Which day of the week do you recommend? We'll be driving in from San Diego. I'm looking for the best day of the week for park crowds and traffic to and from DL. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I'd suggest Wednesday. That way, you'll be able to beat the weekend crowds. Keep in mind, though, you may meet some traffic with commuters. Good luck! :thumbsup2

I can't speak for traffic from San Diego, but for park crowds I would suggest Wednesday also, Tuesday for a second choice. :)

Thanks for the info! We'll do Wednesday and keep our fingers crossed. How long does it usually take to drive from San Diego?

You should be fine with Wednesday.

It will depend on where in San Diego you are. The city is huge, the outlying communities are vast. Brother lives in Chula Vista and calls it San Diego; it takes almost half an hour (especially if you don't use the toll road) to just GET to I-5. It takes a solid 2 hours without any traffic to get from house to Harbor.

If we were leaving from the airport, or SIL's workplace (downtown), it would be less time.

when we were leaving from their place on a Thursday, SIL said that I should either leave very very early, or after 9, to miss the traffic. We weren't trying to get to DL at opening that day, so that was acceptable to us. If you're trying to get there for opening, leave EARLY.

My current trip report linked in my sig has links to all my trip reports, 2 of which (the first two) were one day trips where we left from San Diego, by the way. :)

Okay, well I guess we'll allot 2 hours for the drive from Coronado. I can't wait. I wish we had more than one day, but we'll be there from open to closing. Thanks for the info!

If you are coming from Coronado Island, be prepared to have the bridge freeway to get a little slow during rush hour traffic. I have never been in it, but I know that it can get bad (its only 2 lines in either direction). Once you get past downtown SD and the Golden Triangle north of La Jolla, you should be alright. 2 - 2.5 hours should be enough to get you to DLR baring any accidents and construction work.
