and as for Universal being like 6 Flags- way wrong!! there 3-d shows are alot better then MGM's 3-D.

My goodness, dzneelvr made a nice comment and even gave some options for your thrill ride family to enjoy and still got slammed.

:(

I've been to WDW about 17 times, DL 5 times and a lot of places in between, and there is still nothing like Disney for me and my family. And the comment somebody made about walking up main street. Way to true. I am sorry you didn't enjoy your last visit, go enjoy the fast lane at Universal, that is just what I am trying to escape from. I love the Disney Magic!

geesh-- due to the fact that I am getting harrassing emails I need to leave these boards- wow talk about a group of nasty people just because I do not agree with your OPs on Disney- and being I have been to Disney alot already- wow.

please stop emailing me-- this is childish!!

Sorry you did not enjoy your trip as much as you though you would. Hopefully you will enjoy your next vacation more, whatever you decide to do.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your trip - been there 25+ times and still not bored and each year I find something new - it may not be a new attraction - but something small I did not notice before

Cannot comment on the water parks - haven't been there yet -- enjoy the pools at the hotel after returning from the parks as I get sun poison.

That said hope you enjoy Universal as I will enjoy one less family ahead of me in line.

There are many places that I have gone to on vacation and have been a little dissapointed. Maybe they didn't live up to my expectations or I just expected something different.
There have also been places that I have visited and then when going again just didn't enjoy it as much. I think that is just life and that eveyone is different.

I'm sorry that the OP feels like people are coming down on them but I guess you have to expect that if you come to a place where people come to talk about their love for WDW and you state a bunch of harsh comments, you MIGHT just not get a huggy mushy welcome. I will say though that people seemed to be quite polite and tried to be understanding. It did however look like the OP was trying to pick a little bit of a fight.

Just some observations.......
Now .... I hope all have a great day!!!! ( no matter where you like to vacation !!!:wave2: )

That's so funny (not that you had a disappointing time at WDW), because we thought the same thing about Universal when we went about 4 yrs ago. Although I must say Spiderman is my all time favorite ride ever. We bought the 2 day pass and I gave a co-worker the 2nd day because we wouldn't go back. Disney isn't for everyone, my youngest DD and ex-husband hate going to WDW but my oldest DD and I can't get enough. At least you won't have other family member nagging you to go back:D

Nothing is for everyone. We all have different ideas of what we expect or want out of anything.

FYI, I am 56 years old and I can honestly say I have never been bored a minute in my life. I enjoy the tiny details in life and search them out. Am always curious about things also.

Is just as well that DW is not for everyone because it would be even more crowded. (smile)

Am sorry that you are getting flack for speaking your mind though.

Funny...I have always said,

"I can't imagine anyone not loving WDW.."

After reading the post, I can only draw one conclusion.

You, my friend, are UN-AMERICAN...LOL:teeth:

BTW we were given free tickets to universal, free parking and free food while at the park last summer and it was still not worth it.

I ended up giving 4 free one day tickets to IOA to a family in line as one day at universal was one day to many for us.

To the OP: If someone is sending you harrassing e-mails, then you should report them to the moderators.

Anyway, I love WDW!

Boring? Never

Expensive? Always

Pixie Dust? Constantly

IMHO, Universal is thrill ride overkill. I love the joy in my DD's eyes when she sees Mickey! You can't get that anywhere else.

That was my 1000th post!!!!

Thank you, thank you

Now now. The OP is right--for her. Some can do Disney every year and be enchanted every time. Others need to step back a couple years and give ourselves time to forget a little.

She isn't implying--except for the BB comment--which I can't address--my son's 3 1/2--too young, so I wasn't there--that Disney has lost it's magic or even saying she'll never return.

She's not swearing undying allegiance to Universal. She's just saying that Disney wasn't a good trip for her and she enjoyed her day at Universal more this time around. I can't speak to that either--I was at Universal too many years ago--no clue what it's like now).

Also, I noticed OP posted 10-1 and indicated she had just gotten back. September was not a great time to go this year. Even Disney is showing damage and weariness from the hurricane season--rides closed, the landscape damaged--the 1970's sign in front of our resort fell down, damaging the front of our hotel (the Pop Century, which I will say was the best of the Disney resorts I've stayed at). October or November--the usual timeframe for our visits--might have been better this year.

So bear with those of us who might be a little pixie dust deficient. We're not turning in our mouse ears, or saying we won't return (I plan on seeing Disney Land next year (before or after the baby), and returning to the world in a few more years. We're just expressing our feelings that this last trip may not have been our best.

anita36, I guess you and your family are just part of the ever-growing trend to play hard and play fast. To bad you found slowing down to enjoy Disney was just too boring. I can't imagine that ever happening to me.

