I booked my flights last night for our dream holiday to Japan in April but failed to noticed until I printed out the details somehow our return flight got changed from April to August. I tried to call Opodo as soon I noticed but their call centre closed at 6pm so I have spent the night and the morning in a paniced state until their call centre opens at 9am. I even tried calling my bank but the payment had already went through. I have checked online and my e-ticket has not been issued yet. Do you think their is anyway that they might be able to change the flight details or cancel the whole thing without paying an arm and leg? Anyone ever been through this and have any advice for what to say, I feel physically sick at the thought of losing a month's wages on something I can't even use.

distance selling rules should apply here, they should be able to help x

So they are being no help, I have asked to speak to a supervisor and they will be calling me back. I honestly don't know what I am going to do.

Awww sorry to hear theres been an error, its so easily done.
fingers crossed, i hope you get it sorted without too much trouble.x :wizard:

Unfortunately, travel arrangements are exempt from the Distance Selling Regulations. I don't see why they wouldn't alter the date for you though, as it's not like you're cancelling the booking altogether. If they won't, you may be able to claim on your travel insurance (presuming you have an existing contract).

We have travel insurance through my husband's bank account, so that may be what I try. Still not heard back from the supervisor.

I can't believe they haven't called you back, that's really bad service. :( Maybe call them again to put the pressure on.

I called them again and finally got a call back 10 minutes later. They said they can't refund the full cost. I started crying and the supervisor than told me there would be a £50 charge if I cancelled but the airline would only keep 20% and I would get 80% of my money back within 3 months. That's better than the first person I spoke to which told me I couldn't have any of my money back. Do you think I might be able to claim the rest on hubby's travel insurance?

Mel

I wish. It is 20% of the cost of my flights, about £200 but still better than losing the full cost.

Mel

Ah right, I thought you meant 20% of the £50 charge. Never mind. As you say, it's better than losing the full cost. I have to say though, it's rather ungracious of them to do this- as I said earlier, it's not like you wanted to cancel the whole thing. As long as there were still seats available, it would have been good customer service if they had just charged you the £50 to switch dates.

I feel that way about it as well, it sucks but had to take the best deal i could get. It I just got off the phone with my bank who were much better, they've increased my credit limit so I pay for new flights so I'll still be able to go on my trip and not lose more money cancelling my hotels. I can breathe a sigh of relief now, I thought I had wrecked our whole trip.

That sucks but at least it's something :(

When I booked my flights with Continental I'm sure there was a clause that I could cancel everything within 24 hours with no penalty :confused3

Personally I think that's awful customer service...

It's an easy mistake to make and you called them immediately, so i think they're just being greedy!
