I just reserved APA for our Aug. HH trip & I am thrilled. In our area, the lottery uses a song "If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a house..." I always sing, "If a won a million dollars, I'd quit my job & go to culinary arts school...". I'm really looking forward to this dining experience, maybe a new HH family tradition.

Sueg:

You are just down the road from us. We plan on scheduling Chef Gordon for when we are in HH the final week of the year. Let us know how it turns out for you!

We did "A Private Affair" exactly a month ago today. It was wonderful! I highly recommend the crabcakes as your appetizer. They were the best I have ever had. Enjoy!

We are doing A Private Affair on May 31 - we have already finalized our menu choices with Chef Gordon - he is great and so easy to work with! We can't wait for our special dinner overlooking the Atlantic Ocean! I'll let you know how great it was when we get back!

(P.S. We're getting the crabcakes!)

I just downloaded the sample menu. "Problem" is that everything sounds sooo goood that I want one of each. What is the deal w/ the wine? Is it included w/ the price? Is it really three glasses? I'm not a great drinker, never regained my sea-legs after having the kids. Three glasses of wine & you'll read about me crawling from the Beach House to our 2 BD. Oh I just can't wait til Aug!

The wine & champagne (if you choose it) is included with the dinner. We were even offered refills with each course.

How do you book Private Affair? Do you call MS or call HH direct? We are going July15-20 and would love to do this.

Call the resort directly. They can provide information about booking the event. It needs to be booked with Chef Gordon.

Availability is very limited (one family per evening), so reservations are suggested.

The dinner is wonderful, we enjoyed it last fall and have reserved again this summer.

I really must have missed something.
When I read something about a "Private Affair", I spilled my soda trying to open the thread!!!:D
Anyway, now it seems like a nice restaraunt in the HH area, correct? Could you explain more about it?
THANX

"A Private Affair" is available at the HH resort itself. It is offered by the resort's own Chef Gordon. It was offered in a GV, but now takes plave at the Beach House.

Here is a link to more information about this excellent program!

How formal is the reservation system? Chef Gordon offered a date that was convenient. I e-mailed him accepting the date & asking if I need to send a deposit. I never heard back. Should I be looking for a confirming e-mail? Or are thing just a little more mellow once you're in the low country?

You will hear back from him - and there is no deposit required! It's pretty laid back. Now you just have to decide what you want for your meal!!! There are lots of yummy choices! We had a hard time deciding!

Either its a great coincidence or Chef Gordon reads that DIS (I guess both are possible) but I just got an e-mail from Chef Gordon, apologizing for the delay which was attributable to a change in administrative assistants. You're right TXMommy no deposit required. We're all set for our Aug. Private Affair.:D :D

HOORAY, sueg! Congratulations! As soon as we get back I'll let you know how ours went - only 1 week until our PA!

Hi

For those who have done this - we have reserved PA for our July trip and just wondering - if it's just two of you can you each choose something different for the appetizers and entrees or does it need to be the same?

I had reserved PA back in April - does anyone know when the price increase went into effect?

Thanks!
Kristen

I think the price increase went in effect around late March. I had booked PA back around January for a mid-April reservation under the old prices. They did charge us the new price even though we had booked it way before the increase. The meal was so incredible that it did not bother us. It was well worth it.

The price increase went into effect early in March - I'm not sure exactly what date, tho. Anyone with reservations prior to the price increase will pay the old prices, the way I understand it. I made my reservations in February for our May 31 PA, and Chef Gordon told me that the price increase would not affect us.

Don't be surprised to pay the new prices. We had booked under the old prices -- we had booked it many months before, and still had to pay the increased price.

The change in pricing suggests to me that I reconsider DS(8) as a fourth participant in PA. We used to joke that he only ate 10 foods (which included cookies & pretzels!) While he has improved, there is really not one thing that he enjoys on the sample menu. Unfortunately, he may be happier w/ a Happy Meal or a lunchable, a real treat for him since I deprise both & rarely agree to them. He is getting a little more daring & willing to try new things I.E. our only chicken was breaded & fried, now it can be baked or grilled w/ a little added flavoring. Since I have a few months, I'm going to wait & see. Maybe he'll have a food breakthrough in time for PA.
