Just returned BCV/ HAVE ISSUES!!!

Good points, Dave. A guest should be able to determine his own comfort level in a room, whether it be 80 degrees, or 50. Having someone else tell me I should be comfortable enough at an arbitrarily set temperature would frost me as well. Also, I never thought about the garbage bags on the carpets, but you're right. This can't be good for the carpets.

When we've stayed at the WDW resorts that utilize a/c locks on the settings, whether it be DVC or not, maintenance has always been pretty good about coming up and overriding the controls for us. I hope that maintenance hasn't been instructed not to do this anymore.

Hmmmm? While we have not had the issue at OKW, it sounds like others have. I wonder if they are replacing the older thermastats with newer ones? Perhaps a balloon is necessary at ALL resorts now!

Wow! I absolutely freeze when the thermostat is set at 68. I change it to 70 when my husband isn't looking and just hope he falls asleep before he realizes what I did.

We had this very problem when staying at the Polynesian. I didn't know any better and suffered through it until I read a tip here on the Dis Boards. Not sure if it will work the same everywhere but it is certainly worth a try but I can tell you it worked at the Poly. Thanks to the Dis Member that Posted it!

On the thermostat, push the power button and the down arrow (that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it, moving around or not. You may have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours.

We like to sleep with it cold in the room so I really only needed this for the nights. It was great not to wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat.

We were at the BCV in January, and 68 was way too warm for us, too. I called and asked that they come up and set the thermostat lower, which they did. (I usually have to have this done there, as 68 seems to be the norm at the BCV for some reason.) It then went down to 64, which was much better.

Thanks, why didn't they offer me this option when I called down? This would have solved the problem. Also the ceiling fan was so wobbly we couldn't turn it up on high.

Dave, do you own at BCV? We have never stayed there, so I have no real experience with the thermostats at that resort, but we have never had that problem at OKW, and we too like it cooler than that.

No, my points are at SSR but I really like BCV and usually stay there.

We have been to DW in the Summer and 68 is comfortable for us. The temperature outside is in the 90's so maybe that is the difference. What is the temperature in Florida now? I'm sorry but I don't see the problem. I wish that I lived in 68 degree weather all year round. Ceilng fans are great to help cool you off.

Problem is this, I bought in for about $35,00 cash and pay my annual dues every year. Call me crazy but I would like the option of having the room at a comfortable temperature for our family, whatever WE DECIDE that is, not DVC.

I am not trying to be mean, but Dave you stated that you own points at SSR. You also stated that you pay your annual dues. The only issue with that is that your annual dues pay for the operating expenses @ SSR, while my dues will pay for those at BCV.

Now, don't get me wrong, I like it cool also. I also appreciate DVC trying to maintain a certain level of 'cooling expense' at the current prices that we are seeing in the energy market.

As I said, you are entitled to your opinion and a comfortable night sleep, but please don't say how you are paying for that comfort.

I guess what I didn't understand was how much air conditioning is comfortable when the temperature outside is only in the 50-65 degree range. I'm sorry that you were uncomfortable but I can understand how Disney is trying to control costs not cut corners. I think if the ceiling fan had worked properly you would not have been so uncomfortable. I hope that you are much more comfortable on your next trip.

Thumbs Up! The last thing I want on Vacation (or anywhere else) is the thermostat Nazi telling me what temperature is best for me. I like it cold enough to hang meat in the room that I sleep in.

I'm not sure this would have made too much difference at all. Though I've never stayed at BCV, I know the stuffy room problem we had at OKW was not helped by the ceiling fan (which was working perfectly). The thermostat def shut off during the night. I woke up a couple times, feeling uncomfortable, and had to keep lowering the thermostat. But it wouldn't cool to what I set it at. I'm with those that say we should be able to sleep in whatever temperature works for us---not what Disney thinks is the proper temp for us.

Appreciate the cost cutting all you want. It is unexceptable IMO. As far as where my dues go, I actually stayed on cash this trip so your theory and angry rant goes out the window. My $320 a night for a dinky studio should at least cover a comfortable room. . When is the last time you saw your dues going down at BCV? How's that cost cutting working for you? I will be filing complaints with anybody that I can. I'm sure you'll love to hear that I will be staying at BCV again on Feb. 27th for 5 nights in a 1 bedroom. From the tone of your post I'd guess you are of the group that would prefer we all stay at our "home". Sorry ED, I'll stay wherever I want. If this temperature thing can't be worked out we will be selling our DVC. It will also be the end of recommending it to family and friends. How could anyone recommend a resort where a guest might be uncomfortable in there room? Thanks for your angry rant.

As I mentioned in a previous post on this thread, we, too, were uncomfortable with the forced 68 degree setting, until engineering lowered it at my request. The ceiling fan did not help the situation.

BTW, I own points at the BCV, and if I'm paying dues, you can bet I'm going to be comfortable in my room. The thermostat would go no lower than 68, but at times the temperature in the room was in the 72-73 degree range (even though set at 68), which for us was way too high.

Dave, if you call Engineering and ask that they lower the temp, I'm sure you'll be fine. (I've had to do this on most of my visits there.) Enjoy!

The way DVC works is that except for a 4 month booking advantage, all members are equal. That means if I own at VWL but want to stay at BCV, I'm entitled to do that. And if I find the room temperature to be too warm to keep my sides of beef frozen, I'm perfectly within my rights to request a temperature setting I find more acceptable. I would hate to think you're suggesting that only people who pay dues at a certain resort are entitled to be comfortable, because that's just not the way DVC works. Within the context of the DVC system, and after the 4 month booking window has expired, it's irrelevant where a member pays their dues. Don't forget, you have the same rights to stay at VWL and crank the a/c if you want to feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Diane - I was at OKW in a studio near Peninsular Road bus stop last June. It had one of those new thermostats, and I was miserable. You know, the humidity makes the temps seem so much hotter. This was the first time in 12 years I had one of those 'new' type thermostats. Silly me, I never thought of calling Maintenance to reset it to my comfort zone. We are leaving tomorrow for the Beach Club, and even though I had not thought about it being a problem in February, now I am a bit worried! We like to sleep with it cool also.
