Just lost my reservation

I had 2 nights reserved in december at my home resort. Called member services to switch and they said VWL was available. Then it wasn't. Now I have nothing :(

Last time they switched me they used new points to book the new room then cancelled the old one so I didn't lose it but this one didn't do that.:headache:

How horrible. This is a huge fear of mine when switching resorts. I can understand when you are using the same points, but when you have plenty, there's no reason why they can't book the new one and cancel the old in that order. What did you do to resolve this?

Ugh thanks for empathizing.

After I cooled down I called back and asked what they have available at all. I was able to get boardwalk pool view (blech - but I wanted to be closer to parks and the only other options were OKW and SSR). I waitlisted boardwalk standard and VWL. I also changed the waitlist for VWL to 7 days since this would use more points anyways and nothing would go into holding if we changed.

Yes I had plenty of points for the new reservation - that's the annoying part! I guess from now on I will try to just waitlist the new Resort. So it cost us 7 more points for the 2 day stay - not horrible I guess. Just if I have to pay for preferred view I would much rather see the boardwalk than screaming kids and ppl in bathing suits

OUCH!!!

Sorry to hear that. But you are the example of what we were so worried about in switching at the 7 month mark - being left with neither our original or new reservation (we didn't have enough points to cover both).

I guess this is the reminder for everyone that it not only can happen, but does.

We've had a Pool view at BWV in December... the pool was basically unused. You probably won't have screaming kids and folks running around in swimsuits.

I am still totally confused by this whole process. I also cannot believe that MS does not have a way to take a room out of inventory and hold it (temporarily) then cancel your ressie and apply your points to the new ressie. I think this is a MS problem and they should fix it. I would be tick and never gave it a thought this could happen.

There is so much to learn about working with MS! I never would have thought that you could lose a reservation by changing a resort. I understand why, but it makes no sense. They should be able to hold a room for a short period of time just while making a change.

What dates are you looking for at VWL? I have 7 nights booked but only need 4, so I will be cancelling a few days in a few days.
Does that make sense?

3 YEARS AGO, I was told that MS was working on changing the procedure so that a reservation could be "held" for just the time it took to cancel one and book the desired one, but it hasn't happened.:headache:

If I were the OP I would certainly call MS and in the very least ask to be put on a priority waitlist for what I had (what did you have?). When it happened to me, the priority waitlist didn't work, but MS was aware of what happened, and 2days before we were to leave, they were able to put us in what we had been trying to change to, an inn room at VB. I did not keep calling MS in the 3 months between the time my reservation was lost,, but I did write a letter a month, always stating what happened and always hoping something could be done, both at the time of making the reservation and in getting service of some sort to help out once the reservation was lost.

From then on, I do ASK to book the new before letting go of the old if I have the current UY points to do so.

BWV is one of our favorites to stay at! We had a pool view 2 years ago and it was fine. Noise from outside didn't disturb us or anything. We had a great view of DHS at night though and we could see the Fantasmic fireworks as well.

I was looking for the nights of 12/11 & 12/12 (Saturday and Sunday night). I think one of them was available but not the other. Sorry you have to shorten your trip :(

I had a boardwalk standard so it's not a huge deal now... I was just a bit panic stricken when I ended up with nothing.

Yeah they botched my honeymoon too when they put me on the WRONG waitlist somehow and it came through and then my original was gone. I hate that you can't see the waitlists online now. Somehow they were able to find inventory for me even tho it wasn't there originally.

Those are actually two nights that we will be there. I thought perhaps we could work something out with MS if we had the days you needed.

It is indeed lousy that happened to you, and it's a flaw that needs to be fixed.

Awesome - we are planning to go to Artist Point whether we are staying at VWL or not... so maybe we'll see you around :)

ive held my breath before hoping a 7 month switch worked out.

since then have made sure i had enough points to float both reservations, then cancelled #1 & reallocated the points to oldest UY. It's a benefit of having more points onhand that you require/being a large owner (of which i am not) i suppose, good sales tool they could market;)

it's the system in place, what can you do other than try to work with it:confused3

....

That's what I had lost too...BW standard and as I said, the "priority"waitlist never came through to get it back for me. Those are VERY popular, and the reason we have BWV points!:goodvibes

Ugh, I'm sorry that happened to you. How frustrating! I called yesterday to check availability for our July trip (yes, 2 months away). We were booked at OKW but really wanted to be "home", which is BLT. We just purchased last month so we couldn't book any sooner. When I first called the day after we joined, only SSR and OKW were available. By some miracle, a Lake view studio at BLT was available for our dates when I called yesterday (NOTHING had been prior to that, not even 1 night), so before I could even open my mouth, the CM grabbed it (she said it was the last one!) and then cancelled my OKW ressie when she was done. I guess because we have plenty of points she was able to do it that way? We are new owners so I had no idea you could lose a ressie the way you did. I really hope MS fixes this glitch, and soon! And I hope you get your standard view back, too!

So sorry that happened to you Tiffany- I hope that you will priority waitlist, and that it will come through for you. If not, I promise to do my BEST to cheer you up the month before on our cruise! :dance3: Thanks for bringing this MS flaw to our attention!

I think when I was switching my Oct reservation this year to BCV the CM was holding her breath while she did it! :lmao:

I agree it's a pretty poor system that doesn't allow a room to be held for a minute or two while the other reservation is released. And when you consider that the waitlist essentially does that - holds the room until a CM fills your request - it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that MS can't also. :confused3

Hopefully your waitlist will come thru!

I have made changes to reservations several times, and Member Services has always warned me that a reservation can be lost while trying to book another one. I have a hard time believing that they didn't warn you of that possibility. And if they didn't, you have a legitimate gripe. I could be looking into this too far, but my guess is that they did tell you, which is why you are bummed out but not downright angry. I would be angry if that happened without a warning. My experience, though, suggests that you got the standard warning.
