Thank you so much to all of you who commented (and to the silent readers - much love too

). I would have posted sooner but I am having problems with Photobucket...grrr. Think it is all good now!
So, our next adventure was an early morning at Hollywood Studios. Typically, we snack on granola bars for breakfast but I was in the mood for something more filling and managed to convince John to get real food.
We picked up a couple breakfast sandwiches at Fairfax Fair (spelling? Not really my strong suit.) Anyhoo...service was pretty slow, which was weird because there were only about three people in line. Total. Not just my line. That's Disney on a weekday in January for you.
They didn't have prices posted (at least, that I could see) and these babies were surprisingly expensive. John's was a regular sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit and was $6. I don't eat eggs (and if I did like eggs, I have a hard time believing that little square yellow clump are EGGs) so they just gave me double sausage (I didn't ask, but I was super excited to see this!!). They charged me a dollar less. I don't know if that would always be the case, because they actually marked it on the receipt as an egg biscuit without meat.
They were really delicious and filling, but it was hard to believe the price tag when the animal kingdom breakfast we had was also delicious and filling for a third of the price. Oh well, more granola bars next time!
Actually, we plan on doing the deluxe dining plan for our honeymoon so I may be able to squeeze in a few real, sit-down breakfasts. This will be a challenge as my fiance is not a huge breakfast fan. Well, he should learn soon that marriage is about compromise...especially when I want something.
We also got a diet coke (can you say "breakfast of champions?!").
Total:
Egg and meat biscuit - 6
Double meat biscuit - 5
Soda - 2.50
Total, with tax - 14
Ratings - John honestly felt it wasn't memorable enough to have a rating. I however gave it a 7. Much better than the breakfast we had had earlier in the trip (not worth a post or a picture) at the Pop Century (although on our last trip, we had great breakfasts at All Star Movies...maybe Pop was having an off-week?). What's not to love about meat, cheese, and carbs?
Kind of funny side story - When we had purchased breakfast earlier that week at the Pop, we each paid separately for our meals. We had agreed to try to split the food costs as much as possible (he had paid for the whole trip and I was just trying to contribute a bit - we aren't married yet!!). Afterwards, I said, "Why did the cashier look at me funny?" She had given me a weird, almost nasty look. And John said, "You didn't realize why? We're wearing our engagement buttons and we paid separately!" So I guess it did look weird, but to each their own.
Anyway, after a few hours at Hollywood Studios, we headed to our old standby - Epcot. We actually had a reservation for the Captain's Grille, but as we ate sushi in Japan the day before, we realized we just wanted another lunch around the world. So we ended up at one of my absolute favorite places in all of Disney - the Tangierine Cafe!
Backstory: I have always wanted to travel to Morocco so when I found out that Disney had Morocco as an Epcot country for our first trip last year, I was so excited! I couldn't wait to eat at Marrakesh! We waited a bit for a table, but as we waited, we flipped through a book of food pictures that were on the menu. We were nervous right away. It didn't look like any Moroccan food I had tried before! So we decided to see what the menu looked like. We were seated in the restaurant and I immediately regretted the decision. I hated how close the tables were, the damp feeling of the place, and the menu looked horrible. Anything we actually considered eating was far too expensive! So when the waitress came over, I faked being sick and we left!
We ducked into Tangierine Cafe and I was in love!!! The food is sooo good. And exactly what I like. I guess I like Moroccan street food more than the fancy schmancy stuff.
This year I got exactly what I got that first time.
This is the lamb and chicken shwarma plate. I had considered saving two bucks and just picking one, but I was so glad I didn't decide to cheap out. Both meats are heavenly...so soft and tearable. I'm going to be honest. I have no idea HOW I'm supposed to eat this. What I did was tear off some pita, slather it with their delicious hummus, add on some chicken or lamb (or both!), and topped it off with tabouleh. Like a Moroccan open-faced sandwich...too good for words! I devoured everything on this plate. To be honest, I was full, but my mouth wanted much more!!!
John's plate:
He got the lamb, chicken, and falafel sliders, which were good but not as good as my meal! I think he secretly liked mine more too.
Of course, as usual, we split a diet coke.
Total:
Chicken and lamb schwarma platter - 14
Sliders - 15
Diet Coke - 2
With tax - 34
Ratings - Worth every last penny. Not sure if I can work this into my Disneymoon plans and so distraught about it! That's how good this food is - I use the word "distraught" when I contemplate maybe not being able to have it a year and a half from now. I give this place (and my meal) a 9.5 because I reserve the 10s for sit-down places.
John gives this an 8.5. Maybe it would be higher if he got the chicken and lamb schwarma platter. Just maybe.
We walked around the world for a bit, stopped in the obligatory gift shop, probably headed back to the Cool Zone to snag some delicious foreign soda (Costa Rica, baby!), and decided we could use a snack as we didn't have a big meal planned that night. (I can't wait to see how much we'll eat on the deluxe dining plan!)
We tried the quick service place in Mexico. Just as I love Moroccan, John loves Mexican. (Who am I kidding? I love it too!) He was the reason we went to San Angel Inn earlier in the trip. We figured we could grab some tacos and tortilla chips and tide ourselves over until the Wishes dessert party later that night.
Ugh. Worst meal decision of the trip. I'm hoping we got a bad day or something, but the food was horrendous.
Looks so innocent, doesn't it? You would have no idea how weird the meal was. Weird is the best way I can describe it, as I know no words that fit. Maybe this is what dog food tastes like. Seriously low-quality meat. I munched on the chips, which were pretty good. The chips were the only saving grace, which isn't saying much because they were like any store bought bag of tortilla chips.
Total:
Tacos de carne - 12
Diet Coke - 2.50
Total, with tax - 15.50
Ratings - We both generously gave this snack a 2. Again, only due to the chips. Truly terrible. I may one day consider eating in Mexico (I have to say that La Hacienda de San Angel has caught my eye) but it would take a while for me to overcome those tacos.
Overall, a good food day with some memorable (good and bad!) moments.
