We just purchased at AKV and I am trying to remember something I thought I saw in the video. The point schedule that I am given this year, is it the same for all the years in the future? Is it the same for only AKV or for every DVC location? I bought 250 points, which seems enough for my family, but if point cost go up in the future, am I going to have to add on points to my original purchase?

Love the Developer Points!!

There are different point charts for each DVC resorts. There's a link at the top of this page to view it. The total of the points on each chart has to remain the same, but there could be a realignment of the points as far as seasons, and cost per night goes. There has only been one major realignment as far as I know and that was in the '90's at OKW. There was also the addition of the Boardwalk view as a category to book at BWV, but note that they are the same price as the Preferred, not really a new point chart.

PS. Welcome Home, AKV neighbor!!! I hope you are as happy as we are with our DVC purchase(s). We have added on because we want to go to WDW more often with our growing extended family and friends, not because of point chart changes. Original purchase 200 points, we're now at 855 at 5 home resorts!

The total number of points that are required to reserve every room for every night of the year for a specific resort cannot change (by contract).

However, Disney retains the right to "reallocate" the way the total is distributed. So if Disney raises the point cost for something, it must reduce the point cost for something else so that the net change is zero. (This is not technically correct, but the concept is close enough for discussion. The actual contract talks about points required for a "unit", which is less than the total resort. The definition of "unit" varies by resort).

In practice, DVC has "reallocated" points only once. That was at OKW. So it is reasonable to assume that the point chart you received for AKV will stay the same. Note that the only times that really change from year to year are Thanksgiving and Easter, because the dates for those Holidays change from year to year. That said, the two weeks around Easter are the same cost as is Thanksgiving time.

There are separate and unique point charts for each DVC resort. There is a link at the top of the page should you want to see them.

That is what I thought, but it is nice to get confirmation from those in the know and have been in the system longer than 1 week.

He is a great guy here on the DIS and now a Moderater here I beleive.

Just one note... he has not had time to update the new booking dates, which used to be 11/7 months from your check out date, and are now 11/7 months out from your check IN date, so remeber than when planning! :thumbsup2
