Just off the DISNEY WONDER

I just got off the DISNEY WONDER on Sunday. It was my 79th cruise but first time ever on Disney. Like many, the kids and high prices kept me away all these years. As a lover of Disney and ships, I have always admired the MAGIC and WONDER. They look like ships should look like, and I figured they offered a lot of "Disney Detail".

I came away super impressed, and felt I got every penny worth of what I paid. It was almost like cruising for the first time again because Disney has their own way of doing things. I felt the ship was a class act, and so were most of the passengers. This is saying a lot considering it was only a 3-day cruise. There were three full scale production shows in only three days, and the shows were the best I have seen on any ship. My standard balcony cabin was very large, had two bathrooms, a large closest and tons of storage space (for a ship), and even a steamer trunk that opened to reveal more storage space. The flat panel TV had tons of channels and many that showed Disney Classic feature films. There was even a full scale cinema onboard (rare these days) that can show 4-D movies. A Christmas Carol was released onboard ship with a showing at 12:01am Friday, just like the release on land.

There were lots of Disney Details all over the ship, and the food and service were excellent. In fact our waiter and assistant waiter introduced themselves and actually called my partner and I by name the first night. I was impressed! That has never even happened even on Silversea. The "rotational" dining was wonderful and the fireworks at sea are not to be missed (along with the Pirates show out on deck). I loved seeing Disney characters everywhere and Castaway Cay, Disney's private island blows all the others away. Labadee was my favorite until now. They even announced your name as you walked on the ship during the initial embarkation (if you like that sort of thing). The 24/7 beverage bar was great too, all the free soda you could possible want. Soda is free in the dining rooms and buffet as well.

Anyway, a full review is in progress but lets just say that Disney Cruise Lines has made a believer out of me. I won't be sailing exclusively on Disney but at least now when I see those high prices, I will understand why. Also, we are two adult men with no kids. The adult areas on the ship were beautiful and well enforced. We saw kids, but it was not overwhelming like on some ships we have sailed. The kids were well cared for and had the best facilities at sea, so they were not that interested in hanging with the adults.

Great review--very exciting since we're about to head out for our first Disney Cruise (on the Magic though.)

I LOVED your photos--they were super awesome. Very thorough and also unique--dare I say one of the best galleries I've come across :goodvibes

Thanks!

I second that. Great pictures, and I appreciate the point of view. Granted, I've only taken one cruise, and that was a 4 night on the Wonder, my next is a 7 night eastern on the Magic, and maybe a sailing on the Dream in 2011, but there's one thing that I loved was the service and details.

Castaway Cay was another big thing about it too!

I also really enjoyed your pictures!:) But I have to ask, when were they taken?? There's not a person (not even a kid) in sight in most.

:thumbsup2 Great pictures, noticed you took detailed photos. Enjoyed reading your postitive review. You can see why so many people keep booking cruises with DCL :woohoo:

Thanks Ernie for your review. We are sailing on the Wonder on 12/3/2009 and we haven't been on a Disney cruise since 2004. I feel this is our first time sailing on a Disney cruise even though we had been sailing other cruiselines for the last 5 years.

You mentioned "Pirates show out on deck". Can you describe that show to me and when it is? I don't want to miss it.

Thanks for the photo of the Wonder w/the Flying Dutchman. Is there a pathway for you visit the Flying Dutchman?

What accomidation did you have?

Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed yourself ... Disney had a lot to live up to with the amount of cruises you'd done!!

We'd only done the QE2 before through my work and it wasn't really a cruise, rather a couple of nights around the shores of the UK .. weather was ok but the Isle of Wight can't compare to Castaway Cay!! :confused3

So, when is your next one?!! :)

>>>> Minybear ... The pirates night is on top deck on the 2nd night of a 3 night cruise. Your table at dinner will have some pirate gear (bandana etc) but alot of people dress up, especially children.
Regarding the Flying Dutchman, when you get off the ship and go onto CC, the path goes right by it .. it's usually where Captain Jack is hanging out too so you can get a photo of yourself and him in front of the FD.

We stayed in room 6634 which is a secret veranda room ... it's one of the ones at the back of the ship with the curved bit of metal on the veranda .. you only pay for a Cat 6 but it's actually a Cat 7. Fantastic views of the FD and CC on the morning we docked. :)

We have been 6134 (the same cabin as you on the other side of the ship) before and will be again for our Wonder cruise in January. Great cabin and location!!! Just a quick clarification....these cabins are priced at a Cat 7 (naviagator verandah which are less expensive) but were actually Cat 6's (higher priced). That is why they are a great value! Many people complained about the slight obstruction so they reclassified them as Cat 7's. The same cabins on Deck 7 used to be Cat 5's.

Thanks for the info, especially from such veteran cruisers, holy cow 79 cruises????

I love your photos and will have to share these with our friends that are going with us, and those that I want to feel jealous.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Fabulous pictures, Ernie! You should post the overhead atrium shot (with the chandelier) in the DCL picture of the day thread so everyone can see it....it's great!

.

Thank you for sharing your WONDERful photos! Disney does have beautiful ships. After viewing your album, I'm even more excited about my 2nd cruise on the Wonder next month. I even found myself thinking, maybe I WILL book the Transatlantic or Mediterranean cruise on DCL for 2011!

So glad to hear you enjoyed your Disney Cruise! My mom just took her first voyage on Disney (Oct 22nd 3-night sailing) and was hesitant prior to the trip. Well, she was SOLD for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned!

DARN! We have Palo's scheduled for the 2nd night! Oh well. We have secured 7620 which is also one of the secret verandah rooms for our 4/27/2011 Wonder cruise.

Thank you for your review and the awesome pictures. :thumbsup2 I really enjoyed the pictures and I appreciate you taking the time to post them for us all to enjoy! Again. THANKS!:hippie:

I actually took these around 11:30am on the day we docked at Castaway Cay. Most of the passengers had already disembarked the ship, and the lighting we pretty good as well.

Hi Minybear,
The Pirates Show is more of a party, but expect a few surprises as well. I don't want to ruin it for you, but just be sure to be out on deck. It's not to be missed.

In regards to the Flying Dutchman, it's just for show. There is no access.

We were in category 5, standard outside balcony on Deck 7. Great location and a wonderful cabin. I highly recommend it. I also recommend booking the Starboard side of the ship. You have the better views of Nassau and Castaway Cay, providing the ship docks the same way each cruise.

So, when is your next one?!! :)

Next up is OASIS OF THE SEAS in January followed by QM2 in April. The only other cruise I have booked is NORWEGIAN EPIC next November. I like to try all the newest ship designs when possible.

Ernie, Really enjoyed your photos. Thanks for sharing and reminding me why I can't wait to leave on the Wonder in 143 days.

What kind of camera do you use?
