Just returned Jan 30 – Feb 4 from BWV where we had 2 studios (2029 & 2031) with a BW view. They were side by side which was very handy. We also stopped at HHI for one night on the way home which gave me an opportunity to check the place out for when I take the grandkids in July.

Boardwalk: I just love this place. It was perfect for us as we were all adults this trip. I’ve decided I like the BCV best for when I bring the kids and BWV for adult only trips.

If the CM’s I encountered hates us DVCers they certainly didn’t show it; we had a gal that was “earning her ears” and a trainer and our check in went without a hitch. They suggested that we have our MYW passes I’d already purchased at the Disney Store put on our room keys by Guest Services without me asking or even knowing that could be done. There was some confusion when I went to have it done though. The sweet gal from Morocco thought it could be done but didn’t know exactly how, so she asked a young fellow working the GS desk with her and he said it couldn’t be done. She went to the back room and came out with the same response. She was sure of herself though, and tried it and got it to work. It was nice having them together, as things were a little confusing to my aunt & uncle on their first visit so at least they weren’t confused over which card to use for what.

The Boardwalk itself was in pretty good condition. There were walls up out on the Boardwalk in front of the candy store where they were replacing boards and another boarded up area down in front of the villas that we already knew about. The big white tent was still there. We didn’t spend a tremendous amount of time on the Boardwalk at night but were able to enjoy a couple guys doing some tricks there one night.

We were on the second floor which is where the pipe break did some damage. The ceiling all the way down to where our rooms were located was either completely gone with a sheer white cloth covering or in various stages of repair. We never encountered anyone actually working on it though. There was also a white plastic netting covering the picket fence wallpaper? below the wooden rail and it looks like some of it was damaged as well. They were fighting a mildew smell from all the water as I noticed the smell one day and later that afternoon ran into a fellow spraying air freshener to mask it. They also cleaned the hallway carpet one day while we were there. While chatting up the carpet cleaner, he mentioned that they cleaned the carpets twice a week?

Both units were in pretty good condition although there was some stains and a large rip in the sofa cushion along the edge that I saw when I removed the cushions to pull out the bed. There was an obvious red crayon under the table that would be hard to miss and the French doors to the balcony weren’t cleaned. I let Dad have the bed and I took the pull out and having slept on a couple pull outs at BCV, I found the pull out at BWV not as comfortable. I felt the bar on this one and haven’t on the ones at BCV. This could be that they’re older, I don’t know.

We brought along a queen sized air mattress to put on the fold out in my aunt & uncles (late 70’s) room since they’re used to separate beds and I was afraid whoever got the pull out would be uncomfortable, it worked out great and my aunt slept well. I didn’t go over my aunt & uncle’s studio very well but they said one of the trash cans was practically full when they first moved in, but I didn’t learn this until I told them on the fourth day that it was trash & towel day. Their remote wasn’t working so I called engineering and it was replaced/working when we returned that night.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Boardwalk very much. We didn’t visit the Bakery as we brought breakfast stuff from home but we did have a big breakfast at Spoodles, a first for me, one morning and it was enjoyed by all. I don’t believe they do a big breakfast business as the waitress commented about it, so if you can, go to breakfast there on your next visit. It would be a shame for the Boardwalk to lose it due to lack of business.

Hilton Head Island: What a beautiful resort this is! We arrived a bit later than I had planned so I didn’t get to do a whole lot of exploring there, but loved what I saw. Can’t wait for July! We had a 2BR on cash $135 and were in building 19, #1911. We did check out the Beach House and ocean area and liked what we saw. I didn't realize that we would be going through another development to get to it though, but had no problems getting in with the parking permit.

The unit was just adorable and clean. I did have to report that the ice maker wasn’t working and the master bath sink was clogged so hopefully they fixed that before the next guests arrive. We ate dinner at the Kingfisher and it was very good. We arrived early and starving and the waitress pointed out the early bird specials. We all got shrimp dinners and they were huge shrimp and lots of them. We actually hated to leave there and wished we had a couple more days to relax and enjoy the place.

