Good Day,

We are looking to plan a DW trip in winter 2026 and one of the main focus points for us will be to ensure that Typhoon Lagoon is open.

I know there is normally a closure for Typhoon lagoon but can't seem to find any updates.

Historically is Typhoon lagoon closed in January to March (these are the months we are currently looking to plan).

Part 2 of my question- additionally for a big family trip we are also looking at December 2026 or December 2027 trip to DW, historically has Typhoon been closed during this time?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Do you want to go to Typhoon lagoon in wintertime though?

I mean, you could have a fluke high 70s day, but what if its 50s? I don't want you planning a trip SOLELY for Typhoon Lagoon and then missing out.....

Typically TL is closed Nov - March.

However for 2025. TL did not open until May 1st then BB went down for a quick adjustment, and it reopened on May 21st. BB is scheduled to remain open through September 7th.

This will leave TL open from September 8th - ? this year. After that WDW has only announced that both TL, BB will be open next year 2026 for the Summer season.

Check back to see what WDW decides to do going forward.

Not sure either. I haven’t seen which water park will remain open during your visit time.

It's pretty coolmost days in December. Sure, there are some warm days, but last year at Christmas time it was in the mid 20s. So I wouldn't expect the water parks to be open. In fact, even in January last year, the pools were all closed at Universal and many at Disney for a week in January, with the temperatuer about 25F at night for three or four days (maybe longer). Orlando is in Central Florida, not tropical and an often have cold snaps.

Ha ha thank you for the concern and the possible cold weather! However before the pandemic we have ventured to the Disney water parks in December and I do remember one time we took the bus from Pop century to Typhoon lagoon. It was also going to Animal Kingdom. TL was the first stop and only my family got off the bus and this day that was hovering below 70F. The bus driver asked are you from up north or something...indeed we are crazy canucks lol

Thank you for the feedback Dave! Outside of the Disney website are there any other platforms you recommend to see if they post updates on the Water parks being closed or not in advance? Thank you

Well if you check here on DIS you will get the latest information (I might be biased). There really is no real advanced notice. One Water park will be scheduled to be open. Again for 2026, Disney has announced both TL & BB will be open for "Summer 2026" but we don't have an announcement of what the date range will be.

As far as closing due to cold weather that is normally a day to day thing or for extreme low temperatures Disney may schedule the Water park, and even resort pools in small groups. Maybe 1-3 days at a time.

ETA: still learning big words like "days"

You could look at Touring Plans. They don't have any advanced knowledge of what's open and closed but use historical trends to make predictions. Unfortunately though, they only predict a year out and December 2026 won't be available until Dec of this year.

Just be aware there were several days this past January that the open waterpark (BB) was closed due to cold weather. Many guests who wanted to use their free waterpark day never got a chance.

MLK week this year was awful. Temps basically never got above the 40s-50s.
