Hi,

Just a quick thanks for all of the helpful info we've received from this board! :)

We just purchased 350 points at SS yesterday and couldn't be happier. We live only 6.5 hours from Orlando and usually go down at least twice a year so DVC was the only logical choice.

One quick question however, can anyone tell me what I can expect in my welcome kit? Also, will we have decals for our vehicles identifing them for parking purposes at the resorts or will we be given a paper pass for each visit?

Thanks in advance!

Scott

Hi You should receive it within a week or sooner. Mine came FEDEX. no decal when you stay at a resort they give you a paper pass to put in you windo. I PM you....Welcome home

Congrats...and as eveyone here says..Welcome Home!

The welcome kit will come FedEx...It will contain temporary member ID cards, all your paperwork to be signed and copies for yourself, general rule book, a members DVC tote bag, and I think thats about it.
Also you said you purchased a 350 point contract...Did you break that up into to contracts?? Its actually better if you do because if you have to sell its much easier unloading 2 - 175 points contracts than it would be to sell 1 - 350 pointer.

I agree about splitting those contracts up, if you haven't already. I think you can still do it.

Yes, our rep advised us of that. We decided to split it out between 2 175's.

A couple of quick questions as I've got everyone's attention:

Does anyone you've talked to ever used your DVC point for cruises or non DVC accomodations? I'm having trouble getting the forum search functionality working for me (I think it may be due to the number of posts it has to search)

If you have done either, what is the exchange rate like? Is it reasonable? We were thinking about a Disney Cruise for one summer and possibly Gatlinburg another time.

Thanks!

I have yet to trade but from what I read being posted here is that most actually rent or transfer their points and cruise on cash. The point exchange for the Disney cruise is not the advantageous for owners. DVC resorts will always be your best bang for the buck.......

Congratulations! And Welcome Home!

We have used points on a 3 day cruise and I also rented out and got a 7 day cruise the next year for cash. It wasn't much more money for the 7 day over a 3 day on points. About the same cost. I would rent them again if we do it again.

Hi Roger, or any other DVC member,

So let me make sure I understand this correctly as I'm new to all of this DVC stuff...

For the three day cruise you used points. Because the number of points were so high; when you wanted to book a seven day cruise, you simply rented out that same amount of points to an individual and made enough to cover the cost of the 7 night cruise paying for it with $$$ instead of points????
