Just Magic Band no cash

Do I need to take cash to the parks now with the magic bands. Can I purchase anything inside the park with one or do food carts and small merchandise stands/shops still need cashola?

In my experience, even the small carts took the magic band. I never take cash and I do just fine. You might find somewhere that doesn't take them, but you'll never be more than ten steps away from somewhere that does.

Some of the small carts and walk around vendors don't have the ability to take your MB. Bring some cash with you just in case.

The only things I'm planning on bringing cash for are: tolls, valet tips. I thought I had one more, but I guess not.

I agree
We always bring some cash and our Medical Insurance card and ID in case of an emergency

FWIW, at MK you need dollar bills (maybe quarters work too) to do the rifle shooting arcade in frontierland, near country bear jamboree. DS was soooo disappointed when I had nothing but the MB! You buy tokens to load the rifles with (laser light only) ammunition - the token machines are like the thing you see at a laundromat. Only takes cash.

This was as of late August 2014. I was surprised it wasn't converted to take MB for payment.

I tried to use my band to buy a dole whip and the cm said their connection wasn't working at that moment so I had to pay in cash. I would bring some cash just in case.

Always have some cash or a credit card just in case. My friend and her family were eating at a TS and their magic bands had a glitch and the restAurant could not access their dining plan or charge on their band and they were told they would have to pay for their meal by another method and then get reimbursed later. If they had not had cash or a credit card with them, they would have been in trouble.

Keep in mind that if you are staying on-site, your MagicBand is basically your room charge, and your resort will have a limit set. Depending on your spending, you could hit your limit during the day in a park and you would not be able to purchase anything else until you contact the front desk of your resort to settle the account. It happened to me last month, but luckily DW had cash and credit card in her purse.

The only thing I ran into that required cash were the vendors selling balloons and light-up toys on the street.

Here's the question...
I have seen a few threads where this situation happened.
IF the guest had a credit card attached to the profile in My Disney Experience for "charging priviledges" BUT didn't have the credit card on them in the restaurant, could the restaurant charge the credit card in this case then get a credit from Disney later????:confused3

THANKS!

I agree with this. We had this experience the first time we used our MB's. When it was time to pay for our lunch, our MB's weren't working, and we don't use the dining plan. It was a small glitch with our pin number, which got corrected quickly when we got back to the hotel. Only happened once, but always carry a credit card, just in case.

I often carry $20 with me, just in case. I think it's always still been with me at the end of the trip.

I also carry my Disney Visa with me in case I shop somewhere where I'll get a discount for using it.

Two separate times during our spring stay, my sister's magic band would not work for charging. It was totally random both times - as the magic bands worked perfectly before and after the failed charging attempts.

Both times were for snacks for her 4 year old daughter, and both times the snacks were being consumed during the charging attempt and fail. She had no cash on her, so the CM's just had to give her the snacks. She felt bad, but thought that you didn't have to bring cash as long as your magic band was working. She put some cash in her pocket after this.

We went to the front desk of the VGF to see what was wrong with her band, and they told her both times that her magic bands were working perfectly - except they weren't!

Just carry a little cash just in case. Disney always has "glitches" with their IT system.

I always carry some cash, my ID and a credit card. I don't trust Disney technology to work like it is supposed to and I'm not going to get caught without an alternate way to pay.

I'd bring some cash. Computers break. Glitches happen. You don't need lots of it.

I guess not. They had the card on file to use on their bands, but since their bands were not working, they were told they needed an actual card or cash. On the bright side, when they checked out and got their charge print out they had done some shopping on day and charged the stuff to their bands and it did not show up on the charge list. They reported it, and WDW couldn't figure it out and ultimately told them just to keep the stuff either way and it might or might not show up on their next credit card bill. It never showed up on their bill. So, I guess they had a bad glitch and a good glitch!

If I'm reading your question right no.

In the situation you quoted, they couldn't see either the dining plan or the CC info.

I guess I just don't see the big deal in carrying a credit card and a few dollars into the park. It just seems like bad planning not to anticipate that there could be times you might still need one or the other.

I always carry photo i.d. and disney visa just in case.

I have only used my disney visa to get the discount.

I have not yet found a cart that doesnt take a magic band. I am sure they are there, but i dont know of them.

One morning in the park, (last February, so magic bands were still pretty new) , none of the carts would take magic bands because the system was down for a few hours. The stores took them, it was just the carts, but they could still take cash or credit. Later that trip, we were in line behind a couple on their honeymoon who were told they couldn't charge to their bands because their credit card was declined/maxed out. They just had to leave since they didn't have any cash on them.
