Good points, Dave. A guest should be able to determine his own comfort level in a room, whether it be 80 degrees, or 50. Having someone else tell me I should be comfortable enough at an arbitrarily set temperature would frost me as well. Also, I never thought about the garbage bags on the carpets, but you're right. This can't be good for the carpets.
When we've stayed at the WDW resorts that utilize a/c locks on the settings, whether it be DVC or not, maintenance has always been pretty good about coming up and overriding the controls for us. I hope that maintenance hasn't been instructed not to do this anymore.

This would have solved the problem. Also the ceiling fan was so wobbly we couldn't turn it up on high.
but I would like the option of having the room at a comfortable temperature for our family, whatever WE DECIDE that is, not
