DDP desert option changes

We have been here since the 27th @ ASMovies. I ordered a brownie sundae and ice cream cookie sandwich earlier in our stay. I was just informed at the Food Court that those TWO options are no longer available  This may be old news, but apparetnly some "changes" have been made BOTH the CM at the ice cream station and the checkout verified this, I was told I could talk to a manager :headache:

correction, they are available, but cannot be used as a desert w/DDP and must be paid for OOP - there aare only a few "sad"choices left if you are on the DDP... a cookie, cone, etc...

This has been the case for a while, sorry you were disapointed. As of July, you could still get the brownies sundae at Mrs. Potts, in MK.

Might also check out Sports and Music to see if they still carry them. Seems like both the brownie sundae and the cookie ice cream sandwich are staples of any Disney hand dip ice cream shop. This is just another reason why we are no longer eating at Disney resorts. Seems like if you want either, you have to buy every separately. Good thing dining is free (said sarcastically).

let me clarify they are still "Available", but no longer available w/DDP - you have to pay for them OOP :( crazy sinze I already got them on the DDP earlier in our stay

Sorry I misunderstood. Thats horrible that they changed it, I'm sorry. Was that as a snack or as your dessert?

How sad and I'm hoping that somehow the info you got is wrong. We were at Music for 10 days in Sept and ordered both of those desserts on the MP.

I dislike it when they change the "rules". If they were going to change the eligible desserts etc IMO it would have been nice if they had waited until a logical time like the end of the year.

At pop century they allowed all sundaes as desserts and snack credits as of like last week hope it didnt change everywhere

I think maybe some of the restaurants are all just getting on the same page as others...last September the ice cream sandwiches were not allowed as DDP dessert or snack option at POFQ...the explanation we were given then was that it had to be a "single serving" for a DDP dessert or DDP snack item and the "ice cream sandwich is actually 3 servings" (each cookie is a serving, and the ice cream scoops are also a serving so all together, it's meant for 3)

You could get ice cream sundae with toppings like chocolate sauce for dessert or snack, though. Never asked about a brownie sundae, but I guess that would follow the pattern of whether or not something is a "single serving" since a brownie by itself is a dessert or snack item, and the ice cream by itself is a snack or dessert.

In September, we thought maybe it was one of those "change the menu for free dining time" like some have reported in the past, but same thing was true in May 2010 when there was no Free Dining going on.

That's a ridiculous explanation if I've ever heard one. No one would order an ice cream sandwich then take it apart to feed 3 people, 1 ice cream sandwich is meant for 1 person! Sounds like the restaurants are just trying to cut costs by further reducing what you can get with DDP credits.

Sorry to be so quick before, but was running in and out. There used to be a sign that stated those options were not available as a snack, the sign is gone, but I wanted them as a desert option for my counter service dinner meal. Believe me No-one was more convinced than I that there was a mistake, but it was clear that everyone in the ASMovies food court believed they were right. I totally agree about the timing being the issue. It is so close to the end of the year and to make such a change during the middle of a vacation is really bad practice.
I will probably speak to someone tomorrow about how this change was rolled out, as in, NO notification, so far in my room I have received notices about traffic issue possibilites (wine and dine run) and the system being down for the 12-14th in the a.m., but nothing stating and buy the way, your DDP has depricated and your entitlements have lost value, but your price remains the same :confused3

:goodvibes

yeah, I agree it's a bummer when they change these things, but as far as our experience, there's never been an official list of what's allowed/not allowed...this is probably why there's no official list. They can change it as the budget/costs merit.

As far as the ice cream sandwich goes...it was a HUGE dessert and a wonderful value on the dining plan. But I can actually see the reasoning on "3 servings"...those are not small cookies, and the sandwiches I've seen had 2 or 3 scoops of ice cream between 2 oversized cookies. Agree it would be difficult to split the thing between 3 people...but it certainly is made up with the full components of 3 different dessert pieces. If you order a cookie for dessert, you get one of those cookies they use to make the sandwich. If you order ice cream, you get a couple of scoops. So I can see the justification for not allowing the ice cream sandwich as one dessert anymore.Don't get me wrong...I would LOVE for them to go back to counting that as a snack or dessert option but can see why they've changed even if I don't like it.

While I don't disagree with anything else, just pointing out that unless they closed the entire resort - hotels, parks, everything - for a brief period and started everything up fresh one morning, ANY day a change goes into effect is going to be during the middle of some Guests's vacations.

This same thing happened to us two years ago they "were" letting you take the large bag of Mickey Pretzels ($2.79) as a snack item. Granted this was a large bag so we even shipped them home for over two years and used to take to work for co workers. Then they said snacks had to be under $4.00 well they were? :confused3 Last trip in February was told had to be single serving regardless or price? it is getting to where the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing :sad2: as so many things can still get that cost way more than those pretzels did now I read they have even dicontinued the pretzels. Hope this a rumor :worship:

that suggestion is clearly an extreme... my point is, it is close to the end of the year, ther is a more reasonable solution not as extreme, make the changes take place during the new year as most do on the Dining Plan, not the middle of the week and without notice.

I had a few thoughts about this. First off I wonder if it was a possible mistake earlier in your trip? Maybe it wasn't supposed to be a dessert then either, and it wasn't enforced?

The other thought is that we usually see lots of changes during Free Dining or September/October. That may be because Disney's new Fiscal year starts on October 1st.

I hope the brownie sundae is still considered dessert :( that was one of my favs. Is there not a list that disney has put out somewhere? I mean how can one know if its really worth it? I am a HUGE dessert person HUGE. I do not care for custard or fruit farfaits or any of that fru fru fruity stuff. I want the choc. , the ice cream, the cookies, sweets. Now I am gonna have to do my homework and plan to eat at places that have good desserts ! Any ideas on where to start? ( qs meals )

Brownie sundae's were still considered a dessert (as of 2 days ago), but you couldn't use a snack credit :( Funny though, we'd get a brownie as dessert and then we'd get a sundae with a snack credit and then just chop our brownie up in the icecream....the sundae was big enough for 2 or 3 of us....so this was a great way to maximize our credits since then we'd have other desserts (cookies, cupcakes..etc) to slip in a ziplock and eat later in the day.

that is not the case. I was told that they had just had a meeting and were just informed of the change which took place a few days after Oct 1.

the brownie sundae was allowed at the begining of Oct but not yesterday?? I am at All star Movies, no more brownie sundae or cookie ice cream

which resort are you at??? I am at All star movies and it was not allowed yesterday.. again I was toldthis buy two people at two locations, the counter and the cashier... not syaing you weren't allowed it, I am sure you were as others were as well, I just want to warn others to be cautious before they spend 10mminutes getting a desert and 5minutes in line to cash out just to be told it's not allowed :confused3
