I cannot believe this is happening to us again......
last year DLH pool went down the week we were there and luckily we found out about it a few days before and switched to GC.

Just got off the phone with the hotel operator and Redwood and Fountain pools are going down as of 1/19 and not coming back up until 2/20!!!

Email just came out this morning to the staff. I am glad I called.

DH said he thinks we should go ahead and keep our ressies, even though DLH has availability and just go over to PP or DLH if DS wants to swim and use the pool. The Mariposa pool at GC is going to get awfully crowded for awhile.

Too cold to swim in January anyways! Better than them closing it in July! :thumbsup2

Yeah, the times we walked through/past the pool area even in October there was almost no one in there. I can't imagine January is going to be packed. :)

No it is not. We have gone the same week for the last four years and have swam several days out of the trip. I am sure we are not the only ones that use the pool this time of year. There are plenty of people swimming and even found it hard to get a chair at times.

Oh dear...we are going one month from today! What to do what to do?!?! Last year-same time we DID swim and wore shorts!

I'm with you........what I did was weigh my options and did a cost benefit analysis. We like being close, rooms are nice, love the feel of the hotel, we eat at NR and use Pinnochios. So....I called the hotel back and asked if we will be able to use PP or DLH should we want to have access to a larger pool/slide. She said yes, but they cannot tell us which one until we check in. I am good with that.

As this happened to us last year with the DLH pool being down, I was making sure there were no pool issues this year...hence why I called. Funny....I called last week and was told there were no refurbishments scheduled. Obviously things can change in a matter of a few days. I just like to know ahead of time what to expect....if it is going to be down...I want to know about it as it is an amenity that I use.

The hotel operator at GC said there was plenty of availability at DLH for our dates which are 1/23-1/30. If you are an AP holder someone posted that PP concierge was $195 per night which is really good.

I am staying put for now.....I guess maybe we should call the DLH and PP to see if there pools are going to be down too :lmao:

No concierge level available at the DLH except for the 31st and it's $288 at the AP rate. There is concierge level available at the PPH for $195 a night. :)

Thank you, I am assuming you are looking at the AP website? My email/password stopped working a month ago so I havent been able to look. My AP expires on 1/30 and I am not renewing for next year.

The PP concierge is a good deal. I am having groceries delivered to GC at this point. DH wants to stay put and I am thinking that is probably the best for everyone. As long as we get to use one of the other hotel slide pools it should be ok.

That's Disney! That's why some people who have to fly in from far away places get PO'd when they do these last minute changes.

Unless you come from freezing cold I don't think you'll find January temps to be high enough to get in the pool! It's calling for rain this Monday as a matter of fact.

Im a def newbie to the California boards..so my question is are these the only to pools at the GC??

Are trip is in less than 29 days....

Like I said before we have travelled for a week in January, this will be the fourth year in a row and we have swam EVERY year.....this is not a debate on whether it is too cold ito swim in January or not.....it is to inform people about a refurbishment on a portion of the hotel that is utilized by guests as well as myself. I believe guests would rather know that the pools are down than be surprised when they get there.

There is one new pool, I believe it is called the Mariposa pool, that was created when the they did the villas and added the new wing. When we were there in September it had just opened. Small but it's there.

No one will be swimming any time soon. It is supposed to rain all next week. Rain is coming in on Sunday, and will be here till at least Friday.

Looks like it is going down the day before we arrive. Weather.com is showing rain almost our entire trip, accuweather is showing it clear for most of our trip.:confused3 We are still planning on swimming, but will find other things to do if we can't. Godale, thanks for the update!

Your welcome! The rain has delayed the beginning of the refurb from what I was told so it may keep delaying it and not actually start on 1/19. Doesn't hurt to call and check.

We have found that even while in DL that wunderground and weather.com have not been totally accurate. It will show forecast of rain and then guess what...? It doesn't rain! Does it rain in January? Absolutely but out of 21 days of vacation, we had a poncho on only two of those days for a couple hours at the most. We usually have had it be anywhere from 65-75 degrees during our stay. I have actually started going on our DL vacations packing for both kinds of weather in Jan. because you just don't know what you are going to get.....and the weather channels have yet to help me make the decisions on what to pack.

A little rain while in the pool does not stop people from swimming!;)

Whatever the weather, we will have a great time! I'm still excited about staying at the Grand, pool or no pool. If dd decides not to swim, we can always watch a movie or hang out in the lounge. We'll make it work no matter what hand we are dealt. After all, we are at Disneyland! How bad could it be?:rotfl:

Exactly. The pool is a big deal for DS but I talked to him about it last night and he is okay with going to PP or DLH...whereever they send us. He is hoping for PP as he has not stayed there before.

I am glad that Grizzly is not down for this trip as well!
