Just returned from a 9 day Disney trip! Here are my thoughts....

As someone who recently had a double hip replacement and is going to the world on Thursday and has ordered a scooter at considerable expense,I took offense to the comments. I have always been a very active person , am not overweight but have the misfortune to have severe osteoarthritis. I wish I could walk without pain like i used to but I can't. walk amile in someone elses shoes and you might have a little compassion for people who try to enjoy themselves despite having to live with constant pain. I dread needing to go on the bus so will probably just visit parks that I can motor to from the boardwalk. If I had the courage to try the buses I would hope people would not give me the evil eye because I want my family on the same bus. Luckily I am someone who doesn't give pay attention to what others think. I do what I can to be with my family but I can see how it might keep others from using a scooter .

You can ride to DHS and roll into epcot from boardwalk. But can you make it to MK through epcot and using the monorail? Just curious how the monorail works for the ecv. I was with my mother in wheelchair, my brother and sister in law were also in wheel chairs (car accident), and it was a tough trip because always felt we were messing up others vacations. We never rode the monorail.

Not to hijack the thread into what the OP had intended it to be, but I witnessed an abuse of the wheelchair deal last trip.

I was waiting in line (just like a few hundred other people) for The Laugh Floor when a teenage girl who had a bandage on her ankle got pushed in. Not a cast, not any kind of legit looking damage...an ACE bandage on her one ankle. She was in a wheelchair. Didn't look to be in any real pain, but who am I to judge. I'm OK with this at this point becuase hey..maybe this girl took a header in the park and didn't want her trip ruined.

This is where it got a little nutty. When asked by the CM "how many in your party?", her response was 21.

21 freakin' teenage girls/young adult chaperones went right to the front of the line in front of everyone else down the right hand side of the queue.

Even the CM was a little taken back by the whole thing.

Haven't been on the monorail with someone in a scooter yet, but I would think it would be easier than getting on a bus.
You don't have to fold up your strollers when getting on the monorail because there is so much room, so I would assume that you can just roll into the monorail no problem.
Plus, there are how many different compartments in each monorail? Not like a bus, ya know... So if there are 2 parties with scooters, you are just taking up two compartments, rather than two busses....

I did notice quite a few people walking with knee braces this week. These were expensive medical devices with screws and such.

I was amazed at the courage of these individuals.

Glad you had a great trip! I've got a few questions for you if you have time. We are traveling with a 4 yr old boy and 2.5 yr old daughter in January. Did you do all 4 parks...if so, which parks did they like best? If you did Epcit, did they enjoy it and would you do it again with toddlers? Also, any rides that your 4 yr old didn't like or were too scary?

We are doing CRT for an 1145 lunch. Was it really that bad?? And how long did lunch take? I'm hoping it's under an hour. I keep flip flopping on this one and can't decide if I should cancel it or not. I'm not set on CRT but we wanted to have TS to take a break from park touring especially if the weather is cold. My daughter will love Cinderella and Snow White but she's probably too young to remember much of it and my son would love the sword and think the castle is cool but that's about it. We are already doing C. Palace so that would mean Liberty Tree whose menu I didn't love or Plaza.

Thanks again for any thoughts!

Getting on the monorail using a scooter is much easier than getting on a bus. They put a small ramp in the entrance of one of the cars and the person can get right on. Easy peasy compared to strapping into the bus, however the time it takes may be more. But in theory you absolutely can as long as you have PH on your ticket.

I actually am considering getting a scooter for my trip next year due to my medical issues, and was figuring I would go through EPCOT from BW and monorail it to MK (if the plan works out that way with adr's and park hours and EMH), that way I only have to worry about using the bus with the scooter going to AK.

To the OP, thanks for the info on TREX my kids are interested in going there after a Disney Store visit. Glad your family had a great time.

I am so glad you asked!!! We were there for 9 days so we did go to all 4 parks. I would say Animal Kingdom had the least to do for the kids. They did love the Safari and the 2 treks that are there. It was so hot that day that we only stayed into the early afternoon. We didn't return there. I would say stick with Magic Kingdom and HS. The kids LOVED Playhouse Disney and the little Mermaid. He wasn't a big fan of the Norway ride, too dark. They did like the inovations and spaceship earth. We walked around the countries later at night while they slept :cool1:

My 4 year old did all the rides he met the height on, 40 inches. He loved Big Thunder Mt, Star Tours, Tea Cups, Race cars(he could "drive") toy story mania and Sorain. He didn't like the "dark" rides...Haunted Mansion, Pirates. He didn't get sick on any rides! Luckily my husband can handle them, I cannot. My 1 year old enjoyed the rides also, especially the "merry go round" He also really really liked the 3D Muppets and Philharmagic! Sorry for bad spelling.

