I just called Disney Club line and made a request for a king bed on our existing ressie. We aren't paying for a king bed on our ressie that shows our room rate. She couldn't open my ressie so she said she had to call I think the hotel itself and it took her a while because the line was busy. My question is, will they charge me more for my room, I didn't ask for a king bed when I made the ressie in Jan. when the AP rates came out. Do you think they will increase our balance due, she didn't mention anything about a change in price.

I hope they charge you, otherwise it is unfair to those that pay the extra for a king bed.

At the WL. I don't expect to be guaranteed a king, but going the third week of Jan., if a room is empty it wood we nice. I put in a request as you would a particular wing. I just don't know if she understood what I wanted as she seemed new. We are paying for a woods view. I have heard sometimes at slow times they do upgrades on arrival. I wasn't asking for a guarantee, which of course I would expect to pay for.

I feel I have stepped on toes with my question. Please do not think I expected to be guaranteed a room that costs more for less. The key word being guaranteed. I was under the assumption you paid extra for the guarantee of a king or specific building. I was not requesting a guarantee. By the way, can anyone tell me if I'm spelling guarantee right? I don't know where the spell check is on this sight. Thanks

I requested a King at Pop and there is no extra charge. I agree that it depends on the resort. Also, when it is "requested" that is different than guaranteed.

Yooperfan,

Yes, your spelling was correct. I use the spell check all the time, too. Although, I don't know where it is on this site if there us one. I go into "write mail" and do it that way.

You didn't step on my toes. That is why I changed my posting. While it doesn't appear that WL charges more for a king bed, I would still call and see about your ressie. The person you talked to may have changed it rather than putting in a "request". It shouldn't be a problem if they don't charge extra; but I would still check to see that she didn't mess with your AP rate.

Thank you for the feedback. My husband is counting on this trip to go a smooth as can be expected, rough year, long story. I would feel awful if we went to pay off our bill and it was a lot more than expected, no way to start a vacation. I guess I'm just getting jumpy the closer our stay gets. anyway, thanks.

When I have made reservations in the past, particularly at AKL since the view is coveted by many, the CM would say that the rate guaranteed a particular view as a minimum. In otherwords, a pool view rate guaranteed a pool view or better, i.e. you might be upgraded to a Savannah view, but would not be down graded to a standard view facing the bus stop or parking lot.

If you want a guarantee of a particular room group, you have to make that kind of reservation, but there is a good chance for an upgrade at check-in during slower times of the year.

Also, another way around the upgrade question is to find out from other Disers where the type of room you want is located and request that type of room. For example, all of the bunk-bed rooms on the Zebra trail also have pool views and a few have Savannah views. I reserved a standard room and 5 days out I faxed a room request to AKL and requested bunk beds on the Zebra trail. We were upgraded to a pool view which we prefer to a Savannah view. If we had preferred a Savannah view, we would have reserved a pool view and requested the upgrade to a Savannah view.

However, I think Disney has begun to discourage contacting the resort directly and prefer that you submit your request to the CM at the CRO when placing your reservation. If there is an additional charge, they will tell you, but if they don't charge extra, they can't guarantee the upgrade if there is a difference in cost between the room group you pay for and the upgrade you request. In your case, with no additional charge for a king bed, you will probably get it.

From my experience, the moderates will charge more for King Room while the deluxes don't.

When I stayed at WL in October, I booked a woods view, when i checked in I asked if a King Room was available, it was and it ended up being a courtyard view, to me the view was the upgrade and the bed was simply a 'type' of room.

Keep in mind that all of the King Rooms in WL are handicap accessable. Not a big deal except the shower kinda floods into the bathroom. The humorous thing about the rooms is the everything is set lower to make it wheelchair accessable, but the bed feels like it is about 3.5-4 feet off the ground, so I was constantly trying to figure out how I would get from a wheel chair inot bed, you'd have to amazing upper body strength. :teeth: .

It isn't that hard to transfer, honest!(smile) You just flip up the armrest of the wheelchair (or if you are a "self" wheeler you probably don't have the armrests on at all) and scoot over onto the bed. To get out of bed you pull the chair right up next to the bed and scoot over onto the chair. Helps to be wearing a slippery nightgown(smile), so no flannel for me.

And it seems like none of the roll-in showers have enough of a slant towards the floor drain. The easiest way to prevent flooding is to roll or twist a few bath towels into "ropes" and use them to edge the shower. When you see where most of the water is going to go, double up the rolled or twisted towels in those areas. Or as my spouse says: "This one needs three dams, the last one only needed two."(smile)
