my mom bought one of the original dvc memberships for okw 15 years ago. she stopped going due to failing health and was just giving all the points to my dh myself and our 3 kids. she recently decided just to go ahead and put it in my name because we used it so much and were disney freaks.

unfortunately about 2 weeks into the paperwork she passed away so now everything will take so much longer and be a big mess.

i couldnt imagine anything that would mean anything more to my family as her last gift. we have 35 years left on it so we can go and my kids can go and their kids can go. it will truly be an heirloom.

i plan on purchasing more points later on and having my kids add on and renewing it so it can just keep getting passed down.

i couldnt be happier to be a part of this family. and am truly thankful to my best friend my mom for giving it to me.

I'm sorry for your loss... but happy that you will fulfill your mom's wishes... I'm sure she will be with you in spirit everytime you visit the world!
It's re-assuring to me, that we can pass our membership on to our daughter someday.

God's comfort and blessings to you and your family on your loss. What a fantastic legacy to your mother for your family to be able to continue using her DVC membership! Each time you go to WDW, you will have a reminder of her love for you in this gift. My prayers and condolences to you and yours.

So sorry for your loss, but your mother knew the legacy whe was leaving you. Enjoy her "gift" and think of her everytime you plan and take a Disney trip!

I echo Diane's sentiments. Know that your mom will be smiling down at you with every trip you take.

A big selling point for us when buying into DVC was the ability to pass it on to DD. DD has intellectual disabilities and thus will most likely always be under someone else's care. I wanted to make sure that (God forbid) anything happen to DW or myself that her caretaker will still be able to take her to WDW every year.

I'm sorry for your loss...but at least every time you go there you will think happy thoughts of your mom! :goodvibes

Be sure to aquaint yourself fully on how DVC works. As a new owner who was gifted your points you may not have done all the homework that many of us have done before we purchased. DVC has various rules and deadlines that could cause you to lose points if you miss them. I am sorry about your loss, welcome home from your new DVC neighbors.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you & your family will enjoy what your mother left for you. :earsboy:

My sympathy to you and your family. May you enjoy the gift that she left you for many, many years and always remember the happy memories that she helped create.

This gift will be a special memory for you and create special memories in the future. My sympathies to you and your family.

My sympathies to you and your family on the loss of your mother. I am sure she will be smiling down on all of you especially on those magical vacations!

thank you for all your kind words. i am quickly learning all about the rules. i have been on this site reading and learning. i appreciate the cautious post. dh and i are so excited to be a part of this world we are so very thankful to my mom there really is no better gift to give. i will make sure we keep buying points and adding on.

do you think theyll keep the program going once the originals expire in 2050whatever year it is? has there been any word on that? i have okw so we will have to renew earlier.

Sorry for your loss. Do you know that your cost basis will the cost of points on the date she passed?

It will be a source of joy when you use these points. My dad passed and left us funds and we bought 6 years ago and every time my family uses our points its in memory of my dad. I'm sure my children will do the same.
