Just got back from "The Happening"...

It was violent for violent's sake. The thing about M. Night's movies was that he DIDN'T have to show the blood and guts to scare that part of your brain that is terrified by the very THOUGHT of something bad. But with this movie... he showed...EVERYTHING...and it was completely unnecessary.

I haven't seen the movie yet. I was going to but then I heard the bad reviews and I didn't go because I didn't want to spend money on a movie that sucked. I agree with JCandKT. What I really loved about Signs was that he didn't really show anything gory, it was all about suspense and thrills. With camera angles, reactions and music he could create a very tense scene. I was so hoping that the Happening would be good. I know he must have another good movie somewhere in that brain of his...

DS and DD went with their friends last night. DS is a M. Night fan, but he came home saying how stupid and dumb the movie was.

EXACTLY. How he framed shots...camera angles (especially in The Village!)...those were his bread & butter. A piece of red fabric off of the "monster's" robe in the Village scared you half to death because he mastered the art of suspense.

With the Happening - he left nothing to the imagination.

The premise of the movie - all in all - is a scary subject! He could have really monopolized and exploited the sheer terror of "where do you run to" but he fell flat...

In my opinion, he was too excited about showing someone being eaten by a lawn mower --- and forgot to write a kick-butt script/storyline.

But that's just my opinion...who am I?! :hyper:
