Just Magic Band no cash

We were eating dinner at BOG and when it came time to pay none of our magic bands were working.
The server couldn't pull up our CC on it.

Luckily I always go into parks with cash, a credit card, my ID and insurance card. So I pulled out the credit card and paid. I have no idea what would have happened if I didn't have a way to pay - we'd already eaten the meal.

Another time I was at DTD and going to pay for a bunch of pins I'd bought and my magic band was not working, then I went to pay with my CC and that wasn't working - turns out my husband had gotten a fraud alert phone call from the CC company and cancelled that credit card!
Needless to say, I couldn't buy my pins until he got to DTD with another credit card - so embarrassing. And I was so mad at him because he forgot to tell me before I'd left the room to go shopping.

I've started carrying 2 credit cards with me since that incident.

Last fall I took a 5 day trip with my 5 year old and completely forgot about bringing cash. I had all of $10 on me and we used it towards the end of our trip for pressed pennies and to tip the CM who held our bags for us. Didn't need it anywhere else. In the past though I recall needing cash for balloons.

I didn't bring any cash. If the magic band machines weren't working then no problem. I just wouldn't buy anything. You can bet they make sure all of the magic band readers are working 99.9% of the time where you can spend money.

Carry a just in case payment option. My magic band didn't link when we traded resorts. Didn't have enough cash. Didn't have another form of payment. Manager had to force the payment through. Took probably an hour. It was horrible. Never been anywhere where I couldn't pay for my meal until I got to Disney.

Do I need to take cash to the parks now with the magic bands. Can I purchase anything inside the park with one or do food carts and small merchandise stands/shops still need cashola?

Yea, you too can join the thousands who discover the Trgic Band fails again and pitch a fit when it won't process your charge :rotfl2:

As for me, I will NEVER depend solely on the Tragic Band. It's way to unreliable

Only place we found that didn't normally take the bands were the food trucks in DTD. THis may have changed as we were there last May.

I hope to find out in two weeks when we go for our Christmas stay.

FWIW, we usually put cash down on the bands, no CC or Debit. Have only had one problem and that was on the day of arrival this past trip. The folks at Pizza Planet (they have triffic meatball subs) gave us our meal as they were having issues not us. We got all straighten out at Guest Services in the studios shortly after that.

I would prefer people rely on themselves instead of glitchy Disney technology that doesn't always work.

We had various issues with our MB's not working at POS locations on the two trips we used them and it was no problem, because we always had a back up way to pay.

I carry a card and some cash for tipping. Everything else onto the band for double points on my CC.

Partially agree, and I always carry a credit card. But I haven't carried cash day-to-day in at least ten years. You can do without it.
