basis for comparison! (yet!) I was there also on Thursday and Friday and the crowd levels were awesome. You picked a wonderful time to go!

Great report! Did you eat anywhere else you would recommend??? How was the weather???

I got the Monte Carlo and Mickey beignets at the Cafe Orleans, but I wasn't super impressed with them. I ate a lot of "cart" food.

The weather was cool, particularly after the sun went down. Mid-40s probably. I was cold!

Im glad you had fun! I agree about DL being more managable, not that weve been to WDW. I am to freaked out to take my kids until they are much older! Its so overwhelming!

We are also waiting until our kids get a little older to do WDW....

Sounds like you had a great trip:cool1:

We were there at exactly the same time. Thursday, February 8th (but not til about 3pm) at DL, Friday at DL, but then we did Saturday at DCA. Thursday was a ghost town. It was great! Friday was fairly ghost town-ish as well. Saturday morning we did EE and TTMM which were also ghost town-ish (except for the hoards of Japanese visitors waiting to meet Mickey). Then we headed to DCA for their opening. I would say the crowds were moderate, but nothing close to what I'd call "crowded."

My comparison is WDW from last August.
