Just Engaged and Eating in Disney! Review with pics :)

I am really enjoying your reviews! Your personality & wit shine through!! Your PhotoPass pics are great too! Congrats on your engagement. My DH & I will celebrate our 20th anniversary this summer & it has absolutely flown by. I'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews!

I'm glad you were able to get your pictures in the parks! I was definitely annoying DBF with the photopass shots...but I love them!

That's hilarious about the peanut sauce...boys are too funny. One time me and DBF were out to breakfast, and he was convinced that apple butter didn't have cinnamon (which I'm allergic to) in it. Even smelled and tasted it. :headache:

I stopped trusting him as my sole taste-tester after that ;)

OMG, I adore the photopass. We will be using one of our pics on our engagement party invites so it's perfect. And my fella has never ever been into pictures. In fact, at our senior prom I said to him, "Can you look like you are happy to be with me in these pictures?" He just never smiled.

But at Disney, he totally changed. Smiles and attempting to pose and everything! I was a happy girl. Def will do the photopass again :)

I really shouldn't have trusted him about that sauce, that was my fault. One time we were getting ice cream that he swore had chocolate balls in it. I was very excited. We scooped it and I distinctly smelled peanut butter. Turns out the balls were chocolate - but filled with pb. I was super pissed b/c he says to me, "Just eat around it." Uh, no.

We simply can't trust our men.

I am enjoying your reviews! WCC looks yummy but how much of a chore is it to get over there from POP? We book in a few weeks and with a ds on the top of the "child" menu I am looking at places a little differently and that would be right up his alley.

Thanks! I think WCC is great for kids! The food is so good and they even have an all-you-can-drink milkshake which we have never tried, but would be a great deal to share as a family, in my opinion.

It's kind of a hassle to get to any other resort from the POP, but I would take the hassle every time for WCC. We went to Magic Kingdom before hand and if we hadn't been so cold (January), we would have taken the boat from MK to the Wilderness Lodge. Otherwise, we just hopped on a bus from MK and got there in about 5-10 minutes.

Thank you so much! I only found these boards a few weeks before my trip to Dis, and I couldn't wait to do my own review b/c I enjoyed all the ones I read. Congrats on 20 years - what an accomplishment! I see from your banner that you will be back at Dis soon -- that's amazing! Hope you have some good food planned!

Great reviews. We did the same as you did at San Angel Inn-we did not get dessert. Instead DH and I had dessert in Norway! I think my favorite is still the Schoolbread but ... we have tasted a few of the other treats too! YUM!

You're a very cute couple and I am enjoying your reviews -- Congratulations and Best Wishes on your engagement! :thumbsup2

First, thanks to everyone for your kind words!
Second, sorry I've been away. I'm a student teacher, almost graduating from college, and my students (9th and 10th graders) have taken up all of my time! :goodvibes

Now, onto the food!

We headed to Animal Kingdom bright and early and were starving by the time we got there. Because we had a pretty early lunch scheduled for Rainforest Cafe, we just wanted to get something small to eat. We also wanted to see The Festival of the Lion King so we headed in that direction. Lo and behold, we found somewhere to eat right next to the Festival. The place was empty, the food was good, the decor was fun, and the price was right!

We both decided to get biscuits and gravy and shared a soda:

We loved these. They were yummy and we pretty much every last drop of gravy. Just enough to eat to be pleasantly full.

We watched the Festival and were amazed. The singing is amazing, the dancing and acrobatics are really entertaining. The show flew by. I'd rather see this than Nemo, although I enjoyed Nemo last year.

Then we met Jiminy Cricket:

After riding a bunch of rides and thoroughly enjoying ourselves, we grabbed onion rings to share from Flame Tree BBQ b/c I'd read so many good things about them on the boards. Unfortunately, we were really disappointed. They were greasy and not very good at all. I hope it was just an off day. John also wanted to get tea from the little cart in Asia. We had high hopes, but I learned that I don't enjoy tea without sugar. :(

After a bit of shopping, we headed to the front of the park to go to Rainforest Cafe. I am a member so I either get a free Chef's appetizer or 10% off of the bill. We knew we'd be full from the meal so we chose to go with a few bucks off.

We checked in and waited only a few minutes to be called. In the meantime, we played around in the store and bought a couple souveniers.

We could have sat automaticalled at the bar. They have the cutest chairs (kids can sit there!):

January232011522.jpg

But I love the atmosphere and the fun of sitting inside the restaurant so we decided we would try to go to the bar on our next trip.

We had been to a Rainforest Cafe in Atlanic City, NJ the year before our trip and I had gotten the coconut shrimp along with steak and ribs. The steak and ribs were good, but ultimately forgettable. But that shrimp stayed with me. I typically do not like coconut, but these shrimp were super crunchy with just a hint of sweetness. I love them!

Caribbean Coconut Shrimp:

The shrimp were amazing and I love the presentation. The mashed potatoes were really good. If I remember correct, I think my meal was supposed to come with rice but I asked them to substitute the potatoes and there was no problem. The veggies were very delicious too.

