Hi all,
Just thought I'd post a few observations I made while traveling with small kids this past week (not to Disney, but from the West Coast to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard). I've read so many posts on strollers and airplane rides, I thought I'd add my 2 cents when it's fresh in my mind.
On the Cape and Islands, I think 90% of the strollers I saw were either Macs or Combis. A few Bugaboo Frogs. It just seemed like those strollers were everywhere, and I noticed because I had just researched them myself and settled on a Combi Cosmo, which worked great from my 18-month-old. It was a dream to fold and unfold in the airports. Several Mac owners commented on how quickly I could fold up the Combi. On the other hand, I would retort that their Macs did seem a bit higher from the ground and steadier. I didn't have any complaints about pushing the Combi though. I could easily push it and turn it while holding luggage in the other hand.
On the planes, I had headphones for each child with the DVD player, but I did notice that literally every passenger around us also had some sort of headphones on as well. So I don't think DVD player noise is as big an issue as some have made it out to be on some threads I had read. We used the headphones, but with the engine noise and the other headphones, I don't think it would have been heard if we hadn't. My 7 and 5 year olds behaved like a dream on the planes, and while my toddler did his best, he had a few moments. One problem was kicking the seat in front of him if the passenger in front put his seat back. DS's legs were just the right length. Nothing I could do. He wasn't purposely kicking...it's just where his feet were. We found that sheets of stickers entertained him when nothing else would...so thanks to whoever gave me that tip. Take sheets of stickers and let your toddler stick them everywhere...they come right off the plastic surfaces.
We flew United, and I have nothing nice to say about them.
I don't have time to go into how much trouble we have flying United (we don't have any other choices since we fly out of a very small airport). But all in all, pretty easy traveling with the little ones. Books, DVDs, ColorWonder paper sets, and card games entertained the older kids.
Anyway, just thought I'd share a few experiences travel-wise, for those of us flying long distances this summer!
