Just returned from a great 2 day stay at BCV in a studio. It was a trip without our 4 year old so we got to do more than we normally would. The magic was certainly there but we do have some issues. They seem to have new heat/ac controls in the rooms. We stayed at BCV in May and they didn't have them then. They are the digital type. Problem lies with this: they are programmed to not be set any lower than 68 degrees. 68 degrees is not cool enough for us, especially at night. We spent 2 rather sleepless nights here. We called down and had maintenance come up to check it out. Everything is working fine, he stated. He spoke little English and couldn't answer my question of why the 68 degree limit. I also think that they may have sensors on them that shut it off when no one is in the room. Problem with that is they shut off when you are sleeping and there is no movement. He never did answer my question about this. He just kept saying give it 20 minutes. This seems like a nit pick point but being comfortable in a room is very important. This little cost savings measure by DVC makes me want to reconsider my long term ownership of DVC. Anyone know about this? Why cut corners like this, members pay the dues? I certainly don't see dues going down. The other thing we noticed is the carpets in the hallway are filthy. The reason for this is mousekkeping. They throw the garbage in the hall on the rugs. If the bag leaks, the sludge leaks all over the carpets. One, throwing garbage in the hall for hours at a time looks horrible. Two, they are ruining the carpets. Thanks for letting me vent. We certainly had a great trip but we were not thrilled with these 2 things. Have I given DVC too much credit? Are they cutting too many corners????? Anyone know who and where I can voice these concerns to? Limiting the thermostat is fair but it need to be lower than 68. I mean you don't want the temp. going down to 58 or 59. 68 just doesn't get it done for us, we like it cool not luke warm. I've never seen these things at Marriott timeshare proerties. We love being on site but I may reconsider any further purchases or may even sell if I continue to have these issues. Comfortable nights rest shouldn't be too much to ask on vacation.

I'm not sure that the regulation of the temperature to 68 degrees has been true all the way along, but the feature with respect to only kicking in when someone is in the room and moving is something that has been discussed since Beach Club opened. We found that use of the ceiling fan helped a lot, but we, too, like it cooler than 68 at night.

We were at the BCV in January, and 68 was way too warm for us, too. I called and asked that they come up and set the thermostat lower, which they did. (I usually have to have this done there, as 68 seems to be the norm at the BCV for some reason.) It then went down to 64, which was much better.

I believe that the hallway carpets in BCV have reached the end of their usable life cycle and are being pulled and replaced.

Maybe you could buy one of those monorail trains and let it run in the room all day and night so it "thinks" someone is there. ;)

The carpeting is being changed this year, I believe (along with new mattress'). It is becoming very common that hotels set their a/c units to turn off (or down) when no one is in the room and/or when the slider is opened. Not sure about the 68 degree issue, but I remember thinking it wouldn't go down either. We, being from Seattle, don't use a/c (out here we have mother nature) and we had our a/c going, the doors opened and moisture dripping from everything! Should of seen the room (this was in October)! We learned real quick.

I have heard the same complaint about the BCVs since they opened. Some people buy a helium balloon and put it in front of the thermostat. When the balloon moves in the breeze, the thermostat senses movement and turns on. I agree though, that I would not like it.

The carpets are probably due for a change. DVC is usually pretty good about renovating, so it may coming soon. I do agree with you, though, that I hate to be in a hotel style DVC and see the stuff in the hallway.

Dave, do you own at BCV? We have never stayed there, so I have no real experience with the thermostats at that resort, but we have never had that problem at OKW, and we too like it cooler than that.

We were also there in Jan. and also like it cool. We had a 2 bedroom dedicated and could not get it lower than 68 degrees. I would push the fan button on the thermostat on high and that would help, but then it would go back to where it was. Our bedroom did stay pretty cool at night with the ceiling fan on, but the living room never got as cool. The 2nd bedroom was way too warm. It was fine with my in-laws, but I couldn't even walk in that room. The room temperatures were very inconsistent.

We have been to DW in the Summer and 68 is comfortable for us. The temperature outside is in the 90's so maybe that is the difference. What is the temperature in Florida now? I'm sorry but I don't see the problem. :confused3 I wish that I lived in 68 degree weather all year round. Ceilng fans are great to help cool you off.

Could someone please tell me if the a/c is like this at all of the DVC resorts or just the Beach Club? Someone mentioned putting a helium balloon in front of the sensor so there is movement. Any idea where the motion sensor is (is it obviously visable or hidden) so we place the balloon in the right place? I agree 68 is way to warm for us also. Thanks in advance!

While I agree that having a 68 degree minimum is slightly ridiculous, I can NOT imagine keeping it colder than that. Wow, that would be very cold.

Depends on what you are used to. We keep our house at 64 or below at all times during the winter (at least in terms of the thermostat--it might get warmer some days due to the sun) and find it very hard to sleep when it gets much warmer than that. In Florida, the humidity gets so high that 68 with no air movement can get stifling in a room. If the air was constantly running and it was 68 with low humidity, that might be OK.

We stayed a SSR in Oct. I like it COLD at night to sleep (my wife puts up with it). We had no problem with keeping it Cool. :cool2:

Wow! I absolutely freeze when the thermostat is set at 68. I change it to 70 when my husband isn't looking and just hope he falls asleep before he realizes what I did.

I'm so glad I read this! We stayed at the Cont. last year and they also had the movement sensor and it was awful! We got so hot at night. DH has to have it very cool to sleep well. We were going to try BCV on our next trip, but I may be rethinking that. We haven't had that issue at the other DVC properties.

There was a thread months back...maybe last spring.... about how you can "change" the settings!!!

Anyone remember that and how it was done??? :confused3

We did have this problem at OKW before. Woke up very stuffy around 4 am. During the day, it didn't seem to be a problem, but at night (lack of movement ?), the a/c seemed to shut off ? It did this all week. We prefer a cooler room to sleep.
I think it's a valid vent Daitcher.

Marriott timeshares don't have inside hallways with carpet. They are condo style like SSR and OKW. With concrete, you definitely don't have to worry about dirty carpet. That could be a plus for staying at SSR and OKW.

I've noticed the carpets really take a beating on wear and tear in the halls at BCV and BWV. I didn't notice it as much at VWL (probably because the carpet is dark and doesn't show the dirt like the light carpets at BWV and BCV).

We haven't had a thermostat at BCV thread in a long time! This used to be a regular feature here. I figured they got them fixed.
