Must be the same people who told us we should take a 3 night cruise as our first ever cruise (we were booked on a 15 nighter).

Haha, I'm with you - our first cruise is this coming September and I'm already thinking we'll be booking a placeholder for a cruise in August 2016 =0 I've had severa people tell me the same as you "what if you don't like it, you might get seasick, you might hate it". Weirdos ;-)

I'm playing it safe with my first one being 4 nights, but every fiber of my being wants to do a long, slow TA.

We are doing the 6 nights out of galveston..........next stop Alaska! That is so on my bucket list!!!

We got home a week ago from a western 5night and I'm kicking myself for not booking onboard! Already have a quote on a sept 2016 eastern Carib and just waiting not so patiently to see if I get a lucky discount email;). You will absolutely LOVE it!!!!!!!

I took my daughter and son-in-law and family a week ago. It was his first and I don't think he cared for it. But, he is weird. LOL. He loved last year at WDW when I had every moment of every day planned out for everyone.

Our very first cruise was horrible. We were hammered with bad weather, missed every single port, came back to port half a day late and I was sea sick the entire time (4 days). Our 2nd cruise...15 days! Haha. I guess its just a matter of what you are willing to tolerate. Oh, and there was an outbreak of norovirus.

In his defense, cruising isn't for everyone. I know we love it here, but... As someone I once knew used to say "That's why God made chocolate and vanilla." :)

Our first one is also 4 nights, we thought it would be a good length to try it out, but yes, I really want to book one to Alaska......!

I'll bite. You wouldn't love it because your servers bring you practically anything you want, the room attendant cleans up after you, and you get to be someplace other than at home posting on these boards.

yeah, those are the down points for me :rotfl2:

How often has the norovirus struck Disney? Now that is one thing I am afraid of. Oh and being seasick!

I doubt that there's a cruise ship (or any other location in the world) that hasn't had at least one case of noro. I saw a TV show about national park state troopers who were trying to find a hiker lost on a mountain who was sick. After they found him, and got him to a hospital, they found he had noro (out there in the woods, all by himself). Cruise ships get a bad rep as "the" place where noro runs rampant. It's just more obvious in a controlled environment when people are sick. Onboard, you have no place to go. Get noro at WDW, it's a pretty big place and it'll probably go unnoticed, for the most part.

Not sure about DCL. We were on HAL when we missed all our ports, spent the whole time sea sick and had the norovirus outbreak. Thankfully, we avoided it as we were traveling with one of two children on the entire ship...and she was 20 months old at the time. They handled the whole thing very well though, so I had no complaints in that regard.

I'd book the second one while on board so you can get the discounts, etc. You'll have 24 months to cruise so maybe Alaska 2017?

I've a friend who got norovirus just being at home on a normal day (she has no idea where or how she got it). I've been on 8 cruises and never had a hint of it. Just make sure you use the wipes before you go for food and wash your hands properly and frequently. Given the number of people who get norovirus compared to the number of people who cruise - you should be fine. Can't comment on the seasickness as I've never had an issue.

Having looked at the stats, when people worrying about Noro on cruises I think they're doing that human thing of not evaluating risk properly (going on emotion not data). Noro on cruises gets overblown by the media because cruise ships are required to report to the CDC. Land based incidents don't end up in that database, the way I understand it. Even still, I'd done some research about best practices (hand washing, mostly, and a few sanitizers that work against Noro) ... And then I found that page I linked above where apparently DCL hasn't had a big enough "outbreak" to report it in 15 years anyway.

So, yeah, I'm spending more time worrying about seasickness. :)