John's came with coconut shrimp, fish, and scallops, all of which he loved. (The scallops strangely look like marshmellows in this picture but not in real life!):

I'm not a huge seafood person (except for shrimp) but I enjoyed the scallops as well.

Overall, we paid:

For Breakfast:

The receipt I took a pic of is blurry so these are estimates
Soda - 2.50
Biscuits and Gravy, for both - 8
Tax - 1
Total - 11.50

This was a great quick meal and I would go again. We both rated it a 6 b/c it was simple.

Snacks:

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the receipts (what was I doing that day?) but the onion rings ran about $3-4 and the tea was about the same. John rated the tea a 1, but I had to give it a 0 (I threw most of it away, ssssh!). I rate the onion rings a 3, but John only gave them a 2. I would give them another chance!

Rainforest Cafe:

Coconut shrimp - 20
Seafood Platter - 29
Tax - 3
Total, before tip - 52
Total, with the discount - 47

We both rated this meal a 9. We loved the food, the presentation was pretty, and the atmosphere is fun and not too dark. Service was really good too. Normally, I wouldn't go to a restaurant on vacation that I could go to at home but I made an exception in this case b/c 1. I had the discount 2. There wasn't anywhere else in Animal Kingdom we were dying to try and 3. I felt the theme was perfect for the park.

Looks like you had a great meal at the Rainforest Cafe! Discounts always help to make that restaurant decision, don't they? :rotfl:

Your ring is gorgeous! How cool you were able to get character pictures with it featured!

ALSO those animal bar chairs at the Rainforest Cafe are amazing. If only they fit into my everyday life more seamlessly...:rotfl:

Thanks! It was so fun getting all the pictures. The characters and photographers were really into highlighting the ring and the engagement!
I love Rainforest. Next trip, I think I want to try Yak and Yeti, mostly because there is a Rainforest not too far from home.
Tell me about it, with the chairs! I may just get a drink at the bar next trip to sit on one of them...too cute.

Subscribing - loving you reviews! And congrats on the engagement!!

I want to try a cloudhorn - YUM!! :lovestruc

I want to try a cloudhorn - YUM!! :lovestruc

Thanks! I saw a picture of the cloud horn on the boards right before I left on the trip and knew I had to try it! The only thing better is the Napoleon from France ;)

Today was an Epcot day. It's John's favorite park b/c of the World Showcase. We tried to get as many things as we could without completely stuffing ourselves silly.

First, I had seen some of the drink on these boards and was dying to try the Citron Slushie from the France Pavilion:

January232011533.jpg

I felt very fancy:

January232011534.jpg

We strolled around the WS, and I even got a Henna tattoo in Morocco. Before long, we wanted to get lunch. Earlier in the week, we had shared a lunch of sushi from the Yakitori House and we couldn't stop thinking about it. So we decided to get some more :goodvibes

Before going there, we hit the French pavilion for another drink! This time, we both got the French Kiss - sparkling wine with pomegranite liquer. So good! I had another before we left Disney. Much better in my opinion than the slushie. For about the same price, there seemed to be more alcohol and overall deliciousness.

January232011537.jpg

Only in Disney can you drink a French drink, eat sushi from Japan, and get a Henna tattoo!

January232011538.jpg

I got the California rolls and John got the spicy tuna rolls with udon noodles:

January232011539.jpg

January232011540.jpg

The California rolls were delicious. The noodles were fat and, according to John, everything was really good and filling.

We did some shopping, watched the exceedingly-too-long American Adventure show, and returned to France to dream of buying expensive perfume (at least, I dreamed) and actually buy some dessert.

Not knowing when we would be back at Disney, I wanted to try as many desserts as possible. First, there was a cream puff, chocolate mousse, napoleon, and chocolate cake.

January232011548.jpg

I shocked John by getting so many desserts! We went outside and sat by the lake as we sampled each. The cream puff was disappointing. The puff was hard. It would probably be amazing in the morning, but it had likely been sitting out too long and had hardened. The cream was really good, but it was delicious when I mixed it with the mousse. That's quite the combination!!!!

The chocolate cake was really good (it's hard to mess up chocolate cake ;)) but the clear winner was the Napoleon. It was the best dessert by far we had in Disney and I wish I had one every time I think of it.

We managed to close the box and take it back to the Pop Century. We waited a couple hours and then went back to the desserts. The only one was actually finished was the Napoleon. We wanted to save the rest for breakfast, but then we forgot about them.

Overally, we paid:
Each drink was about $8.
The sushi was about $10 each.
The desserts were $14, which averages to $3.50 per dessert.

I would give the slushie a 6. It was good, but it got watery fast under the sun and it didn't seem like it had enough alcohol in it to justify the price. The French Kiss was a 9. Delicious and well worth the price tag.

The sushi was really good, but we both wished we had shared a platter again and kept snacking elsewhere around WS. We both rated it a 7.

John is not as big a dessert eater as I am so he rated the desserts an 8 while I gave them a 9. The cream puff distracted from the overall score and the mousse wasn't really special. The cake and the napoleon carried the day!!

Up next: Breakfast at Hollywood Studios and more World Showcase!

I really am loving this review and your pics - and how neat that you got a henna tattoo! Can't wait for more :)