I personally find Universal too busy and quite the opposite of your review when it comes to their versions of castmembers. None of the rides are geared for larger people. I went one time on free tickets and felt like I got exactly what I paid for. My children may someday change my mind about going back but that will take some doing.

Perhaps on future vacations you should seek out more of the thrill ride parks such as Cedar Point or Paramount's Carowinds. They would have plenty of thrill rides to keep you and your children interested and excited.

I intend for my DW, my DD, and our unborn child to grow up Disney and learn how to slow down and enjoy a vacation. We are members of DVC and as long as I am able I intend to go to Disney in some sort or fashion EVERY year.

Everyone is different and not all the people in my family feel the same way about Disney as I do. Two of my DS's love thrill rides, one DS likes to work out in the exercise rooms, my DD likes to be at Epcot the most and I just love being in any park and going on the less daring rides. My DH enjoys a vacation and goes with the flow, but is waiting for us to relax a little more at the pools or waterparks a little more. We are DVC owners. My two DS's would like to go to US/IOA sometime in the future because of their love of thrill rides, but I haven't made any plans for that, yet.
I have no desire.

I try to plan different things for our Disney trips, such as trying a new restaurant, miniature golf, renting boats, making sure we catch more entertainment in Epcot World Showcase (acrobats, candy maker, picking oysters with pearls, etc. etc.) and bikes and (for the daring ones in my family) parasailing, Aqua Seas tour in Epcot, and fishing excursions have made each trip a little different. I wish more of my kids were old enough for the Segway tour and, maybe one day, we'll do one of the other wonderful sounding tours Disney offers.

Disney has so much to do on a vacation, but I guess if you are just looking for thrill rides it may fall short. Lucky for me that it's not mostly that or there wouldn't be anything for me to enjoy!

;)

That was a funny comment, Detective Mickey! I am someone who likes things the same and there are some attractions that aren't around anymore and I miss them. I enjoy a lot of the new ones of course, just too bad they have to be at the expense of the old.

Anyway, I don't think any of my family would find our trips boring--it just takes good planning if you don't want to wait in long lines or see the "same old" things.

I wish less people liked Disney so it wouldn't be as crowded when I go!

:earsgirl:

anita 36, i was just joking. nothing intented. ive been to both places this year, each one has different things to offer, and i enjoyed both places. i loved the royal pacific resort and fotl access. i also like the beau rivage in biloxi and the occasional grown up trips

there is still something about disney, it seems to immerse one in an imaginary atmosphere and for that short time, it seems that you can be innocent again. but hey what do i know?

BUT, September just wasn't the time to go this year. Anita--give it a couple years, go back.

September was hot, humid and the landscape was just depressing. There seemed to be minor delays or breakdowns on every ride--my favorite was on the CoP--

"ladies and gentlemen, we are experiencing technical difficulties. Please remain seated and the ride will start up in a couple of minutes. Please do not open the auditorium doors or that will stop the ride for a couple of hours."

MickeyMom also has a good point. If you're doing the same stuff over and over, year after year, it can get boring. We hit only a couple old "favorites" this year.

"Slowing down to enjoy disney"? Well, I guess it depends on when you go, but Disney's not a slow down vacation--too much to do and see.

Anita.....don't leave the boards.....it's okay to voice your opinion !!! ::yes::

Well, IMHO I think Disney should spend more money on adding to the parks instead of building new resorts. I love Disney, don't get me wrong, but over the years I have always thought that they concentrated way too much on their hotels. We would return way more often if they were keeping their theme parks up to speed. Universal has a great edge on that...

I agree with Janeski! We stayed at POR from 10/5 - 10/11. First trip in four years. Loved the resort, but Disney is making some business decisions that I feel have a negative impact on the Parks. They are not spending the money on upkeep and upgrading their attractions. We went on Star Tours & didn't enjoy it because the moving effects were out of sync with the movie. Went on HISTA & the effects in our section weren't working. Plus Universe of Energy was down completely the day we were at Epcot. Went on BTMRR twice, first car was not working well & ride wasn't smooth - 2nd trip in different car was much better.

But I think my main objection with Disney is this "open seasonally" policy. We still paid full admission price to the parks, and yet some of our favorite attractions were closed - body wars, cranium command, timekeeper. Add to that having the normal amount of rides down for maintenance or changing (small world, changing Extraterrorestrial (?) to Stitch, etc.) and that's a lot of rides not available!! Plus, there aren't as many live shows and/or entertainers around the parks anymore.

We went to Universal & only two minor rides out of both parks were not running.

At any rate, I love Disney, but it's hard to love attractions that are closed or not working right. I think we're going to see them getting some serious competition from Universal, as younger people grow up getting to experience both. Remember, a lot of us love Disney partly because of the nostalgia, but you have to attract some of the teens & young adults, too, or they aren't likely to come back to Disney when they are older and have families.

I hope Disney gets the message & does more upkeep & upgrading. Maybe the new CEO....?