We really did like CRT. I must have been looking at the dinner menu. There were 4 choices for lunch. I had the chicken, it was good. My husband like the short ribs, more like roast beef. Do not get the veggie dish, the server actually told me not to. I thought for 2 Table service credits there would have been more choices and more food. It was good chicken with a side of maccoroni. We had free dining. My boy loved the princesses!! I think I would try a dinner next time just to see the food differences. We were seated quickly, but got there 15 min in advance. You have to stand in line to check in. We got our food quickly. I have an impatient 1 year old and all the food places I listed gave us quick service and good service. We loved Crystal Palace!!! Tusker House at AK had a great breakfast!! But the picture they take cost $30, yikes, didn't get it.

Hope this helps! Any other thoughts I would love to share! We had a great trip!
Hope you have a great time!:goodvibes

Go!!! We sat in the room by the ice room in the back, sorry I don't remember what it was called. They do a meteor shower every 15 min that's pretty cool! I would def. go back! Food was great!!

you only had to use 1 table service credit for Le Cellier? I thought they were 2 credits now? :confused3

That's correct, 1 table service credit for lunch. The menus on-line looked pretty similiar for lunch and dinner. It was plenty of food! We plan to eat there twice next time it was that good!

I am always amazed that very able bodied people can admit that they are exhausted at the end of the day, and yet not be able to see that people not in prime A1 condition might need a little help to walk several miles while also standing in one spot for 30-45 minutes.
We were there from 9/24 til 10/2. We did not see any more scooters than usual.

I was there from 9/29-10/2 and I guess since it was just super crowded, that it appeared to be more there to me.. :goodvibes just as it appeared to be more strollers too.. and as I said, with that many forms of wheeled transportation (chairs and strollers) Disney should look into some sort of one way side of the street (left/right) walking... it would make it much safer for everyone involved. :flower3:

Since it was a group of teenaged girls, it’s very possible that they were a dance or cheerleading group and the girl using the wheelchair sprained her ankle (an Ace bandage is very appropriate for some injuries - you don’t get a cast for a sprain).

At Laugh Floor, everyone who is in the line at that point is getting into that show, so it doesn’t really matter if they got into the right lane or the left lane. They still got into the same show.

A ‘party’ for WDW for guests with disABILITIES is a total of 6 (5 plus the person with a disability). I have seen CMs tell people with as few as 8 in their party that they need to break into smaller groups. So, I am very surprised the CM didn’t do that.
The reason for having guests with wheelchairs go into the right lane is that there are only specific places where a wheelchair can be placed inside the theater. The CM leads the guests with wheelchairs into the theater and shows them where they are to park.
And, guess what, they only allow as many people with wheelchairs and ECVs into the line as there are spots. So, it is possible that they will run out of wheelchair spots when there are still seats in the theater.

At The Land, there is a wheelchair lane, well marked by signs and pavement markings. People with wheelchairs and ECVs do try to use it, but it is often full of people walking who did not bother to look at the signs.

At Laughing Floor the line on the right is for handicap entry to the show plus friends/family. A wheelchair cannot go into the stadium seating, that's why there's a separate line. The people in the HC line sit up front, and never get to participate in the show. There's spaces for wheelchairs/ECVs and benches for others. Most people would prefer to sit in the nice stadium seating. You get a kink in your neck watching the show from the front. I don't know why this bothered you.

All-in-all it's easier to enter the monorail with a scooter. HOWEVER, you have to accelerate a little to get up the ramp, and in a few short seconds you have to stop accelerating or you hit the wall on the other side. I know this personally. The real fun is entering a monorail where the other side door is open. I haven't seen it yet, but I bet there's scooters entering the monorail car and going out the other side. If there are 2 scooters, they aren't put in two cars, they are all put in one car. I have been in a monorail car with a total of 4 scooters plus people sitting. No one had room for their legs, and I could feel the breath of the scooter driver behind me. It was very uncomfortable.

The hard part of the scooter-on-the monorail is getting off. The CM places a portable ramp up to the floor of the monorail. The ramp isn't as wide as the doorway. To exit, you have to back up, keeping your wheels straight. This is very hairy. You worry that you could be at an angle and drive yourself off the side of the ramp. Again, I haven't seen this, but the potential is there. I feel like I should get a Disney congratulations button after each trip.

