My dad gave me a D60 last night as a surprise!! Great wonderful!! My DH played around with it last night when I was cooking dinner. Needless to say and error came on lcd with !Push shutter half way down. Did that and the message would not go away. After changing sd cards and taking the battery out nothing happened. I pushed the shutter down several times in a row and nothing. I turned it off and on and nothing. I wanted to kill him. After a while and pushing the shutter down and repeatly I got the message off. Why did it happened and did he hurt my new baby? Will I have this message agian? and How do I get rid of it? after I got rid of the message I was able to take pics.

What was the error message that you got?

First, take a breath. Second, it in NOT your DHs fault. If anything you should be thanking him for possibly discovering that your camera could be a lemon. Third, take it straight back to the store where it came from for an exchange. A brand new camera should not be giving error messages.

Did you try calling the Nikon Support line?

Digital Imaging Technical Support
24 hours a day 7 days a week
1-800-Nikon-UX or 1-800-645-6689

You may also want to check the lens. Turn off the camera, remove, reattach the lens, and then turn the camera back on.

I agree with the advice to take it back to the store and exchange it. If you want to find more people who may have your camera and may have experienced the same problem, there's a great board for D60/80/90 owners on nikonians.com.

The message said "!ERROR, Press shutter release button again."
I think I might be going to best buy tonight to exchange it. I don't want any problems later down the road. I don't know it they will give me any probs b/c the camera seems to be working fine now.

I wouldn't both with Nikon service or anything like that. Its just a few days old. Take it back and get another copy. Don't take any chances. I agree with ukcatfan, a brand new camera body should not be giving error messages. Replace it and forget it ever happened.

BTW, welcome to the wonderful world of Nikonians! Watch out for NAS, its nasty and there is no known cure. Once you get it, it NEVER goes away! :)

Yes, this appears to be a problem that some have encountered with the D40/D40x/D60 (and I found one reference to it happening on an older D1x). Don't try to make do -- even if the problem appears to go away, it seems to often recur on the bodies that exhibit it. Save yourself a lot of possible wailing and gnashing of teeth and get it replaced ASAP.

I returned it to Best Buy tonight. The sad new is they were OUT of stock!! Now I have to wait for a week before they can get me one. So, now I sit here a look at all your wonderful photo and dream.
Thanks everyone for all your kind advise!
