We had a Costco membership a few years back and had considered renewing but hadn't yet. Well, I went in today with a friend and they offerred me a $10 gift card and her a bonus of 2 free months of membership so I figured why not.

I didn't buy much today, but the things I found that I could really save on were hamburger for $1.99 lb when in the grocery store here it is $3lb, Milk for about 80 cents less than I have been paying per gallon, cheese for $3 lb and butter, 4 lbs for $7.50 (approx)

So what do you find really saves you money to purchase at Costco rather than say Target or the grocery store?

How do I love Costco? Let me count the ways:

I love anything that is their Kirkland Brand. Things I buy regularly and I feel are big $$ savers: TP, paper towels, garbage bags, wipes (both baby and cleaning), dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent; aspirin/pain relief that is the Kirkland brand. ESP buy their baby tylenol if you have babies or toddlers- what a $AVING$!

Food items I always buy at Costco: DiGiorno Pizza; chicken breasts (frozen); corn dogs; chicken nuggets (I have kids, can ya tell?); Prego pasta sauce; Jif peanut butter; sometimes cereal although this isn't always the best deal if the grocery store has it on sale; MILK; GoGurt; cheese (both plain American and deli); their sandwich buns (the hot dog buns they serve in their food court)-- only $2.79 for 18 huge buns! Eggo waffles. Frozen berries and veggies (very good quality). Eggs! Juice boxes (Kirkland brand).

I also look for deals on books, movies, gifts. I am going on Monday to grab some Easter baskets for my kids- high quality baskets filled with candy and a nice stuffed animal for $14 each! We have bought TV's, appliances, furniture there; you know what my favorite priced thing at Costco is???? FILM DEVELOPING! Cannot beat the quality and the price.

I'm sure I'll think of more, or others will list them, but I don't think you till regret your membership purchase.

That I buy a lot of Kirkland brands as was mentioned. Especially garbage bags, laundry detergent (this is an awesome deal and really works well), toilet paper, saline solution, dog food. I"ve never been unhappy with any of their branded stuff. Fruit can be a really good deal in season. We get apples and pears there often, and strawberries if they have 'em. English Muffins (if you ever find yourself in need of those! ;)) and bread too! :rotfl2: Girls swimming suits (speedo brand) are usually $11 or so at this time of year. If your family likes JellyBelly jelly beans - they have 'em branded as Kirkland. Fruit snacks...some cereal as was mentioned. Juice boxes if you need them for field trip type things.

I love Costco! It's a grand and lovely place! :rotfl: :goodvibes :flower:

Dont forget the cakes!! Someone brought a cake to work, and it was delicious!! I'm always amazed at how cheap they sell the cakes for!! Ice Cream is a bargain there too!!

I am meeting my mom for my first ever trip to Costco tomorrow!!! Can't wait to try all of this great sounding stuff! Particularly the laundry detergent - my mom has already told me how great that stuff is. :)

Don't forget the $4.99 rotisserie chickens!

And a big seller here is gasoline. It's 30 cents less than the local stations.

Have fun!!

I love their croissants. Not sure they are a good buy, but they are sure a good treat!

Things which are great buys.....Kirkland Brand of ibuprofin, big laundry detergent, shampoo, pine nuts, olive oil, coffee.

Also, brand name contact lens solutions, contact lenses and glasses fom the optical shop, juice boxes.

In fresh..... the bag of mixed color bell peppers, gallons of milk, wheels of brie cheese.

I also got a great goose down blanket and pillow, ladies shirts, kids clothes, Harry Potter newly released books.

Pre-paid phone card, one hour photo including prints from you digital camera and phot cards,

I also LOVE the Kirkland brand products!
The shampoo & conditioner are GREAT! They smell really good too!
We buy the Kirkland ibuprofen & benadryl too.
Their prescription prices are the cheapest anywhere but I don't think you need a membership for prescriptions.
The muffins in the bakery are my kids favorites! They are HUGE muffins!
The roasted garlic artisan bread is YUMMY!
The rotisserie chickens are delicious (we're having one for dinner tonight)
I could go on & on about how much I love Costco! :)

I usually keep an eye out for bigger ticket items I regularly buy. For example I used to buy my outdoor volleyball there every year because the price differential was enough to pay for the membership. Then anything else I bought was a fabulous deal. I bought a steamer there for $99...it saved me a tremendous amount on drycleaning. It's good for party stocking and varying your menu too.

I always forget to ask, Can you use manufacter's coupons at Costco???
No, you cannot. But Costco does come out with a coupon book twice a year that has fabulous deals. And they often are giving you flyers in the store for coupons for the next week; for instance we went on Friday, and they gave us coupons for this coming week- things like $2 off a bag of summer flower bulbs, $2 off Ziploc bags, and I don't remember what else, but there were 12-14 coupons.

I haven't belonged to Costco in about 5 years-sounds like I need to go back!! ::yes:: I stopped going because I couldn't stand the crowds, but since I am now a SAHM {work 2 days a week outside the home}, I think I'll check it our on a weekday... :scratchin

Auto tires are a great deal. They actually include road hazard. They'll fix your flat for free, if the tire can't be repaired they'll give you a pro-rata credit (based on tread life) toward the replacement tire. They'll rotate and re balance for free.

Optical is a great deal, the price for contact lenses is less than any of the mail order vendors. Free refills on the eye glass cleaner. The eye glasses are a great deal when you take into account the quality of the product.

Make sure to get a quote for car and home insurance. You can usally pick up a brouchure in front of the cash registers or you can pick up their Connection Magazine. We ended up saving over $600 a year by switching to their insurance. My neighbor saved more than that.

Sometimes they run mail in rebates on some of the new realease movies the first week they are out. So keep your eyes open.

Clothes are a great deal. My husband loves the kirkland brand jeans.

Some things are a great deal other are not. If you are unsure price it out at the grocery store first and take in to account if you know what it will be if it on sale at the store then compare at Costco.

DH eats Power Bars for breakfast & they're alot cheaper. Also, medicines like PediaCare, Children's Tyl. or Motrin. Also, if you use it Zantac is much cheaper. I buy the big packs of Bounty paper towels. Milk, I buy 2 at a time. Kirkland brand laundry detergent. I can't even think of it all, I call it the "$100 store" I NEVER get out under $100.

Flowers and Cake.. ok I am partial to the flowers since I am the flower vendor fro my local store but its oly $12.99 for 2 dozen.

love, love, costco

I buy almost everything there-milk, OJ, bread, muffins, eggs, chk nuggets, huge chk breasts, awesome steaks, soda, juice, coffee, nuts, cereal, dog food, cups, plates, laundry detergent, cheese,Kirkland ibuprofen, clothes, gas... the list goes on and on...

the cakes are awesome I agree!

Oh, boy. One of my favorite topics: deals.

Love all the Costco Breads and Bakery items - delicious and well priced.
Excellent Garden Furniture!
Love to buy 4 lbs. of Romano Cheese for $12.49 (local store wants $9.49/lb).
Two dozen roses for $12.99!
DVD's
Christmas Trees
Planted Flowers
Meats
Appetizers (Fresh Mozzerella, Bruechetta, Salsa, Stuffed Peppers in oil)
Fresh Veggies
Veggie Platters
