Just a heads up for folks...although registration hasn't yet opened for the marathon and half-marathon, DH and I just registered for Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. We were under the impression we couldn't register until tomorrow (8 January), so this was a pleasant surprise.

The backstory for anyone who's interested: DH has been running marathons for a couple of years and wants to add the challenge of a half-marathon. I told him if he wanted to do this, I would join him, especially if this means a vacation to WDW. At this point I'm non-runner, btw, but am confident I could maintain a 16-minute pace for the half-marathon if it were held today. So I registered for both and will spend the next year training in hopes that I'll move from a walk to a shuffle and be able to finish both races.

Crazy? Yeah, that's what Disney does to me. So I'm really glad to know there are other DISers out there who are training, too.

Congrats to you on registering for the Goofy wow:scared: I am still debating on the 1/2 or full. I think I will register at the end of May. I hope registration will still be open.

I just registered for the Goofy in 2008 too. I did the Race for the Taste in 2006. It was a blast. I only imagine what the Goofy will be like. Cannot wait to see other Disers there.
Happy Training:)

I just registered, too. Did goofy in '06 and really wanted to do it this year, but a DCL cruise kind of got in the way (but in a good way). I was originally just going to do the full in '08, but then DH said he wanted to do the 1/2 and I want to do it with him. So I'm going goofy again.

Did anyone order the limited edition pin? I thought about it, but decided not to -- esp. since you can't get it till the expo. I guess after paying $225 plus processing fees I wasn't crazy about giving Disney another $8.95 of my money to hold onto for another year (I'm a little cheap that way). But I'll probably regret it later. Oh, well. I'm sure there'll be all sorts of 15 ann. merchandise at the expo.

Hi Everyone!

Well, after lurking for the past two weeks, you have all inspired me to jump in and do the Goofy in 2008. My wife is considering doing the half. I'm sure once we start following "Marathoning for Mortals" she will have the confidence to do it. She will do anything for a trip to Disney!

Disneefun, I did order the pin when I registered. Our family loves to collect pins, so this will be another one for our lanyard. I did have to laugh when I saw the option on the registration. Disney is very good at separating you from your money!

Thanks!
Dan.

When does registration Close for the half??

I want to do the 1/2, but I am not ready to register yet...

OK I did it. I registered for the Goofy. My idea is to walk the half and run the full, but we'll see what actually happens!

I ordered the pin. Actually the fact that there are pins involved is what tipped the scales for me to go ahead and register now, a year ahead of time. I'm a sucker for the Disney marketing machine that way. The only company that has an easier time getting me to readily part with my money is Apple. :surfweb:

OMG Blueroses.....the Goofy....didn't you just start training.

I would love to do the Goofy also that would be awesome. Is it possible to go from walking regularly to doing a Goofy????

Are you still doing the Minnie? DD and I have booked our room, car rental etc. Can't wait.

Congrats to all the folks who have registered for Goofy--and the half or full! You'll be my models and inspiration. Thanks to DISer word-of-mouth, I'll be picking up "Marathoning for Mortals." And hopefully the DIS will keep me accountable for training.

Disneefun, I ordered the pin. This whole 15th anniversary thing is part of what has sucked me in. Once I got past the sticker shock of registration, I figured I might as well get the pin, too. I'm not sure if my DH bought one, as he sees this as just another race. In fact, he's under the mistaken impression that we're just going to fly down to WDW on Friday for a long weekend, run the races, and fly home. Silly man....

BlueRoses...too funny. My goal is to run the half and walk the full. Maybe I'll try to follow your lead, though, as it might prevent me from backing out or whining the whole time I'm doing the full. I'm not convinced I could run both, although I'm banking on completing both.

I just ran the half on Saturday and was online signing up for Goofy this morning!! I had such a great time this weekend. I saw all the WISHers in their bright t-shirts and with their bracelets. You guys look like you had a lot of fun! I didnt know anyone running, so hopefully next year I will! So, now Im officially Goofy!

I did my first 1/2 marathon on Saturday, it was AWESOME. I registered right away for 2008. Just do it folks...it is amazing the inspiration you get to keep you going. I could never have done it anywhere but Disney and without all the people cheering on. (I'm VERY sore today however!) I left the camera at home as I didn't want to be encumbered at all..I didn't think I would finish... so I have no pics. I know the professional ones will be out soon, but did anyone take some of the sights on their way (especially the rainbow that just suddenly appeared...) it was very Disney to order up a full rainbow...

Aggh, so have I! I don't even know if I can definitely go, but if I'm not entered now I won't do it...... Help - I ran 40 minutes last night and my lungs burnt (I've had a month off from running, and have now found that that's a really bad idea) and I think I'm going to run 40 miles in one weekend!!!! I'M SO EXCITED.......

Helen...so glad you'll be back!

Anyone that hasn't already, come join us on the weekly training club threads. We have lots of folks that have already gone Goofy and can be huge sources of advice and support.

Hope to see all of you there!

:)
I'm a fairly regular exerciser even though I haven't done a race since I did a half a year and a half ago. I got hurt halfway through that run (bad training decisions on my part led up to that) but finished in 2:10. So my plan is to try to do the Minnie in somewhere around 1:35, push to bring my 1/2 down to 1:50 by fall, walk/run the Disney half in around 2:45, then shoot to run the full in 4:00.

It may be ambitious, but I figure as long as I'm flying across the country I may as well do both runs.

I think it's totally possible to go from walking regularly to doing a walk/run combination Goofy. Your husband and daughter are doing these with you right? That will be fun. I know Mr. blueroses won't be joining me. He's not a runner.

Are they offering the DVC discount for the 2008 Goofy? Is the form available yet?

That is awesome good for you. and thanks for the encouragement.

DD and I are doing the Minnie and DH and I will be there for the Marathon.

I am so excited about this. Just trying to be careful with my training, I don't want to start out with injury.

Look forward to chatting with you all.