I can see why folks hate to leave the resort once there though, as we found the traffic to be pretty bad on the island. I was all excited to get to the resort once we arrived on the island and had to wait another 30 minutes just to get to the resort. I dread seeing what it's like in the summer time. I can't see us wanting to do very much island exploring in that traffic. I understand the idea of having the sand colored buildings that sort of blend into the landscape but I would think that it's hard to find places when all the buildings look alike. Just something to get used to I guess.

That’s about all that comes to mind. I hope this helps in your planning.

Thanks for your great report. We liked HH so much when we stayed there one night in summer 2003 on our way back from a DCL cruise that we added on there this past October.

My 2 very favorite resorts combined into the perfect trip :) Be careful, I am another victim of a quick stay at HHI that resulted in TWO add-ons at HH!

Thanks for the report.

Thanks, jennymouse! But lo -- no tales of ECVs-of-Fire racing through EPCOT? :( Have you got a more detailed report on the Reports Board?

Just wondering!

And thanks for the HHI "preview"! We have 1 week booked in early August and I am SOOOO excited! DH is very reluctant to use our points ANYWHERE but WDW... even though he loves the beach (AND he can park near the villa, so what's not to love?!?) The kids are more excited about it than he is -- but are puzzled, too ("So, it's Disney, but there's no park? And no characters? I don't get it!") I'm hoping for big success despite their initial trepidation... in fact, I go back to work full time right after that trip, so if an add-on bug bites us, I wouldn't mind scratching the itch wiht my new income, if ya get my drift! I think some HHI pts would be a great compliment to our BWV pts! (That is, if I can convince DH that HHI isn't pre-destined to get terminated by a hurricane and ooze off into the Atlantic....)

THanks again and glad you had a good trip!

You thought HH was crowded? In early February?

ROTFLOL :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

When will you be there in July? I might be able to give you some tips depending on which day of the week and time of day you'll be arriving.

gopherit, I've got several ECV and other stories to tell but I'll be doing a trip report on the TR board soon. My DGD10 is having a hard time understanding the Disney but no characters/rides thing about HHI too. As a matter of fact, she spent the night with me last night and on the way to taking her to school this morning we were talking about HHI and she's like "It's Disney right? No rides, or characters?" She just went on the Disney Cruise with her other grandparents in November so I told her it'd kinda be like the cruise except on land with attivities and the beach.

dis-happy, we arrived around 3:30 on a Friday afternoon so yes, there was lots of traffic. I know it's got to be much worse when we go in July. We're going the third week of July probably arriving on Sunday. HHI reminds me of Gatlinburg, TN, with that bumper to bumper slow moving traffic on the main drag. I think we'll just be sure to have everything we need and stay at the resort until we leave. For our first trip, I think we'll be able to find plenty to do just staying at the resort. Hopefully.

Hi jennymouse,

That 278 can be a real mess. On Friday afternoon I would have expected more off-island traffic than on-island, but it sounds like it was bad both directions.

You'll still be in high season in July, but at least avoiding July 4th week, which is a plus. When you drive in, there are some alternate routes from 95 so that you can by-pass about half of 278, however, you will have an advantage coming on a Sunday. Most rentals begin and end on Saturday, so that is the real crush day.

The resort is nice, but have fun exploring some other places----as it is in WDW, getting up and out early is more than half the battle. This is true for shopping, parking at the beach, seeing things, and eating out (plus you get the advantage of early bird specials in most of the restaurants, 5-6 pm)!

If you would like a free gate pass to Sea Pines when you are there, pm me a couple of weeks before. You will want to visit the Lighthouse in Harbor Town, it is the symbol of HH.

I love, love, love HH, it is our second home. Glad you're going and hope you have a wonderful trip!!!!

Glad you had a good time in HHI. Those of you that can time your arrival to the island, try to let normal rush hour patterns be your guide. morning, lunch, and esp. later afternoon can be tough to get through Bluffton and over the bridge. most of the time the rest of the day you can breeze on through, even in July.
