just need to vent - holding multiple ADR's

Ok I just need to vent for a minute. I have been trying since my 180-day mark to book an Ohana breakfast and dinner for my family during our 8-day stay in September. It has been a very frustrating process as the only dinner reservation I have seen was for 9:50 pm (I did book it, it was literally the only one I have seen). A friend of mine used a travel agent and has THREE dinners reserved at Ohana, two of which are on the same day (about 2 hours apart so they can decide which time is better for them). I told her how hard it is to get an ADR for Ohana and she laughed & said that was why she was paying a travel agent to do it for her. She further told me that she does not plan to cancel her two same-day ADR's at Ohana until the day of, and she will just go with "whichever one is more convenient at the time." That is extremely frustrating to me being someone who can't even get a reservation until past my kids' normal bedtime. What do you think?

I think she and the TA are taking a big risk. With the new system WHEN it catches it she will lose both...period.

Unless they have the ressies in seperate names and numbers there is no way to hold 2 that close together, especially at the same place.

But to answer your question, yes that is frustrating, but give it time Disney is fixing this problem for us...it just takes time.

i know that you cant have 2 the same day for differant resteraunts as i booked yak and yeti and had to cancel rainforest cafe i had same day (which i was going to do anyway) beofre it would accept it

Yes you can, you can't have 2 within 2 hours of each other and thats it. People on the Deluxe Dining Plan eat potentially 3 TS meals per day.

It must be an hour apart. I was able to book two ressies for Flying Fish at 6 and 7:05.

I know several people who do this and it is super frustrating.

We really want breakfast at Tusker House or Chef Mickeys (any meal). I have tried all 5 days of our stay, for every hour increment and no luck. My guess is there will be plenty of empty tables though...there always is when we go to character meals.

I agree with you all completely. I was just saying that I was able to make 2 ressies within an hour of one another. I cancelled the 7 o'clock one because I'm going to be at Epcot that day and wanted to make sure I'd be back for Illuminations in time. So no, I'm not hoggin tables, lol.

I've been trying to book Ohana since my 180 day for something between 5 - 7pm on 11/29 or 12/2 and online always says all booked up. Thanks to people like that who have 2 booked

It did come up with a 9:40 once but that is way too late for a 4 year old. Oh well, I'll keep trying daily...:sad1:

I personally haven't double booked reservations, but I can understand why people do it. Having to make reservations 180 days before you eat is tough ... I can't even imagine what I'll be eating tonight for dinner, let alone 180 days from now. I can't blame people for trying to have all their bases covered well in advance.

I think the greatest argument is with those who 1) don't even bother to cancel the extras or 2) wait until the last possible minute to make their decisions and cancel the extras. That means no one gets the benefit of that cancellation.

That is exactly what I meant. I can understand not knowing when and where you want to eat, but is inconsiderate to so many others to not cancel the extra or cancel it at the very last minute.

I am still hoping for a little bit of pixie dust, I check the cancelled september and october cancelled adr threads often.

I hear you!! I have been stalking this board and the Disney site watching for O'hana too (for one of 3 days) and finally got a ressie at 8:05 pm. I am still watching for something earlier as 8:05 is still pushing it for a 4 year old.
But I can tell you that I won't be keeping both "just in case".

That bothers me to hear that people are hogging ressies. I think Disney should expand that time between ressies. IE. is it common sense that if I have a ressie at 3 pm, that I will eat, pay my bill and get back in line to do it all over again in 60 minutes? Notsomuch. It should be a minimum of 4 hours if it is the SAME restaurant and 2 if it is different restaurants.

It would be nice to think people would be more courteous, but there will always be people who think they are entitled. :sad2:

When I was making ADR's for my last trip I couldn't get one for Ohana online for any of the days of my trip. I called and the CM I spoke with was super nice and found one for me. She let me know that I should always call even if nothing is available online because they can do a more thorough check than booking it yourself. Don't know how true that is but she did find one for me so it can't hurt for you to try calling AND still look yourself online. :confused3

I agree it's frustrating when people double book all the way up to the day of or day before. I've double booked for an hour at most while I'm getting them tweaked--- just in case A isn't available, but B is available that day, and C is only available that day but not this day causing me to rearrange A or B, etc. :crazy2: Making ADR's can be exhausting! I always cancel the extras right away so they are available to others. My mama taught me to share. ;)

I think everyone understands the logic behind those doing it. That said, it is absolutely no justification for it. Common courtesy hardly seeems to exist anymore. For most people, it's all about "me, me, me".

There are a number of things Disney can do to combat this - although they are unlikely to implement any of them. Such things include:

  • drastically reduce the 180-day window (my preference is 45 days)
  • charge a nominal, non-refundable fee for each ADR - this can be either a flat fee or per person. also, it can be applied as a "deposit" toward your meal, as long as you show up, of course. If on DP, it would have to go towards drinks or anything else not covered by plan
  • charge a more substantial no-show fee, and/or a lesser fee for cancellations within 48 hours

Hang in there OP. We were in the same boat and couldn't find anything at 'Ohana's for dinner (except for 9 pm!). I kept checking everyday, multiple times a day and lo and behold I was able to get a 5:20pm reservation today for one of the days of our October trip! :yay: Don't give up!

It is this kind of selfish, it's all about my getting what I want attitude that causes problems for everyone.
I never double book.
I make a decision also not knowing what I might want to eat in 6 months and that is what I book.
If I can't make up my mind, I don't book anything