To OP: Writing about scooters at the bus stop is OK. Your badly-informed opinion of scooter-users fakin' it and making you wait, well, not OK. You wrote as if able-bodied folks were your only readers. Sorry, us handicapped folks are here too, and your comments weren't written in the spirit of Goodwill. Plenty of handicapped people stay at Pop. There's 2880 rooms there. Sometimes, the only way a family can afford to take their handicapped relative to WDW, is to rent a couple rooms at a Value and then rent a scooter for them. And I think that's nice, that these families take their handicapped loved one along for the fun. I know it must slow the family down a lot, but the happy memories for the kids and the handicapped person is priceless.

An ever-increasing group of Baby Boomers is starting to use mobility equipment; I am a perfect example. I now need a scooter full-time. Please find a way to understand. :grouphug:

I don't mean to keep wheeled transportation away.. I mean everyone going the same direction. It would just make walking, riding in a chair and pushing a stroller easier on all. When the parks are crowded, you get so many chairs, strollers and people all going in different directions that it does get dangerous. Those ECV's can really hurt a small child.

I do know where you are talking about and understand what you are saying. I think people are going down that because you have groups of people walking slow, so others use that as a "fast lane".. I have seen exactly what you are talking about.. I think now that the strollers aren't allowed to park up there, there may not be as many people going thru there anymore..

My husband and I along with are two sons, 4 and 1 and extended family were at Disny from 9-23 till 10-1. Here are my thoughts about the trip.

We stayed at POP Century. We have never stayed here before and found we did enjoy the resort. The food court was very busy but we really never waited much in line and were able to find a table. Our rooms were kept clean however, no towel animals :(

Scooters....need I say more? Wow. I do not remember having to wait for so many scooters!! I think people are taking advatage of them. I understand getting on first when you have a medical reason but I don't think I should have to wait for the others to board before me along with their family. One time there were 5 scooters waiting!!! Awful!

I thought the parks were busy but we didn't wait much for rides. We waited 70 min for Splash Mountain. When we got to the fork where the fastpass meets the stand by, the CM took probably 50 fastpass to 10 stand by if not more. There needs to be rules. I understand they have a fast pass but you can't forget about those that don't.

Dining....T-Rex was AWESOME!! Wish it was on the dining plan! I highly reccommend eating here! Crystal Palace was very good! We LOVED Canada! We ate lunch here and used 1 table service. I would eat here again, if not twice next time. Hollywood and Vine was alright. I think I would try Mama Melrose. We liked the Fantasmic package, didn't have to wait in that long line. CRT...not so great. It was fun seeing all the princesses but the food was not good. We had lunch here and the menu choices, I think 4, were not good. The portions were small. I think I would try dinner, perhaps a better menu? Not worth 2 table services. We really enjoyed the characters at Tusker House, I would eat there again! Sci Fi was very good this time also! The shrimp was so so good and the milkshakes were nice and think! Ohana's was great also! Over all, we got in right away when we arrived and our food came very quickly! We had great service at all locations.

We had a great trip except for the heat and humidity, wow. Can't wait to plan our next one! Any thoughts or questions let me know! :thumbsup2

We were there the same dates and agree with the crowds. We were at the 9/27 mnsshp and was our first halloween trip. WOW the crowds were everywhere even during the first parade. We stayed for the second parade at 10:30 and we were 3 deep in the crowds. We did wait in line for the 7 dwarfs at 6pm and we're done by 7:15pm. Probably will try Christmas time next visit.
T-Rex was also great. We had a res for 7pm but we were able to get in at 5:30 without a wait (lucky I guess).
Hollywood & Vine was great selection of buffet food and desserts and kids had a ball dancing with characters.
CRT was good for lunch. The beef was excellent and desserts were good. Service was excellent but you have to be good since they know they get a really nice tip. lol
Tusker House is awesome and I'm glad they are adding the lunch for characters now.
Now I'm really wanting to try Ohana now....everyone has great reviews and we will try next trip.
Glad you had a great trip and I know what you mean about the hot/humid weather but it beats 45 and rain now in OH...

I didn't want to comment on the scooter subject again, (not the main point of my trip) but I guess I have to. I meant no offense to anyone in a scooter/motorized chair. I am very thankful to be able to have the ability to walk. I just didn't remember there being that many there since my last trip. No harm intended, just putting down my thoughts.
